Active Matter launched on September 15, 2026, for Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. On PC, Steam’s minimum tier calls for an i5-6600 or Ryzen 3 1300X, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1050 Ti, RX 470, or Arc A580; both PC tiers require an SSD with 45 GB available and broadband internet. Matter Team’s console chart targets 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series S, and offers 60-FPS Performance and 30-FPS Fidelity RT targets on PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X. Those figures are developer-published targets, not independently measured results, and the listed console resolutions are upscaled.

What are the Active Matter system requirements?

For a quick PC check, compare your computer with Steam’s minimum tier to see whether it meets the published entry-level specification, or with the recommended tier for the higher published baseline. The tiers do not promise a particular frame rate on every PC. Matter Team’s separate chart gives more specific performance targets by preset and resolution, but those, too, are targets rather than benchmark results.

Steam lists Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), an SSD with 45 GB of available space, and broadband internet for both Windows tiers. The components Steam lists are:

Steam tier Operating system CPU RAM Graphics card alternatives Storage and network
Minimum Windows 10/11, 64-bit Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X 8 GB NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti, AMD RX 470, or Intel Arc A580 45 GB available on an SSD; broadband internet
Recommended Windows 10/11, 64-bit Intel Core i5-8700 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 16 GB NVIDIA RTX 2060, AMD RX 5700 XT, or Intel Arc A770 45 GB available on an SSD; broadband internet

These are the Windows requirements shown on Steam’s 2026 listing. The SSD requirement specifies available capacity, not a drive type or a particular total drive size. The listing does not say that NVMe storage is required. Likewise, broadband is listed as a requirement, but no minimum connection speed is stated in the published specification.

How should you use the minimum and recommended tiers?

Check the processor, graphics card, and memory as separate parts of your system rather than relying on a single label such as “gaming PC.” A system can meet one row’s memory requirement and still fall short of its listed CPU or GPU. Also confirm that the drive where you plan to install the game is an SSD and has at least 45 GB free; the figure is available space, not the game’s guaranteed final installed footprint under every update.

  • Minimum tier: Use this as the lowest listed component baseline, not as a promise of smooth play or a defined resolution and frame rate.
  • Recommended tier: This gives a higher baseline for CPU, GPU, and memory, but Steam does not attach a specific graphics preset or FPS guarantee to it.
  • Neither tier matches your system exactly: Compare the actual component model numbers with the listed alternatives. A similar-sounding model is not automatically equivalent, and the official material does not provide a conversion rule for unlisted hardware.

Steam also lists the game for Linux. Its minimum Linux requirement is “most modern 64-bit distributions,” with the same minimum CPU, RAM, GPU, SSD space, and network specification as the Windows minimum. For the recommended Linux tier, Steam names Ubuntu 26.04 64-bit and the same components as its recommended Windows tier. The listing and official FAQ confirm native Linux support; they do not publish a Linux-specific frame-rate target.

Why do Steam and Matter Team list different recommended Intel CPUs?

Steam’s recommended tier names a Core i5-8700, while Matter Team’s official 1080p Medium chart names a Core i7-8700. Both statements should be kept distinct: the published materials do not explain the mismatch.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The two listings also serve different purposes. Steam’s page presents minimum and recommended requirements, whereas the developer chart associates components with resolution and preset targets. The developer’s 1080p Medium row pairs the i7-8700 with a Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 2060, RX 5700 XT, or Arc A770 and 16 GB of DDR4. That chart is not a revision notice for Steam’s listing, so it would be misleading to silently change one CPU name to match the other.

If your processor is close to either listed model, treat the difference as uncertainty in the published guidance, not as evidence that the two CPUs are interchangeable. The official material does not establish how a particular unlisted processor performs.

What PC frame-rate targets does the developer publish?

Matter Team’s PC chart lists targets by resolution and graphics preset. “Above 30 FPS” and “above 60 FPS” are the chart’s target wording; they are not reported measurements from a controlled test, nor a guarantee of sustained frame rate for every system using the listed parts.

