Celestica opened its second Suzhou manufacturing plant on November 13, 2003, in the Singapore-Suzhou Industrial Park. The company said the new facility supported more than 1,600 employees and brought its total investment in Suzhou to more than $140 million.
When did Celestica open its second Suzhou plant?
The plant opened on November 13, 2003. EDN reported that it was the second Celestica plant built in the Suzhou region in the preceding three years; Celestica’s corporate history also records a new Suzhou manufacturing facility opening in 2003. EDN’s opening report and Celestica’s company history independently establish the event.
The opening concerned a manufacturing plant. It is distinct from Celestica GBS Suzhou, a later global-business-services center that the Suzhou Industrial Park administration says opened on March 22, 2017, with more than 300 employees. The administration describes the manufacturing plant as established in 2003. Suzhou Industrial Park administration’s 2017 account

What did the second plant add?
The opening report said the facility gave original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers manufacturing choices spanning high-volume, low-mix production and low-volume, high-mix work. Celestica vice president of China Operations Cliff Chu said the plant expanded the company’s China presence and added capability in the region. He also pointed to the proximity of Celestica facilities in Suzhou, Shanghai and Dongguan as a benefit for customers and a way to improve operational efficiency. EDN’s 2003 report
