If “G7021” means the Canon MAXIFY GX7021, it is not a close variant of the PIXMA G7020: these are different printer lines with different ink systems and workflow strengths. The G7020 uses GI-20 black pigment and dye color inks; the GX7021 uses four pigment GI-26 inks. Their supplies are not interchangeable. The GX7021 is better equipped for frequent office document work, while the G7020 combines everyday office functions with photo-print features.
First, identify the second printer correctly
Canon’s reviewed official materials document a PIXMA G7020 and a MAXIFY GX7021, not a printer named simply “G7021.” This comparison treats “G7021” as the likely intended MAXIFY GX7021. Confirm the full model name on a listing or product label before buying: the model identity determines which ink bottles fit.

Which model better fits your work?
Choose the GX7021 for document-heavy office routines
The GX7021’s stated 24.0-ipm black and 15.5-ipm color simplex speeds, two 250-sheet cassettes, and 50-sheet ADF suit offices that print frequently and handle batches of originals. Its single-pass duplex scanning can capture both sides of a two-sided original in one pass, which is useful when digitizing or copying multi-page documents.
Choose the G7020 for mixed home and office use
The G7020 pairs an ADF and automatic two-sided document printing with borderless photo printing and a hybrid ink setup: pigment black with dye color inks. Its 350-sheet plain-paper capacity is lower than the GX7021’s cited cassette-plus-rear-tray capacity, but Canon explicitly highlights photo-print features on the PIXMA product page.

Ink compatibility: GI-20 is not GI-26
Buy ink by the complete printer model, not by the shared “70” digits in the model names. The GI-20 bottles are for the PIXMA G7020; the GX7021 uses GI-26 bottles. The inks are not interchangeable. Do not assume that a generic “Canon MegaTank” listing fits either printer unless its compatibility list names the exact model.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare ink cost without misleading yourself
Canon’s page-yield figures help compare advertised capacity, but they are not a fixed cost per page. For the G7020, Canon says the estimates use the ISO/IEC 24712 chart and a continuous-printing simulation with replacement bottles after initial setup. Initial setup consumes ink to charge the print head, and Canon says actual yield varies with content, ink levels and other factors. The G7020’s black economy-mode estimate is a different mode and print type from its default black-and-white or color figures; do not compare it directly with another printer’s color yield.

To calculate a useful estimate, compare the price of the exact bottle set in your region with the matching advertised yield for the kind of printing you do. Keep black text and color output separate, use a dated price, and label the result an estimate. The cited Canon materials do not establish a stable, directly comparable current US price for both GI-20 and GI-26 sets, so a reliable current cost-per-page figure cannot be stated here. Canon’s store listings can change, and stock or availability may vary.

What to verify before ordering
- Confirm that the second printer is the MAXIFY GX7021, not a listing using the incomplete name “G7021.”
- Match the bottle family to the model: GI-20 for G7020; GI-26 for GX7021.
- Check current regional documentation and the retailer’s exact configuration, especially for paper handling, scanning and connectivity.
- For an ink-cost estimate, use current local bottle prices and a yield basis that matches your black-only or color workload.
