If you are stuck in Catacombs of Paris Part 3, the next objective is not completed inside the Catacombs immediately. First defeat Joan of Arc, take the Warrior’s Key, and return to the gate beside the Abandoned Sewers in the lower-left of the Paris Streets map. If the Prophetess’s Key has not been placed there, interact with the gate and place it before entering. Inside, follow the green Death Marks down the left side of the map, then continue through the Crossroads of the Dead, Chamber of Whispers, De Rais Necropolis, and the Jaws of Limbo.
This guide gives the complete route, including the sewer mirrors, Prison Tower, Catacomb hazards, the Whip, the post-Death escape, and the Ferryman’s Wharf exit.
What to do after Medusa
Defeating Medusa in the Ossuary of the Innocents does not open the Catacombs gate by itself. The objective can continue to point toward the gate while the required key is still missing. Leave the Ossuary and use the following route:
- Go to Holy Innocents’ Cemetery and use the mirror there to reach the Ancient Sewers.
- In the Paris Streets sewer area, use the sewer mirror to enter the Sewer Reservoir.
- Cross the sawblade-and-spike section and climb the Prison Tower.
- Ride the Prison Tower lift to the upper tower.
- Reach the roof and defeat Joan of Arc.
Joan is the progression gatekeeper for this part of the game. Her defeat awards the Warrior’s Key and changes the objective to reaching the Catacombs gate.

How to reach the Catacombs gate
Find the lower-left sewer entrance
Return to the Paris Streets map after Joan’s defeat. The gate is in the lower-left area, beside the Abandoned Sewers. It is easy to miss if you search the central streets or revisit the Ossuary, because the entrance is attached to the sewer section rather than presented as a prominent new landmark.
Place the Prophetess’s Key if required
Before moving on, check whether the Prophetess’s Key has been placed at the gate. If it has not, return to the gate and interact with it. The game requires this interaction before the Catacombs route can proceed. Once the key condition is satisfied, use the gate to enter.
If the gate does not respond, verify both progression requirements: Joan of Arc must be defeated so that you have the Warrior’s Key, and the Prophetess’s Key must be placed at the gate. Do not spend time searching for another entrance inside the Paris Streets buildings; the intended entrance is the lower-left Abandoned Sewers area.
Catacombs movement: the abilities you need
Use Holy Light on Chaos Shard walls
Chaos Shard walls are not ordinary background obstacles. They block the intended route until you use Holy Light. When a passage appears sealed by the shimmering shard material, activate Holy Light and pass through rather than looking for a floor-level door or a breakable section.
Combine wall jumps and Anchor swings
Much of the Catacombs is a vertical movement test. The recurring sequence is a wall jump to gain height, followed by a swing from a Sharpened Anchor, then a controlled jump toward the next ledge or wall. Treat each anchor as a timing point: attach, let the swing carry you through the safe gap, and release only when the next surface is reachable.

- Battle through the corridors of Dracula’s Castle; Wield weapons against monsters to reach the throne room of the Dark Lord
Read hazards before committing
Saw blades and spikes are placed around the same movement lines as the anchors. Pause on a safe wall, watch the blade’s cycle, and begin the jump during the opening rather than trying to correct your position after contact. If you fall, repeat the movement pattern instead of changing direction randomly; the route is designed around predictable wall-jump and anchor timing.
Following the Death Marks
Open the map when the Spirit reveals the clue
After the Spirit reveals the Death Mark clue, open the map. The marks appear in green. They lead down the left-hand side of the Catacombs before reaching the Crossroads of the Dead.
Do not interpret the marks as a hint to search every room for a hidden switch. They are a route indicator. Stay on the left side, use Holy Light where Chaos Shard walls block the line, and continue downward until the marked path becomes an enemy gauntlet.
Clear the enemy gauntlet
The gauntlet contains Biphrons, Skull Spiders, and a Giant Skeleton. Defeat all three enemy types so the passage can resolve. If the route seems to stop after the fight, check the map and move toward the Crossroads of the Dead; clearing the gauntlet returns you there rather than opening a separate Catacomb exit.
Continue through the Chamber of Whispers
From the Crossroads of the Dead, proceed onward through the Chamber of Whispers. The Death Mark route is meant to carry you through this chamber and into the next major area, not back toward the entrance gate.

