Isaac and Death are the toughest Belmont’s Curse bosses in this editorial ranking. Talos follows because his timed traversal and exposed-core damage windows punish both poor routing and mistimed attacks. Carmilla (also identified as The Occultist) and Medusa require specific counters rather than a simple damage race, while The Fallen is the most approachable major fight once you understand his spinning-cross parry.

This is an editorial synthesis of the currently documented mechanics, not an official Konami difficulty scale. The community roster is still being mapped: seven named encounters are well documented, while the often-cited total of 13 bosses across 17 fights remains community-reported rather than an official count.

What is confirmed about the Belmont’s Curse boss roster?

Konami describes Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse as a 2D action-exploration game set in 1499. You play Rose Belmont as she fights through burning Paris with the Vampire Killer whip. The game launched on October 15, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam.

Konami’s product information names Death, Medusa, Carmilla and Joan of Arc as bosses. A current community guide additionally documents The Fallen, Isaac and Talos. That guide reports 13 unique bosses appearing in 17 fights, but neither that total nor a complete encounter order has been confirmed by Konami. Treat names, phase details and thresholds that come only from community documentation as subject to revision.

Defeated bosses are sealed into tarot cards that become Arcana abilities. Because those rewards can alter Rose’s build and route options, a boss is not merely a gate to the next room: the order in which you tackle optional paths can affect which weapon, relic and Arcana combination you bring to later fights. The game has seven weapon categories plus relics, so changing equipment is a legitimate part of preparation rather than a last resort.

Bosses ranked from hardest to easiest

The ranking below weighs mechanical demands, movement or traversal burden, punishment for mistakes, phase complexity, preparation dependence and whether the documented counter is reliable. It does not assign scores because no reproducible official or community numerical scale has been published.

Rank Boss Telegraph and counter Movement burden Mistake punishment Phase/build demands
1 Isaac Complete moveset and tested counter are not yet documented; learn patterns before committing damage. Not established Editorially judged very high Late-game benchmark; build check likely
2 Death Specific counter is not established in the available documentation. Not established High by encounter context and endurance expectations Late-game-style endurance test
3 Talos Wait for the orange chest core to expose; ordinary bronze body resists damage. Very high because of timed traversal rooms High when routes or timing fail Route knowledge and safe damage timing
4 Carmilla / The Occultist Track the curse hit-count number; run from the blood wave, sidestep the slab and punish the stagger. High during the blood wave High if the curse count is wasted Mixed attacks below half health; stagger window
5 Medusa / The Prophetess Turn away from the petrifying gaze; movement alone does not counter it. Moderate; stay on the upper platform and use falling boulders as cover High if petrified or caught by the tail Rage-phase positioning; exact trigger disputed
6 Joan of Arc No reliable detailed moveset or tested weakness is established. Not established Not established Provisional placement
7 The Fallen Strike the thrown spinning cross to stagger; slide or roll through the three-hit combo and hit his back twice. Moderate Manageable once the recovery pattern is learned Clear tutorial-like counter; phase-two trigger disputed

1. Isaac: the hardest-tier benchmark

Isaac occupies the top position because the available community documentation places him in a late-game role with layered attack patterns, little margin for error and a meaningful build check. The sources do not provide a complete Isaac moveset, verified damage values or a tested weakness, so this is an informed editorial judgment rather than a measured statistic.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to prepare

  • Arrive with a weapon and relic combination you already understand instead of experimenting during the encounter.
  • Use exploration and alternate routes to improve Rose before treating Isaac as a mandatory damage race.
  • Spend the opening attempts identifying telegraphs and safe reset points. Chasing hits before you know the pattern is likely to turn a recoverable mistake into a full defeat.

Until a reproducible guide documents his attacks, the dependable strategy is disciplined observation: identify which animations precede area attacks, which openings are genuine and when the arena denies retreat. Do not present an unverified weakness as fact.

2. Death: hardest-tier endurance

Death is confirmed by Konami and the community roster. He ranks beside Isaac because he is framed as a late-game-style endurance test and a signature Castlevania confrontation. No authoritative source currently supplies a complete moveset, win rate or numerical damage test, so the ranking reflects encounter context and expected sustained execution rather than a published statistic.

Practical approach

Bring a build that can survive a long exchange and avoid spending consumables or high-commitment attacks before you understand the arena. Treat every opening as a question of repeatability: a smaller punish you can perform consistently is safer than a single large hit that leaves Rose exposed. If progress stalls, leveling, route changes and equipment swaps are intended solutions.

3. Talos: route the arena before attacking

Talos is very hard because the encounter combines a boss with timed traversal sections. GamesRadar highlights those timed rooms, while the community guide identifies Talos’s orange chest core as the weak point and says his bronze body resists ordinary damage.

Step-by-step plan

  1. Learn the traversal route first. Run the timed rooms without trying to force damage. Note jumps, drops, safe pauses and the point at which the next attack window begins.
  2. Preserve movement options. Do not spend your jump, roll or slide merely to gain a marginal hit on the resistant bronze body.
  3. Wait for core exposure. Reposition until the orange chest core is visible; attacks made against the rest of the body are an inefficient use of the opening.
  4. Spend damage safely. Use your strongest reliable attack during exposure, then return to movement before the next traversal or hazard sequence.

The fight becomes substantially less volatile when you separate navigation from damage. The route is part of the boss mechanic, not a prelude you can ignore.

