Spoilers through the completed Jujutsu Kaisen manga: Yes. Yuji Itadori activates Domain Expansion for the first time at the end of chapter 264 during the Shinjuku Showdown against Sukuna. The reveal is canon, but the completed manga never gives the domain an official name. “Benevolent Shrine” is a fan nickname, not a confirmed title.
Chapter 265 places the confrontation in a setting linked to Yuji’s hometown and memories. That scene is part of the domain sequence, while the exact barrier design and sure-hit wording remain deliberately underexplained. The safest reading is that Yuji’s domain supports his attempt to affect the boundary between Sukuna and Megumi, using the Shrine technique associated with his connection to Sukuna.
What is confirmed about Yuji’s Domain Expansion?
The essential answer comes from the final stretch of the manga. At the end of chapter 264, Yuji activates a Domain Expansion against Sukuna. This is not a prediction, adaptation-only scene, or fan theory: it is a canon event in the completed manga.

VIZ dates chapter 264 to August 4, 2024. The chapter ends on the activation, and chapter 265 continues the sequence with Yuji and Sukuna in an environment connected to Yuji’s hometown and personal history. Because the reveal is split across those chapters, readers sometimes identify the domain by its chapter-265 imagery rather than by its activation scene.

Three facts should be kept separate:
- Yuji does use Domain Expansion.
- The manga does not provide an official name for his domain before the story ends.
- The domain’s exact sure-hit statement and barrier construction are not fully spelled out in the completed text.
Those limits matter. They allow a confident answer about whether Yuji can use a domain, but not a definitive list of every rule governing it.
Which chapter does Yuji use Domain Expansion?
Yuji first uses Domain Expansion at the end of chapter 264, during the Shinjuku Showdown. Chapter 265 is the immediate continuation and shows the memory-linked setting associated with the domain. Both chapters are collected in Jujutsu Kaisen volume 30 according to Shueisha’s official listing.
| Story point | What the completed manga establishes |
|---|---|
| Chapter 264 | Yuji activates Domain Expansion for the first time while fighting Sukuna. |
| Chapter 265 | The confrontation continues in a setting tied to Yuji’s hometown and memories. |
| Volume 30 | Shueisha collects chapters 264 and 265 in this volume. |
| Series status | The manga is complete, so this reveal is part of the finished story rather than an unresolved cliffhanger. |
If you want to read the reveal in context, start with the earlier Shinjuku Showdown chapters and then read chapters 264 and 265 together. Stopping at the final page of chapter 264 leaves the domain’s visual and emotional context unexplained.

The domain sequence uses a setting associated with Yuji’s hometown and personal memories. Yuji and Sukuna’s conversation in chapter 265 is therefore not presented as an ordinary location in the middle of a city fight. It is part of the domain sequence and carries strong personal symbolism.
The visual setting is confirmed; its meaning requires interpretation. Readers commonly understand the hometown environment as a contrast between Yuji’s human connections and Sukuna’s destructive worldview. That is a useful way to read the scene, but the manga does not give a narrator’s sentence defining one official symbolic meaning. It is more accurate to call the symbolism an interpretation than to present it as a rule of the technique.
The setting also should not be confused with the domain’s mechanical specification. A memorable landscape does not, by itself, tell you whether the domain has an open or closed barrier, what its sure-hit effect says, or how its range is calculated. Those details are not completely stated in the finished manga.

