Charizard is not automatically available in every Pokémon game. The title, the specific Charizard form, and that game’s transfer rules determine whether you can catch or move it. In Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, the official materials document Gigantamax Charizard as a rare Max Raid Battle encounter.
For merchandise, Pokémon Center is the official online shop, while Pokémon Support points US and Canadian shoppers to Pokémon Center and an official retail locator. Licensing still needs to be checked item by item: packaging, seller identity, regional availability, and the applicable Nintendo or Pokémon authorization matter more than a marketplace listing’s wording.
What games is Charizard in?
There is no single, permanent “Charizard game list” that applies to every release. Pokémon availability changes by title, version, form, encounter method, and transfer support. A Charizard species entry, a special battle form such as Gigantamax Charizard, and a Charizard obtained in another game are separate compatibility questions.
What is confirmed for Sword and Shield
The official Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield site documents Gigantamax Charizard as a Fire/Flying Pokémon. Its ability is Blaze, its flames become dramatically larger when it Gigantamaxes, and its signature G-Max move is G-Max Wildfire. You can catch Gigantamax Pokémon by participating in Max Raid Battles, but the official site warns that these encounters are very rare.

That information establishes a specific route for a specific form: look for a Max Raid Battle that offers Gigantamax Charizard. It does not mean every Charizard encounter in every version uses Max Raid Battles, and it does not make Gigantamax Charizard interchangeable with an ordinary Charizard in another title.
How Pokémon HOME changes the answer
Pokémon HOME supports transfers among compatible Nintendo Switch games, but Pokémon’s guidance limits a move to a game in which that Pokémon appears. Compatibility is therefore checked at the destination game, not assumed from the fact that a Pokémon is stored in HOME.
Before moving a Charizard, confirm three things:
- The destination game includes Charizard.
- The particular form you are moving is supported there.
- The game’s transfer rules permit that move; a species may be present while a special form or move set is restricted.
If HOME will not allow the transfer, treat the message as a title-and-form compatibility issue rather than proof that the Pokémon is damaged. Keep the Charizard in the source game or HOME until you have checked the destination game’s current support information.
A reliable way to check a game
- Identify the exact game and version, not just the console family.
- Decide whether you mean a standard Charizard, a card or merchandise depiction, or Gigantamax Charizard.
- Read that game’s official Pokédex, encounter, or feature information for the form you want.
- If you plan to transfer, check Pokémon HOME’s compatibility guidance for the destination title.
- Confirm regional or version-specific encounter differences before buying downloadable content or arranging a trade.
This method avoids the most common error: seeing Charizard in one Pokémon product and assuming the same availability in another.

Why the Charizard form matters
Gigantamax Charizard is a battle form, not a universal substitute
Gigantamax Charizard keeps the Fire/Flying identity described by the Sword and Shield materials, but its enlarged flames and G-Max Wildfire are tied to the Gigantamax battle mechanic. A Charizard that can be used in an ordinary battle is not automatically eligible to Gigantamax, and a Gigantamax-capable Pokémon is not automatically transferable to every other game.
Use precise names when buying or trading
Use “Gigantamax Charizard” when discussing the Sword and Shield Max Raid form. Use “Charizard ex” for the Scarlet & Violet—151 trading-card products. Keeping those names separate prevents a buyer from receiving a card, plush, or ordinary in-game Charizard when they expected a particular form.
Where to buy official Charizard merchandise
Pokémon Center
Pokémon’s merchandise information describes Pokémon Center as the official online shop for Pokémon, including plush, clothing, Pokémon TCG cards, and more. It is the clearest first stop when you want merchandise sold through an official Pokémon channel rather than an unverified marketplace listing.
Catalog, stock, shipping eligibility, and product selection can vary by country and change over time. An item appearing in a search result is not proof that it is currently in stock or available for delivery to your address, so check the live product page, seller identity, region, and return terms before paying.

Authorized retail channels
Pokémon Support directs shoppers in the United States and Canada to Pokémon Center and an official retail locator. Use the locator to identify participating stores, then verify the exact Charizard item at the store or retailer site. A retailer can be authorized for Pokémon products without carrying every Charizard SKU, and a temporary promotion does not guarantee ongoing stock.
Pokémon Center Support also describes licensing and distribution through Pokémon Center, automated retail vending machines, and limited-time deals with major retailers. Those channels explain why an authentic item may be sold outside Pokémon Center, but they do not make every product on a large marketplace official.

