The company says the capability discovers and classifies connected devices, lets administrators apply device-based access policies, and extends its threat-prevention tools to those devices—all as a native feature of the Cato SASE Cloud Platform, without additional sensors or appliances. Cato said it was generally available globally at launch.
What Cato IoT/OT Security does
IoT devices include connected equipment such as cameras and sensors; OT refers to the hardware and systems used to monitor or control industrial processes. These devices can be difficult to manage when they lack modern security features or run older software. Cato’s offering is intended to bring their visibility and protection into the same cloud-delivered security platform used for other enterprise traffic.
The announcement is significant as a platform expansion, not as evidence that every device is automatically secured. Cato describes a three-part workflow: identify devices, apply access controls, and inspect traffic with its threat-prevention stack.
How discovery and policy work
Identify connected devices
Cato says its AI and machine-learning fingerprinting identifies devices across IT, IoT, and OT and maps characteristics such as device type, manufacturer, and version. The company says this works without integration. A December 9, 2024 product update describes AI-powered Device Inventory and Device Dashboard pages for viewing these devices.

Apply device-aware access rules
Administrators can set policies using individual device characteristics or group devices by type, manufacturer, or model. Cato says dynamic device attributes can be used as firewall policy conditions, allowing organizations to control access to internal and external resources based on what a device is rather than only on its network address.
Discovery does not replace network design or policy decisions. Organizations still need to decide which devices should reach which systems and resources, and how to handle devices that are misidentified or whose attributes are incomplete.
What threat prevention Cato says it provides
Cato says its existing threat-prevention stack can be applied to IoT and OT traffic. The listed protections are:
Rank #2
- Continuously Powered by Solar: Just 3 hours of sunlight is enough to keep the camera running. The tiny size and wire-free design allow it to be installed anywhere.
- Day and Night Clarity: Enjoy clear black-and-white night vision thanks to infrared LEDs and an f/1.6 aperture. Please note that spotlight color night vision is not supported.
- Easy Installation: Use anywhere thanks to its tiny size and wire-free design. Drill one hole, once.
- Human Detection: Al alerts you to anyone in your yard, whether family, a courier, or a stranger. Connect to HomeBase 3 for individual facial recognition.
- No Monthly Fee: One-time purchase. No monthly fees or hidden costs. On-device storage and AI for complete security and transparency.
- Intrusion prevention (IPS)
- Next-generation anti-malware (NGAM)
- Sandboxing
- DNS Security
- Inline AI and machine-learning protections
Cato says these tools address known and zero-day threats, and that device type and manufacturer can inform tailored protections. Deployment and management
Cato positions IoT/OT Security as native to the Cato SASE Cloud Platform and the Cato Management Application. It says customers do not need additional hardware, software, sensors, or appliances for the capability. The product update describes shared dashboards, logs, events, and objects within the management application, rather than a separate console.
That architecture may reduce the number of separate tools an organization operates, but “no integration” should not be read as “no work.” Teams still need to review device inventories, create and maintain access policies, and fit the feature into their network and security operations.
Rank #3
- High-definition pan and tilt camera: Capture every detail in pristine 1080p HD quality, from any angle, with the Energizer Connect security camera's 355-degree horizontal and 48-degree vertical pan and tilt capabilities.
- Night Vision Equipped: Camera has 4 led lights and 4 IR lights that switch automatically depending on the lighting conditions, allowing you to see color at night or black and white in total darkness.
- Two-Way Audio: Allowing you to listen and talk to the person in the video, using the built-in microphone and speaker, or siren alarm to deter intruders.
- Flexible Storage Options: Choose cloud storage with a complimentary 30-day trial or utilize a micro SD card (up to 128GB, not included) for local recording.
- 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Compatible: Connects to your 2.4ghz wifi network, which is the most common wifi frequency. It does not support 5ghz wifi networks.
Availability and what buyers should verify
Cato announced the feature on December 10, 2024, and said it was generally available globally at launch. The cited materials do not state pricing, licensing details, service-level limits, or compliance certifications for particular deployments. Buyers should confirm current availability and commercial terms with Cato or a provider, then evaluate:
- Whether the devices and models in their environment are identified accurately and consistently.
- How granular the available policy controls are for their segmentation requirements.
- Which threat-prevention features apply to their device types and traffic.
- How logs and alerts fit existing workflows and incident-response processes.
- What licensing, service limits, and deployment requirements apply to their account.
How to interpret the market claims
Cato called its launch an “industry-first” SASE-native IoT/OT security solution and its CEO described Cato as the “only SASE leader” to build such a solution from the ground up. Those are Cato’s positioning claims, not independently established comparisons. The sources also cite forecasts rather than observed outcomes: Cato’s launch release relayed a Gartner 2023 forecast that more than 85% of enterprises would have more smart edge devices than laptops, tablets, desktops, or smartphones by 2025; Network World relayed an IDC figure of more than 41 billion IoT devices in 2025. Neither number is a measurement by Cato.