What does Yuji’s Domain Expansion do?
The canon-level description is intentionally cautious: Yuji creates a personal domain and confronts Sukuna within it. Secondary readings connect the domain’s decisive attack to Yuji’s Shrine technique and to his effort to separate Sukuna from Megumi. That explanation fits the battle’s immediate stakes, but it should be described as an informed reading of the chapters rather than as a formally named ability description.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe Shrine connection
Late in the story, Yuji is connected to the Shrine technique associated with Sukuna. His domain appears after this late-series awakening, which is why many analyses treat Shrine as the technique expressed through the domain. The manga does not provide a complete technical glossary stating, in one place, exactly how Yuji’s version differs from Sukuna’s.
The soul-targeting reading
The final confrontation is not simply a contest over physical damage. Sukuna’s presence is tied to Megumi, and Yuji’s objective includes affecting the boundary between them. Analyses therefore describe Yuji’s decisive domain attack as soul-targeting: aimed at the separation of Sukuna and Megumi rather than merely destroying everything in an area.
That is the most useful mechanical interpretation available from the sequence, but it is not accompanied by an official technique name or a published numerical specification. The completed manga does not state a damage value, range, duration, or an exact sure-hit sentence for Yuji’s domain.
Why can Yuji use a domain now?
Yuji’s domain appears after a rapid late-series development in his fighting ability. The story gives him several tools that make the activation plausible within the series’ power system, even though it does not present a single checklist saying that each tool is a prerequisite.
Blood Manipulation
Yuji has access to Blood Manipulation in the late series. This expands the ways he can control and apply cursed energy in combat. It is part of the broader power progression that precedes the domain reveal, but the manga does not say that Blood Manipulation alone unlocks Domain Expansion.

Reverse Cursed Technique
Yuji also learns Reverse Cursed Technique. Its most obvious battle value is survival: a fighter who can recover has more opportunity to continue a prolonged, high-risk exchange. That endurance helps explain how Yuji reaches the point where he can deploy a domain, although no official statement calls Reverse Cursed Technique a direct requirement for his activation.
Simple Domain training
Yuji receives Simple Domain training. Simple Domain and Domain Expansion are different techniques, so learning one does not automatically prove mastery of the other. Simple Domain training nevertheless places Yuji within the story’s advanced domain-countermeasure framework and helps explain his preparation for fights where domain techniques are decisive.
Repeated Black Flash use
Yuji’s repeated Black Flash use demonstrates exceptional combat timing and a growing connection to cursed energy. Black Flash is not the same as Domain Expansion, and the manga does not state that a certain number of Black Flashes grants a domain. It is better understood as evidence of Yuji’s late-series refinement and battle momentum.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →His connection to Sukuna
Yuji’s connection to Sukuna is central to the late awakening. The Shrine technique is associated with that connection, and the domain appears in the same broad progression. The exact mechanism by which Yuji acquires or expresses the technique is not summarized in one definitive explanation, so claims that reduce the domain to a simple inheritance rule go beyond what the completed manga explicitly establishes.
Yuji’s domain versus Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine
Comparing the two domains is useful only if confirmed facts are kept separate from interpretation. Sukuna’s domain has an official name, Malevolent Shrine. Yuji’s does not. Their narrative purposes also differ in the final confrontation: Sukuna’s technique is presented as a devastating area attack, while Yuji’s domain is read in relation to his attempt to reach the soul-level boundary separating Sukuna and Megumi.
| Comparison point | Yuji’s domain | Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine |
|---|---|---|
| Name status | No official name is supplied in the completed manga. “Benevolent Shrine” is fan terminology. | Officially named Malevolent Shrine. |
| Setting and presentation | Shown through a personal, hometown- and memory-linked environment in chapter 265. | Presented as Sukuna’s established domain technique in the Shinjuku battle. |
| Barrier information | The completed manga does not fully spell out Yuji’s barrier construction. | Its presentation is commonly discussed in terms of an open-barrier domain, but that distinction does not supply missing rules for Yuji’s technique. |
| Battle purpose | Read as supporting Yuji’s effort to affect the separation between Sukuna and Megumi. | Framed primarily as wide-area destructive pressure against opponents in its effective space. |
| Mechanical certainty | Activation is confirmed, while exact sure-hit wording, range and duration are not fully stated. | The technique’s identity and destructive function are established earlier and more extensively. |
This comparison does not establish a definitive domain-clash winner. The completed chapters do not provide a simple statement that Yuji’s domain overpowers, equals or cancels Malevolent Shrine in a conventional clash. Any such ranking requires assumptions beyond the explicit information supplied by the manga.

