That screen is Google Device Protection, an anti-theft ownership check, not the ordinary screen-lock prompt. Your legitimate options are to recover an eligible Google account or contact Samsung-authorized support with proof of purchase. Resetting the phone again will not remove the check.
First identify which account or lock the phone is asking for
“Unlock” can mean several different things. The next step depends on the exact prompt you see:
- Screen-lock PIN, pattern, or password: This is the lock used to open the phone. It is different from Google verification after a reset.
- Google account verification during setup after a reset: This is Google Device Protection, sometimes called FRP. Samsung says a Galaxy reset through the Recovery menu may require the Google account previously linked to the device. Google says verification can use an account previously added and synced to the phone; depending on the device and version, the previous screen-lock PIN, password, or pattern may also be requested. - Samsung account password during a reset started in Settings: This is a separate Samsung account credential. Samsung says it may be needed to complete an in-Settings reset when a Samsung account is on the device. It does not replace Google verification during setup after a reset. The sources available here cover Google verification after reset and Galaxy devices generally. They do not establish one account-free unlocking procedure for every Galaxy Note20 software version, ownership history, or region.
If setup is blocked by Google account verification
Try an account previously synced to this phone
Enter a Google account that was added and synced to the Note20 before it was reset. Google’s guidance says a previously added and synced account can be used to verify a protected device; an unrelated or newly created account is not a substitute. If you have used more than one Google account on the phone, try the eligible account you can access.

Recover the account if you cannot sign in
If you have forgotten the account details or password, use Google Account Recovery. A factory reset is not a shortcut around account recovery: it erases personal data stored on the phone, and setup may still require ownership verification. Google explains the reset and its data-erasure effect in its Android factory-reset guidance.
Wait if you recently changed the Google password
Google advises waiting 24 hours after a password change before performing a factory reset. Samsung also describes a 24-hour cooldown before a newly changed password may unlock the device. If you cannot recover the original Google account
Contact a Samsung-authorized service center and ask about assistance for a device that cannot complete Google verification. Samsung US says an owner who cannot remember Google account information can send the device, along with proof of purchase, to an authorized Samsung Service Center. Service procedures may vary by country, so check with Samsung support for your region: Samsung US: Google Device Protection.

Google Device Protection is designed to verify ownership after a reset. Samsung notes that a Recovery-menu reset can trigger a request for the Google account previously linked to the phone, while Google warns that a reset erases phone data. Repeating the reset therefore risks further data loss without resolving the account check. The official guidance cited here does not establish a legitimate account-free bypass for the Galaxy Note20. A repair tool or accessory cannot recover the previously linked account or satisfy ownership verification.
