Short answer: Full-game save data cannot move between the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of Final Fantasy Resonance in either direction. Square Enix documents only two save-migration exceptions: a PlayStation 4 demo save can move into the PlayStation 5 full game, and a Nintendo Switch demo save can move into the Nintendo Switch 2 full game.
DLC is a separate question. Nintendo lists a Digital Deluxe Upgrade, but the official information available does not say whether a purchased Resonance DLC entitlement transfers between console generations. Treat the save rules and DLC-licensing rules as independent checks before buying or changing platforms.
Transfer rules at a glance
The destination edition matters more than the console family name. Nintendo lists separate Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 products, and each edition expects its own compatible save format. Square Enix’s support material describes a narrow demo-to-full-game path, not a universal cross-generation migration system.

“Not documented” is deliberately different from “confirmed compatible.” If Square Enix adds a later migration method, rely on a new game-specific support notice rather than assuming that a console operating-system transfer or cloud backup will work.

Switch and Switch 2 full saves: the answer is no
Switch to Switch 2
Nintendo’s product information states: “It is not possible to carry save data from the Nintendo Switch™ version over to the Nintendo Switch™ 2 version.” That wording covers the full-game save file created by the Switch edition. It means a system transfer, a copied microSD card, or a Nintendo cloud save should not be treated as a way to continue the same Resonance campaign in the Switch 2 product.
The editions are separate products, so installing the Switch 2 software does not make it a reader for the Switch edition’s save structure. You may still retain the old save on the original Switch, but it remains tied to that edition unless Square Enix publishes a specific conversion tool or update.
Switch 2 to Switch
The reverse direction is also explicitly blocked. Nintendo says: “It is not possible to carry save data from the Nintendo Switch™ 2 version over to the Nintendo Switch™ version.” A Switch 2 playthrough therefore cannot be rolled back into the older Switch edition as a playable save.

Decide which edition will be your primary version before committing significant play time.
What the restriction does not mean
- It does not erase the original save from the console where it was created.
- It does not say that your Nintendo Account is invalid on the other system.
- It does not establish a DLC-repurchase requirement; save compatibility and licensing are separate issues.
- It does not turn the Switch demo exception into a full-game save exception.
The two documented demo-to-full-game exceptions
PlayStation 4 demo to PlayStation 5 full game
Square Enix support says that progress can transfer from the PlayStation 4 demo to the PlayStation 5 full game. The supported move is therefore a demo save crossing generations and becoming usable in the newer full release. It is not described as a mechanism for moving a completed PS4 full-game save into the PS5 edition.

Before deleting the demo, keep its save on the PS4 system or in the applicable PlayStation storage location until the PS5 game recognizes it. Follow the on-screen import prompt or Square Enix’s current platform instructions; the support statement confirms the destination relationship but does not provide a universal button sequence in the material available here.
Nintendo Switch demo to Nintendo Switch 2 full game
The same limited pattern applies to Nintendo hardware: Square Enix documents transfer from the Nintendo Switch demo to the Nintendo Switch 2 full game. This is useful if you sampled the game on Switch and then purchase the newer edition, but it does not make a Switch full-game save compatible with Switch 2.

Keep the demo installed, or preserve its save data, until the Switch 2 edition has completed its import. If no import prompt appears, do not overwrite or remove the source save while you check the game’s support instructions and confirm that the demo and full game are from the same supported region and account environment.
Why the demo exception is easy to misunderstand
Demo progression is usually designed as a handoff into a particular full release. That is a narrower relationship than cross-generation cross-save. Square Enix’s wording identifies the two supported demo paths and then says that no cross-platform data-transfer option exists for other platforms. Read the exception as a pair of specific bridges, not as evidence that all editions share a save format.
PlayStation, Xbox and PC combinations
Square Enix’s general FAQ gives the broad rule: “No. There is no cross-save functionality across different platforms.” The support article similarly says that, outside the PS4-demo-to-PS5-full-game and Switch-demo-to-Switch-2-full-game paths, other cross-platform combinations have no transfer option.

