Why one G-SHOCK costs about $89,000
The MRG-D5000 Blue Rose Project is the headline-making watch. Tom’s Guide reported on 1 October 2026 that it costs £67,000—roughly $88,600—and that only 20 pieces will be made. That dollar amount is a conversion of the reported UK price, not an established U.S. retail price. Tom’s Guide’s report is the source for the price and production figure.
The price reflects an unusually elaborate case rather than a different kind of everyday function. Tom’s Guide says the bezel and outer case are made entirely from blue sapphire crystal. The report attributes the impact-protection approach to a Casio press release: multiple interacting outer components are designed to disperse impacts. It describes this as an evolution of the multi-guard structure introduced with the titanium MRG-B5000 in 2022. The release itself was not independently available for confirmation, so those engineering details should be understood as reported by Tom’s Guide.
What the new Mudman GDG-B100 does
The GDG-B100 Mudman is the practical counterpart, with a reported UK price of £200. Tom’s Guide describes it as intended for military and first-responder use. Its carbon-fiber-reinforced resin case and sealed buttons are designed to help keep mud and dust out; a memory-in-pixel LCD is paired with a red LED backlight. Check local pricing and stock, which may differ by market.

Activity and training features
The Mudman tracks distance, speed, pace, calories, steps and laps. It also includes a stopwatch and interval timer, making its activity tools relevant to training as well as daily movement.
Bluetooth and phone link
Through Bluetooth and Casio’s Smartphone Link, the watch can send activity records to a connected phone and display phone alerts. Those connected tools complement the watch’s activity functions; they do not make it a full smartwatch replacement.

This is not a conventional head-to-head shopping choice. The MRG-D5000’s reported 20-piece run puts it in collector territory, while the GDG-B100 is the model to investigate for a rugged watch with training and activity tools. The reported features, price and availability come from Tom’s Guide’s 1 October 2026 report; market-specific launch details were not established in that report.

The MRG-D5000 is distinct from the G-D001 Dream Project #2, another experimental G-SHOCK but a different watch. Casio’s official UK page describes the G-D001 as a 40th-anniversary one-off made from 18-karat yellow gold and offered through a charity auction. It was a single watch worldwide, not a production figure for the MRG-D5000. Casio’s G-D001 page also frames the Dream Project around the brand’s history of continual evolution.