De Rais Necropolis and the Jaws of Limbo
Defeat the Bone Pillars
In De Rais Necropolis, defeat the Bone Pillars blocking the descent. Move down through the opened route until you reach the long Bone Pillar leading toward the Jaws of Limbo.
Collect the hidden Wall Chicken
At the bottom of the long Bone Pillar, check the right-hand wall before entering the enemy room. A hidden Wall Chicken is concealed there. This is a collectible detour, not a requirement for opening the Jaws or advancing the objective, so missing it does not mean the route is broken.
Enter the Jaws of Limbo
After checking the right wall, enter the enemy room and continue toward the Jaws of Limbo. Keep moving down the intended path; the Wall Chicken is the notable secret at this point, while the forward route remains through the enemy room and into the Jaws.
The Whip in the Hall of the Fallen Angels
The Hall of the Fallen Angels contains the Whip. Pick it up and watch the cutscene. A fight follows immediately, and the new weapon is intended for that encounter.
Aim with the tip
The Whip’s tip deals the most damage. Stand far enough away to align the end of the weapon with the enemy rather than striking with the handle or middle of the arc. In cramped rooms, reposition first, then attack; repeatedly swinging from too close can reduce the benefit of the weapon’s strongest hit.

Use the new weapon during the ensuing fight
The post-cutscene fight is the practical demonstration of the Whip. If your attacks seem weak, adjust spacing so the tip connects. The weapon is not merely a story reward to save for later; use it in the fight that follows the pickup.
What happens after the first Death sequence
Wake in the Collapsed Path of Orpheus
After the first Death sequence, Rose wakes in the Collapsed Path of Orpheus. The route changes from the earlier Necropolis progression to an upward escape.
Climb with the same movement tools used earlier: Holy Light for Chaos Shard walls, wall jumps for vertical surfaces, and Sharpened Anchor swings for gaps. If the climb appears impossible, look for a shard wall that requires Holy Light or an anchor positioned above the current ledge rather than searching for a conventional staircase.
Choose the correct exit at the top
At the top of the Collapsed Path, take the right exit to the blue Ferryman’s Wharf door. The left exit leads to the Realm of Old Night and is blocked at this stage. The blocked left route is not a missed key or a failed jump, so do not waste time trying to force it open.
Recommended Free Tools
Speak with the Ferryman
Enter the blue door and speak with the Ferryman. The Ferryman provides the post-Catacombs travel connection back toward Paris Streets. This is the intended exit after the Death sequence and the correct way to resume travel rather than retracing the entire Catacomb route.

Stuck-point troubleshooting
The objective still says to unlock the gate
That wording is expected immediately after Medusa. Follow the cemetery mirror, Ancient Sewers, Paris Streets sewer mirror, Sewer Reservoir, Prison Tower, tower lift, and roof route to Joan of Arc. The objective changes only after Joan is defeated and the Warrior’s Key is awarded.
I defeated Joan but cannot find the gate
Open the Paris Streets map and inspect the lower-left corner. Look beside the Abandoned Sewers, not around the Ossuary or the central street entrances.
The gate is present but does nothing
Interact with it and check the Prophetess’s Key condition. If that key has not been placed, the gate sequence is incomplete. Joan’s Warrior’s Key alone is not a substitute for placing the Prophetess’s Key.
The Death Marks seem to point nowhere
Open the map after the Spirit reveals the clue and follow the green marks down the left side. A Chaos Shard wall may require Holy Light. Once you reach the marked enemy gauntlet, defeat the Biphrons, Skull Spiders, and Giant Skeleton to return to the Crossroads of the Dead.
I cannot climb the Collapsed Path of Orpheus
Use Holy Light on shard walls, wall-jump between vertical surfaces, and swing from Sharpened Anchors. At the top, take the right exit to the blue Ferryman’s Wharf door. The left Realm of Old Night exit is blocked for now.
The Whip feels weak
Increase your spacing and aim the tip at the enemy. The tip is the Whip’s highest-damage area, and the fight after the cutscene is designed around using that reach.