Ultra, 4K Above 60 FPS Intel Core i7-14700K or AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D NVIDIA RTX 5080 or AMD RX 9070 XT 32 GB DDR5

The chart does not name an Intel GPU for its Ultra rows. Matter Team also lists Windows 10/11 64-bit, a 45 GB SSD, ultrawide support, DLSS 4.0, frame generation, XeSS, and FSR. Listing these features does not establish that every GPU supports every upscaler, or that the FPS targets include generated frames. The chart does not attach a specific upscaler or frame-generation condition to each target.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is also a component-list caveat in the 1080p Ultra row: it places a Ryzen 5 5600X beside 16 GB DDR5. Do not treat that pairing as a verified shopping list or assume the parts work together. Check the CPU and motherboard’s memory compatibility before choosing components; the chart does not resolve that compatibility question.

What does a target tell you—and what does it not?

A target is useful as the developer’s stated expectation for the listed preset and hardware. It can help you distinguish the chart’s entry-level 1080p target from its higher-resolution Ultra configurations. It cannot tell you the exact frame rate you will see in a specific scene, the amount of variation during play, or whether a given PC will maintain that figure over time.

The official materials available here do not establish independently measured cross-platform FPS samples or frame-time statistics. They also do not show that every system meeting a tier will perform identically. For that reason, avoid reading “above 60 FPS” as a measured average, a minimum guaranteed frame rate, or a result that applies to a GPU outside the listed configuration.

What are the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S performance targets?

Matter Team’s 2026 console chart targets 60 FPS on base PS5, Xbox Series S, and the Performance presets on PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X. PS5 Pro and Series X also have a Fidelity RT preset with a 30-FPS target and specified ray-tracing effects. All the resolutions in the chart are upscaled rather than identified as native rendering resolutions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Console and preset Official resolution wording Published target Ray tracing
PlayStation 5 2160p upscaled 60 FPS No
PlayStation 5 Pro Performance 2160p upscaled using PSSR 60 FPS No
PlayStation 5 Pro Fidelity RT 2160p upscaled using PSSR 30 FPS RT shadows, ambient occlusion, and reflections
Xbox Series S 1440p upscaled 60 FPS No
Xbox Series X Performance 2160p upscaled 60 FPS No
Xbox Series X Fidelity RT 2160p upscaled 30 FPS RT shadows, ambient occlusion, and reflections

These are Matter Team’s published console targets, not captured frame-rate measurements. In particular, a “2160p upscaled” label should not be described as native 4K. The chart does not provide a measured comparison of frame pacing, image quality, or real-world FPS between consoles, so it does not support a claim that one platform is objectively smoother.

Is Active Matter native 4K on PS5 Pro or Series X?

The published wording is 2160p upscaled, including on PS5 Pro’s PSSR presets and Xbox Series X. The official chart does not call these modes native 4K. Its resolution label describes the upscaled output; it does not give a native rendering resolution for each mode.

Does Xbox Series S target 60 FPS?

Yes. Matter Team lists Xbox Series S at an upscaled 1440p resolution with a 60-FPS target and no ray tracing in that chart. This is a target, not a measured guarantee for every moment of play.

How should you choose between Performance and Fidelity RT?

On PS5 Pro and Series X, the chart distinguishes a 60-FPS Performance target without ray tracing from a 30-FPS Fidelity RT target with RT shadows, ambient occlusion, and reflections. Choose based on whether the higher frame-rate target or those listed RT effects matter more to you. The official figures do not establish which option will feel preferable to a particular player.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which platform should you choose?

If you already own a supported platform, the published specifications are a better starting point than buying hardware based on an assumed cross-platform performance ranking. The official material gives targets, but not matched tests that would justify declaring a PC, PS5, or Xbox version the smoothest.

  1. Start with hardware you already have. On PC, compare your actual CPU, GPU, memory, operating system, and drive with Steam’s requirements. On console, use the target chart for your exact model rather than applying Series X figures to Series S or PS5 Pro figures to base PS5.
  2. Decide which frame-rate target fits you. The listed console Performance targets are 60 FPS; PS5 Pro and Series X Fidelity RT targets are 30 FPS. On PC, use the developer chart as a target reference for its specific preset and hardware combinations.
  3. Consider resolution and effects together. The console chart lists upscaled 1440p for Series S and upscaled 2160p for the other consoles. The specified RT effects are limited to the PS5 Pro and Series X Fidelity RT rows.
  4. Do not infer a winner from unlike figures. The chart does not provide equivalent measured tests across platforms, and its PC targets are not a direct comparison with console measurements.

Does Active Matter support cross-play and cross-progression?