Is “Benevolent Shrine” Yuji’s official domain name?
No. “Benevolent Shrine” is a fan nickname. The completed manga never supplies an official name for Yuji’s Domain Expansion.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe nickname is understandable because Yuji’s domain is associated with Shrine imagery and because readers want a counterpart to Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine. It is still important to label it correctly. Use “Yuji’s unnamed domain” when discussing confirmed canon, and use “Benevolent Shrine” only with a note that it is fan terminology.
The absence of a name is not evidence that the technique is incomplete or non-canon. Domain names are useful labels, but the story can establish an activation and its narrative function without publishing a formal title.
What remains unknown about Yuji’s domain?
The manga’s deliberate ambiguity leaves several practical questions unanswered. These are not errors to fill with invented statistics; they are limits on what can responsibly be claimed.
- Official name: none is supplied by the completed manga.
- Sure-hit wording: no authoritative summary gives a complete sentence defining the sure-hit effect.
- Barrier construction: the finished story does not fully explain whether Yuji’s domain follows a conventional enclosed structure or another arrangement.
- Range and duration: no authoritative numerical values are provided for either.
- Independent performance: the reveal occurs in the Sukuna battle, so the manga does not establish a broad record of Yuji using the domain against several different opponents.
- Power ranking: there is no creator quotation or official statistic assigning Yuji’s domain a numerical rank against other domains.
These gaps do not weaken the confirmation that Yuji can use Domain Expansion. They simply define the boundary between what the panels show and what readers infer.
How the activation changes Yuji’s current ability profile
Before the reveal, Yuji is already a close-range fighter with late-series access to Blood Manipulation, Reverse Cursed Technique, Simple Domain training and repeated Black Flash use. The domain adds a new category of ability: a personal territory that lets Yuji force the confrontation into a space shaped by his identity and his connection to the conflict.

That change matters narratively as much as tactically. Yuji is no longer relying only on physical exchanges, healing, or bursts of exceptional timing. He can now impose a domain-level contest on the strongest opponent in the story. At the same time, the manga does not turn him into a fully documented domain specialist. His activation is confirmed, but the technique’s complete operating manual is not.
The safest description of Yuji’s current profile is therefore layered:
- He has a canon Domain Expansion.
- His late awakening is connected to Shrine and to his history with Sukuna.
- His other late-series techniques give him endurance, defensive preparation and additional ways to manipulate cursed energy.
- His domain’s exact technical parameters remain less explicit than those of several established domain users.
How to read the reveal without overstating it
When discussing Yuji’s domain, separate panel-level facts from interpretation. The following wording keeps the distinctions clear:
| Statement | Status | Careful wording |
|---|---|---|
| Yuji activates Domain Expansion. | Confirmed canon. | “Yuji activates his domain at the end of chapter 264.” |
| The domain has a personal setting. | Confirmed visual presentation. | “Chapter 265 continues in a hometown- and memory-linked environment.” |
| The domain is called Benevolent Shrine. | Fan label only. | “Some fans call it Benevolent Shrine, but the manga gives no official name.” |
| The sure-hit attack separates Sukuna and Megumi. | Interpretive mechanical reading. | “The decisive attack is widely read as targeting the boundary between Sukuna and Megumi.” |
| The domain has a specified range, duration or barrier type. | Not fully established. | “The completed manga does not provide a complete technical specification.” |
Where to read the relevant chapters
For the direct reveal, read chapters 264 and 265 together. Shueisha lists both chapters in volume 30, making that volume the straightforward physical reading route. VIZ’s official Jujutsu Kaisen franchise page is the safest licensed route for the manga and related official information.
Because these chapters occur during the final confrontation with Sukuna, readers should expect spoilers for the completed manga through chapter 271. The domain reveal cannot be separated from the story’s final conflict, Yuji’s late awakening and the consequences for Megumi.
Bottom line: can Yuji use Domain Expansion?
Yes. Yuji uses Domain Expansion for the first time at the end of chapter 264. Chapter 265 shows the associated hometown- and memory-linked setting, and the sequence frames the domain as part of Yuji’s attempt to reach the boundary between Sukuna and Megumi. The manga ends without naming the domain officially or fully explaining its sure-hit effect and barrier mechanics. “Benevolent Shrine” remains a fan nickname, not canon terminology.