4. Carmilla / The Occultist: manage the curse counter

The community guide calls this encounter Carmilla, while its tactical description identifies The Occultist. The defining mechanic is a curse that binds a hit count independently of Carmilla’s HP. In other words, the number attached to the curse is the resource you must manage; ordinary damage alone does not solve the fight.

Recognize and answer each attack

  • Blood spikes: the spikes are telegraphed. Wait for the cue and move rather than attacking through it.
  • Blood wave: run to the far end of the arena. Trying to jump or trade damage through the wave wastes the space needed to survive.
  • Slab smash: sidestep the impact instead of retreating in a straight line.
  • Rage sequence: below half health, attacks are mixed together. Hold defensive options until the sequence resolves.
  • Stagger: after the rage sequence, use the damage window decisively, then reset your position.

The guide does not establish a universally verified numerical threshold for every phase. Watch the encounter’s cues and the curse count rather than relying on a percentage copied from an unverified route.

5. Medusa / The Prophetess: turn away from the gaze

Medusa, also called The Prophetess in the community guide, is moderate to hard because one mechanic overrides normal movement habits. When the petrifying gaze cue appears, Rose must look away. Rolling or jumping does not solve the gaze by themselves.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Positioning and rage-phase survival

  1. Watch for the gaze cue. As soon as it appears, turn Rose away from Medusa. Do not attempt to out-jump or out-roll the effect.
  2. Stay on the upper platform. The elevated position helps avoid the tail attack and gives you a clearer view of the arena.
  3. Use falling boulders as cover. During the rage phase, place a boulder between Rose and the threat instead of trying to outrun every attack.
  4. Do not memorize an unverified rage percentage. Community documentation disagrees on the exact threshold, so respond to the phase cues you see in your version.

Medusa rewards camera and character orientation more than raw reflex speed. Keep enough room to turn away without backing into the platform edge.

6. Joan of Arc: a provisional middle placement

Konami confirms Joan of Arc as a boss, but the available sources do not provide a reliable detailed moveset, tested weakness or measured difficulty assessment. She therefore sits in the middle of this list provisionally, not because her mechanics have been proven moderate.

Approach Joan as an information-gathering fight: observe attack tells, identify safe recovery windows and avoid committing rare resources until you know which attacks can be interrupted. Her eventual position may change as the community documents the encounter more completely.

7. The Fallen: the clearest skill-check counter

The Fallen is the easiest of the documented major fights once his pattern is learned. The encounter teaches a precise sequence: break the thrown spinning cross with a melee strike, pass through his three-hit combo, hit his back twice and retreat before the third strike.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Reliable sequence

  1. Break the spinning cross. Strike the thrown cross with a melee attack to stagger The Fallen.
  2. Pass the combo. When he begins the three-hit string, roll or slide through it instead of blocking the entire sequence.
  3. Punish the back. Deliver two hits from behind while he recovers.
  4. Leave before hit three. Retreat before the next strike of the combo can connect; greed is the main way this otherwise readable fight turns costly.

The community guide disputes the exact HP trigger for phase two. Use the visible change in behavior rather than a supposedly precise percentage.

Is there a best order for the bosses?

No official complete boss order has been published, and the community count is still being reconciled. The following is a practical learning order, not a claim about the game’s mandatory route:

  1. The Fallen: learn melee staggering, movement through combos and back attacks.
  2. Medusa: add orientation discipline and platform positioning.
  3. Joan of Arc: investigate an encounter whose detailed pattern remains undocumented.
  4. Carmilla / The Occultist: practice resource-count management and multi-attack transitions.
  5. Talos: tackle timed traversal after you are comfortable preserving movement tools.
  6. Death: bring the build and endurance habits developed in earlier fights.
  7. Isaac: reserve the late-game benchmark for a finished or deliberately optimized build.

Actual progression can differ with exploration and route choices. Boss victories also become Arcana tarot-card abilities, so an optional fight that grants a useful Arcana may be worth taking earlier for your chosen build.

Can you lower the boss difficulty?

Yes. GamesRadar reports accessibility options that include extra potion capacity, boss retries without runbacks, boosted attack damage and Mirror of Life save points. These settings reduce repetition and recovery time without requiring you to abandon exploration or the game’s combat systems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There are also in-game alternatives that do not depend on a setting:

  • Level up before repeating a stalled attempt.
  • Explore alternate routes for upgrades and Arcana choices.
  • Change weapons or relics to match the boss’s movement and opening windows.
  • Use a safer, repeatable punish instead of maximizing damage per opening.

Producer Tsutomu Taniguchi said, “People might find the game difficult if they can’t win a certain battle, but there are always numerous alternatives.” Director Yukiko Hokao similarly said, “We didn’t want it to be a simple or easy game. That isn’t Castlevania.” Those comments describe the intended challenge while leaving room for accessibility tools and route-based preparation.

What the current evidence does—and does not—establish

  • Seven named encounters—The Fallen, Joan of Arc, Medusa, Isaac, Carmilla, Death and Talos—are currently documented, but the reported 13-boss, 17-fight total is community-reported and not official.
  • No authoritative win-rate, damage, completion-time or numerical difficulty statistic is available.
  • Talos’s orange chest core, Medusa’s gaze counter and The Occultist’s curse count are the most clearly documented mechanic-specific answers.
  • Phase thresholds, especially The Fallen’s phase-two trigger and Medusa’s rage threshold, remain disputed in community coverage.
  • Isaac and Death are ranked hardest here through editorial synthesis of encounter context and expected demands, not through a Konami rating.
