Trades with other players can also be cross-realm or cross-faction when the game’s trading systems allow them. WoW Classic has different restrictions, and Warband Bank gold is not counted when buying a WoW Token from the character-select screen.
Move gold between your own Modern WoW characters
Use the Warband Bank to transfer gold between your Warband characters. Blizzard describes the bank as a way for Warband characters to deposit and withdraw items, and specifically supports manually depositing and withdrawing gold. Blizzard’s Warbands preview explains the feature.
- Log in with the character holding the gold and open the Warband Bank.
- Deposit the gold into the Warband Bank.
- Log in with the intended Warband character and withdraw the gold.
This is the direct method for sending gold to your own alt; it is separate from mailing gold or paying for a character transfer.
Trade gold with another player across realms or factions
Blizzard Support’s surfaced clarification says that trades within Modern WoW’s in-game systems, including cross-realm and cross-faction trades, are allowed. The trade must be available through the game’s own trading systems; do not assume that the same permission applies to every version of WoW. Read the Blizzard Support clarification on the official forum.

WoW Classic has different trading rules
Do not apply Modern WoW’s cross-realm and cross-faction policy to Classic. The same Blizzard Support clarification says trades across WoW Classic realms or factions are prohibited, as are trades between different game versions, such as Modern WoW and Classic. Check the current guidance for your specific Classic edition before attempting a transfer.
Warband Bank gold does not count for a character-select WoW Token purchase
When buying a WoW Token through the character-select-screen purchase flow, gold in the Warband Bank is not included in the system’s calculation. Keep the needed gold on the relevant realm, on a character or in mail, instead. Blizzard’s Token guidance also says Tokens cannot be traded, mailed, or banked. A paid Character Transfer is a separate service
A paid Character Transfer is not the way to move gold between characters; it moves a character. Blizzard sets a gold limit for transfers based on character level, and a character above its applicable limit cannot be transferred. Consult Blizzard’s Character Transfer support page for the current limit that applies to your character.