Partnerships are category- and product-specific
The Pokémon Company’s licensing information says it works continuously with tie-up partners and licensees. It cites collaborations such as CDG by Comme des Garçons in 2022, Tiffany & Co. in 2023, and FENDI with Hiroshi Fujiwara in 2024. These examples demonstrate the range of licensed collaborations, but they do not prove that a particular Charizard item, colorway, or seller is part of one of those deals.
Check the Nintendo seal where it applies
Nintendo describes the Official Nintendo Licensed Product Seal as assurance that a product has been evaluated and licensed by Nintendo for use with its systems. Nintendo’s guidance applies the seal to licensed gaming accessories and peripherals and to merchandise such as apparel, toys, and bedding.
Look for the seal on the physical package, not only in a seller’s title or product photograph. Compare the manufacturer, importer, copyright notice, barcode, and regional labeling with the seller’s description. A missing seal is not by itself proof of counterfeiting for every Pokémon item—some categories use different licensing arrangements—but it is a reason to investigate before purchase.

Pokémon Center Support says smaller retailers generally do not receive Pokémon Center licensing or Pokémon Center wholesale pricing. Trading cards are an exception because they use existing mass-market distribution partnerships. Therefore, a small shop may legitimately sell Pokémon TCG cards while lacking Pokémon Center authorization for plush, apparel, or other merchandise. Do not use a store’s TCG inventory as evidence that all of its Charizard products are licensed.

Charizard cards and products in Scarlet & Violet—151
The official product page for Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—151 identifies Charizard ex cards and lists several collection formats. These are sealed or collectible trading-card products, so availability and price must be checked in the buyer’s region rather than inferred from the original launch announcement.

The product page does not establish a guaranteed resale price, scarcity premium, or investment return. Secondary-market values depend on card condition, language, print details, grading status, demand, and the seller’s ability to prove authenticity.

“Worth collecting” depends on the job you want the item to do. Separate gameplay, collecting, gifting, display, and long-term speculation before comparing products.

For a first purchase, match the item to a specific objective instead of buying the most expensive box. A sealed 151 product may suit a set builder, while a single Charizard ex may suit a player who needs one card. A plush or apparel item is usually a design purchase, not a substitute for a TCG product.
Authenticity checklist for a Charizard purchase
- Identify the exact item. Record the product name, collection or set, language, edition, and whether it is new, opened, or graded.
- Check the channel. Prefer Pokémon Center or a retailer identified through Pokémon’s official locator. For a marketplace, record the individual seller rather than relying on the marketplace name.
- Inspect packaging. Look for licensing information, the Official Nintendo Licensed Product Seal where applicable, manufacturer details, copyright notices, barcode, and regional labeling.
- Compare photographs with the official listing. Mismatched logos, fonts, colors, accessories, dimensions, or product names are warning signs.
- Confirm condition and returns. Ask whether seals are intact, whether cards have been handled, and what happens if the item is counterfeit or damaged.
- Save proof of purchase. Keep the receipt, listing, photos, and seller communications in case a dispute is necessary.
Availability, region, and timing pitfalls
- Launch date is not current stock. The 151 Elite Trainer Box launched on September 22, 2023, and the Ultra-Premium Collection launched on October 6, 2023. Those dates do not say whether a product is available today.
- Regional eligibility changes. Pokémon Center catalogs, shipping rules, retailer assortments, and TCG language availability differ by country.
- Special forms have special rules. Gigantamax Charizard’s Sword and Shield encounter method should not be generalized to another Pokémon title.
- Marketplace photos can outlive a listing. A cached image or old product page may show a discontinued SKU, a different region, or a seller who no longer has stock.
- Franchise figures are not Charizard sales figures. The Pokémon Company International reports more than 380 million Pokémon video games sold worldwide and Pokémon TCG availability in 76 countries and 13 languages. Those are franchise-level figures, not evidence of Charizard-specific sales or licensing revenue.
A practical decision path
Start with the outcome: an in-game Charizard, a playable card, a sealed collection, or a physical design item. For an in-game goal, name the title and form, then verify encounter and HOME transfer rules. For a purchase, choose an official or traceable retail channel, confirm the exact regional SKU, and inspect licensing and condition. For collecting, decide whether you value completion, playability, display, or historical release timing; each goal produces a different sensible choice.
That approach keeps the recognizable Charizard design at the center without confusing a Sword and Shield battle form, a Scarlet & Violet—151 Charizard ex card, and a licensed physical product that happen to share the same character.