Cross-platform multiplayer is supported, but shared progression is narrower: the official FAQ says progress is shared between the Steam and Gaijin.Net PC versions, not between PC and console. Cross-play therefore does not mean that a PC save or progression will carry over to a console account.

The FAQ says console matchmaking can be restricted to the same platform, to consoles only, or to any platform. That gives console players options for the matchmaking pool; it does not alter the separate limitation on PC-to-console progression. The FAQ does not say that these settings create a shared cross-platform save.

What else should PC and console players know before installing?

The official FAQ names Dagor Engine, confirms that PC controllers are supported, and says the game works on Steam Deck. It does not publish a Steam Deck FPS guarantee. “Works” should not be expanded into a specific resolution, preset, or frame-rate expectation.

The game is sold for PC through Steam and the Gaijin Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Matter Team’s official launch announcement gives September 15, 2026, as the launch date. The console performance chart additionally separates PS5 Pro from base PS5, so the two should not be conflated when checking targets.

Do the editions change playable content?

The FAQ describes Standard, Advanced, and Deluxe editions as differing in starting gear and resources, while saying their playable content is otherwise identical. Digital soundtrack inclusion varies by edition and storefront. The material does not establish that every store’s edition bundle is identical, so check the specific storefront listing when deciding whether an included soundtrack matters.

What should you try if performance drops or the game stutters?

Developer patch notes document fixes for particular reported performance issues, but they do not establish a measured FPS uplift or prove that all stuttering is resolved. Treat the notes as evidence of fixes to specific cases, not as a universal performance guarantee.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Check for the updates associated with documented fixes

  • The September 17, 2026 update reported fixes for periodic performance drops and added a recovery system for video-driver resets.
  • Update 0.4.0.122 reported a fix for instances of performance drops when entering combat with film grain enabled.

If you encounter one of those symptoms, first confirm that the game is current and note whether the problem matches the specific case in the patch notes. If it continues, the published notes do not identify a single cause or provide a universal fix. The official performance material does not support promising that changing a particular setting or upgrading a particular component will resolve every case.

Separate a target mismatch from a documented issue

If your system falls below the listed PC tier, or uses hardware absent from the charts, the published targets may not describe your configuration. If your hardware matches a chart row but you still see drops, that does not turn the target into a benchmark guarantee; it means the official chart alone cannot diagnose the cause. The developer’s update notes are narrower: each reports a fix for specified behavior, not a measurement of performance on all PCs or consoles.

How to read the official figures without overclaiming

For a practical decision, keep three kinds of information separate. Steam’s minimum and recommended tiers are component requirements; Matter Team’s PC chart maps particular components to target presets and resolutions; and its console chart gives model-specific resolution, FPS, and ray-tracing targets. They answer related but not identical questions.

  • Use Steam’s table to check PC eligibility. It provides named CPU, RAM, GPU, operating system, SSD, and network requirements.
  • Use Matter Team’s PC table to understand its stated targets. Match the whole row—preset, resolution, CPU, GPU, and memory—rather than pulling one figure out of context.
  • Use the console chart for model and preset differences. It differentiates base PS5, PS5 Pro, Series S, and Series X, and explicitly marks upscaled resolutions.
  • Keep the source and qualification beside every number. The figures are publisher- or developer-published specifications from 2026, not independent measurements reported in the cited official material.

This distinction matters most when comparing a PC target such as Ultra at 4K with a console entry labeled 2160p upscaled. The PC chart and console chart do not establish equivalent rendering conditions, and the console label does not claim native 4K. Likewise, a console 60-FPS target and a PC “above 60 FPS” target are both targets, but they are not matched test results that can rank one platform above another.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Active Matter have an official Steam Deck frame-rate target?

No Steam Deck-specific FPS target is published in the official FAQ. It says the game works on Steam Deck, but that statement does not specify a guaranteed frame rate, resolution, or graphics preset.

Can I transfer Active Matter progress from a console to PC?

The official FAQ says shared progress applies between the Steam and Gaijin.Net PC versions, not between PC and console. Cross-play availability does not add cross-platform save transfer.

Does every Active Matter edition include the digital soundtrack?

No universal inclusion is established: the FAQ says soundtrack inclusion varies by edition and storefront. Check the exact edition listing at the store where you plan to buy it.

Does Active Matter require an NVMe SSD?

The published PC requirements call for an SSD with 45 GB available, but do not specify NVMe or another SSD interface. They also do not give a minimum broadband speed.
