Is the Switch 2 upgrade free?
Kitfox describes the upgrade as free for owners of the Switch 1 game. The captured announcement does not state the redemption steps or detailed eligibility terms, so those practical details remain unconfirmed. When does the Switch 2 version release?
No release date for the dedicated Switch 2 version is stated in the announcement. Nintendo’s US store listing gives February 16, 2026 as the release date for the existing Switch digital game; that date is not the Switch 2 edition’s release date. Kitfox’s earlier July 28, 2025 announcement of the Switch port concerned the original Switch release, not the timing of this new edition.

Is the current Switch game already Switch 2-enhanced?
Nintendo’s US listing describes the currently available product as Nintendo Switch digital software and gives this compatibility note for playing it on Switch 2: “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.” That describes the existing Switch software’s compatibility, not the features of the separately announced dedicated Switch 2 version. What technical improvements are confirmed?
None are specified in the captured announcement. It does not state a Switch 2 resolution, frame rate, loading-time change, control feature, or other technical enhancement. Nintendo says Switch 2 Edition upgrade contents vary by game, so general possibilities are not evidence that Caves of Qud will receive any particular improvement.

Caves of Qud is a turn-based science-fantasy roguelike built around sandbox exploration and combat. Nintendo’s product description emphasizes a simulated world whose creatures and NPCs have skills, equipment, faction allegiances, and body parts. It also lists more than 70 factions and more than 70 mutations, alongside quests, villages, historic sites, and character builds involving mutations and cybernetics. Those counts and descriptions are Nintendo’s product claims.
