Carlos Washington Jr. did not make the Miami Dolphins’ initial 53-man roster. Miami waived the running back during its August 30, 2026, cutdown and announced the next day that he had signed to the practice squad.
What happened to Carlos Washington in Miami?
The Dolphins’ transaction announcements show three steps in Washington’s 2026 stint with the team:
- May 21, 2026: Miami announced that it had signed Washington as a free agent. The team’s signing notice also summarized his NFL and college background.
- August 30, 2026: In its cutdown announcement, Miami listed Washington among the players it waived. The official roster-moves notice is the relevant transaction for the initial roster question.
- August 31, 2026: Miami announced Washington among nine players signed to its practice squad. The team’s practice-squad announcement records that subsequent move.
Did Washington make the 53-man roster?
No. Miami’s August 30 announcement lists him among the players waived, and the team announced his practice-squad signing on August 31. Those are separate roster statuses: the practice squad is not a place on the initial 53-man roster.
Washington’s NFL and college background
According to Miami’s May signing notice, Washington entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Atlanta in 2023 and spent time on the Falcons’ practice squad. He appeared in two career games over two seasons with Atlanta, 2024 and 2025.
