Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is a new 2D action-exploration game starring Rose Belmont; Castlevania Dominus Collection is a package of five earlier games brought to current platforms. The clearest difference is therefore new adventure versus retro collection—not a hands-on verdict about which plays better. As of October 3, 2026, Belmont’s Curse is scheduled for October 15, and its opening-chapter demo is available.
Is Belmont’s Curse a new game or a collection?
It is a new game, not a remaster or compilation. Konami describes Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse as a 2D action-exploration title developed with Evil Empire and Motion Twin. Its story follows Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont, in Paris in 1499—23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Konami’s official site says Rose bears Dracula’s curse in her right arm. Konami’s official Belmont’s Curse site gives the game’s premise and announced features.
By contrast, Castlevania Dominus Collection packages earlier games: the DS-era Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia, plus Haunted Castle and Haunted Castle Revisited. Konami says the three DS titles originally launched between 2005 and 2008. It is a way to play those older releases on modern platforms, not a new Rose Belmont story. Konami’s Dominus Collection announcement lists the included games and collection features.
How does Belmont’s Curse compare with the Dominus Collection?
| What differs | Belmont’s Curse | Dominus Collection |
|---|---|---|
| Format | One new 2D action-exploration game. | A collection of five earlier games. |
| Story | Rose Belmont in Paris in 1499, connected to the events of Dracula’s Curse. | Separate existing games, each with its own story and mechanics. |
| Announced play focus | The Vampire Killer whip is intended for combat and movement, alongside other weapons, relics, and boss-linked Arcana powers. | The original games’ mechanics, with collection conveniences including rewind, quick saves, configurable dual-screen layouts, and reference and gallery content. |
| What it offers | A new entry in the series. | Access to older titles on current platforms, with preservation and convenience features. |
This comparison uses the Dominus Collection as a concrete recent example; it does not describe every modern Castlevania release. The two products also serve different purposes: one is a forthcoming new adventure, the other a collection of existing games.

What’s different about Belmont’s Curse’s announced design?
The whip is for movement as well as combat
Konami says the Vampire Killer can be used to swing and reach areas as well as attack enemies. That makes traversal a prominent part of the game’s announced design, rather than describing the whip only as a weapon. The announced description is not a hands-on assessment of how movement feels in play.
Weapons, equipment, relics, and Arcana
Konami has announced a variety of weapons, seven equipment categories, and relics with offensive or defensive effects. It also describes Arcana powers created by sealing defeated bosses into tarot cards. These systems suggest several ways to equip Rose and use powers, but official descriptions alone do not establish how balanced or flexible those choices will be.

Gothic returning figures and a vivid visual approach
Official materials name series figures including Death, Medusa, and Carmilla, alongside Joan of Arc. Konami describes a vivid visual approach that retains gothic elements. These details establish elements of the announced cast and style, not a judgment about the final presentation.

- Castlevania Dominus Collection on a region-free physical disc.
- Three action adventure games from the Castlevania series.
- Also includes Haunted Castle Revisited, a redesigned version of the very first Castlevania arcade game, debuting for the first time.
Konami says demo save data can transfer to the full game on the same platform and account, subject to its stated conditions. Check the official game site for the applicable transfer details. The demo is the available way to sample the opening chapter; it cannot establish how the full game’s later areas, pacing, or overall difficulty will compare with earlier entries.
Which should you choose?
- Choose Belmont’s Curse if you want a new story, a new protagonist, and the announced whip-based movement and combat systems. It is scheduled for October 15, 2026.
- Choose Dominus Collection if you want the named older games on a current platform, with collection features such as rewind and quick saves.
- Try the Belmont’s Curse demo if you want to sample its opening chapter before deciding whether to buy the new game.
There is not yet a reliable basis for saying which is more responsive, difficult, replayable, or enjoyable: Belmont’s Curse has not launched as of October 3, 2026. Those comparisons require experience with the released game rather than its announced feature list.

What comes in the physical Midnight Edition?
In a June 8, 2026 announcement, Konami described a physical Midnight Edition containing the main game, a digital sound and art gallery, Trevor and Sypha style costumes, and the Family’s Grace relic. Konami also said select EMEA retailers may offer a SteelBook and Rose tarot card, but did not name those retailers. Check local listings for edition availability and current price; the US PlayStation listing showed the PS5 standard edition at $29.99 when accessed, a price that may change. The PlayStation Blog announcement covers the game’s announcement; Konami’s official site is the relevant source for current game details.