That rules out treating a PlayStation save as interchangeable with an Xbox or PC save. It also means that signing into the same Square Enix account, where an account is available, should not be assumed to synchronize campaign progress. Account identity, purchase history, achievements and save files are different data categories.
If you are moving between platforms, plan on beginning a new Resonance save unless a current Square Enix notice names your exact source, destination and save type. A same-brand console upgrade is not automatically supported, and a same-generation move between different platform families is not supported by the published FAQ.
DLC transfer is unresolved, not confirmed
What is established
Nintendo lists a separate Digital Deluxe Upgrade for Resonance. The Nintendo listing gives a regular price of $14.99 and identifies October 22, 2026 as the Switch 2 edition’s release date. Both figures are time-sensitive retail information: the price can change, and regional listings can differ, so verify the current store page before purchase.
The available Nintendo and Square Enix statements do not explain whether a purchased Resonance DLC entitlement moves from the Switch edition to the Switch 2 edition, from PS4 to PS5, or between unrelated platforms. They also do not establish whether an upgrade is a one-time account entitlement, a platform-store license, or a separate purchase for each edition.
Why you should not infer DLC behavior from save behavior
A save file is game data. DLC entitlement is a license checked by a platform store and the game. The fact that Nintendo blocks full saves in both directions does not prove that DLC must be bought again, just as the demo-transfer exception does not prove that a Deluxe Upgrade follows you to the newer edition.

Do not rely on a generic console-transfer wizard, a cloud backup, or ownership of the base game to answer the DLC question. Those tools may move account data or software licenses without granting a separate edition’s add-on content.
What to verify before buying
- Whether the Digital Deluxe Upgrade is listed for the exact edition you intend to play.
- Whether the store region on your account matches the region of the game card or digital purchase.
- Whether the listing describes a cross-generation entitlement, an upgrade entitlement, or only content for one product.
- Whether Square Enix support has published a Resonance-specific statement for your source and destination consoles.
- Whether the price shown is current, rather than the $14.99 figure previously listed for the Digital Deluxe Upgrade.
If you shop through a retailer, a search such as Final Fantasy Resonance Nintendo Switch 2 can help locate the intended product, but inspect the listing itself. Confirm the platform label, edition, region, release timing and included DLC before paying. Do not assume that a product title mentioning Switch 2 includes the older edition or transfers an earlier Deluxe Upgrade.
Choosing an edition before you start
Use the Switch edition you plan to keep
If your priority is preserving a full-game campaign, choose either the Switch or Switch 2 edition as your long-term home. The official two-way incompatibility means that buying both does not create a shared save. A second console can be useful for a separate playthrough, but it should not be treated as a continuation device.
Use the demo as a low-risk test
The demo routes are the only documented save handoffs. If you are deciding between generations, playing the demo on the source platform can preserve a limited amount of progress for the supported destination full game. Keep expectations narrow: the documented paths cover demo progress only and name the exact platform pair.
Separate your purchase decisions
Make two independent decisions: first, which edition will hold your save; second, whether the Deluxe Upgrade is worth buying for that edition. Until Square Enix or Nintendo explains entitlement portability, price the DLC as if its destination coverage still needs confirmation rather than promising yourself a future transfer.

Migration checklist
- Identify the source software. Write down the platform, edition and whether the progress is from the demo or full game.
- Identify the destination software. Note the exact console generation and edition, not only the console family.
- Match the pair against the published exceptions. The documented supported combinations are PS4 demo to PS5 full game and Switch demo to Switch 2 full game.
- Preserve the source save. Do not delete the demo or reset the original console until the destination game has recognized the transfer.
- Check region and account details. A region mismatch or different store account can prevent an otherwise supported import from appearing.
- Handle DLC separately. Check the current store listing and obtain a Resonance-specific answer from Square Enix for any generation change.
- Keep proof of purchase. Save the receipt and product identifier while entitlement behavior remains undocumented.
Troubleshooting when an expected import is missing
The source is a full-game save
Recheck the save type first. A full Switch save cannot move to Switch 2, and the PS4-to-PS5 exception is for demo progress. If the source is a completed full game, a missing import prompt is consistent with the published rules rather than evidence that the file is damaged.
The source is a supported demo
Confirm that the destination is the matching full-game platform named by Square Enix: PS4 demo to PS5 full game, or Switch demo to Switch 2 full game. Keep the original demo save available, launch the destination edition with the same relevant user or account, and follow any import prompt. If the prompt remains absent, contact Square Enix support with the platform, edition, region, demo version and purchase details.
The question concerns DLC rather than saves
Do not troubleshoot DLC as though it were a corrupted save. Check the platform store’s ownership page for the exact edition, then ask Square Enix whether the entitlement is recognized on the destination generation. The currently documented material does not answer that question, so a support confirmation is more reliable than a generic system-transfer result.
What to expect going forward
Save compatibility can change only through a game update, a new edition policy or a published migration tool. Until such a notice appears, the safe planning assumption is one full-game save per edition, with only the two documented demo handoffs available. DLC should remain a separate verification step because no official Resonance-specific transfer rule has been stated for it.
When Nintendo or Square Enix updates its product or support pages, compare the wording against your exact source and destination. Look for explicit terms such as “full game,” “demo,” “Switch 2 edition,” “PS5 full game” and “cross-save.” A general statement about account access or cloud storage is not enough to establish save migration or DLC portability.
