Usually, no. Most makers advise using silicone, nylon, or wood rather than metal on their nonstick bakeware, because metal can scratch or damage the coating. Check the care instructions for your exact pan, though: guidance differs by product, and Nordic Ware specifically says marks from metal utensils do not affect the performance or safety of its Brilliant line.
Why metal utensils are usually discouraged
Metal tools can scratch, nick, or scuff a coated surface. Some manufacturers say that can damage the coating; Trudeau, for example, advises against metal utensils on its nonstick metal bakeware. That is a reason to follow your pan’s care instructions, not proof that every scratch on every nonstick pan makes it unsafe.
“Nonstick bakeware” is not a single product with one universal utensil rule. The cited makers give different instructions, so check the guidance for the specific pan or line rather than applying one brand’s exception to another.

The oven-temperature figures are product-specific examples, not a general limit for nonstick bakeware. Check the stated maximum for your own pan. The same applies to cleaning instructions and utensil rules.

Which utensils to use instead
For lifting or serving baked goods, reach for a silicone spatula or a nylon turner. Wood is another commonly recommended option. Calphalon also lists plastic. Choose a tool that suits the job and follow any temperature limits stated for the utensil itself.
Avoid cutting or slicing food directly in the pan. A sharp knife can scrape the coated surface; transfer the food to a cutting board first.

Can you use metal on a scratched nonstick pan?
Do not treat Nordic Ware’s statement about Brilliant as general permission for other pans. That maker says metal-related marks do not affect the performance or safety of Brilliant pans, while other cited manufacturers warn that metal can damage their coatings. The available product guidance does not establish a universal safety rule for every scratched or peeling coating. If the coating is visibly damaged, consult the pan’s manufacturer for advice on that specific product.

Yes. USA Pan says parchment can be used as a liner to help prevent sticking and make cleanup easier. It does not change the pan’s utensil instructions: use the recommended nonmetal tool rather than assuming a liner makes metal safe.

For a specific pan, compare its stated utensil rule, coating and construction, oven limit, and cleaning instructions. If the maker explicitly permits metal, keep that permission within the product line it names.
