Not directly. YouTube’s RSS feature imports selected podcast episodes as videos; it does not feed a private podcast RSS URL into a live broadcast. To play an episode during a YouTube Live event, send its audio and compatible video through a live encoder workflow. YouTube’s published setup guidance does not confirm whether its RSS importer accepts password-protected or otherwise authenticated feeds.
RSS episode uploads and YouTube Live are different workflows
| RSS episode ingestion | Live encoder broadcast | |
|---|---|---|
| Input | Podcast RSS URL and selected episodes | An incoming audio/video stream sent to YouTube |
| Output | Episode videos and a podcast playlist | A viewer-facing live event |
| Privacy | Episodes are initially uploaded as private; visibility can be set for new uploads. After publishing the podcast, episodes are public by default unless visibility is changed. YouTube Help: Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed | Broadcasts can be public, private, or unlisted. Private is limited to invited viewers; anyone with an unlisted link can watch. YouTube Live Streaming API overview |
| Feed access | You verify ownership with a code sent to the email address in the feed. YouTube’s instructions do not establish whether authenticated feeds are supported. YouTube Help: Publish or disconnect episodes from an RSS feed on YouTube | YouTube does not pull the RSS feed for this workflow; you send audio and video through the live workflow. |
| Availability and key risk | RSS delivery is available only in listed countries or regions. Check YouTube’s current RSS delivery locations | Third-party content matches may prompt a warning, interruption, or termination. |
YouTube describes RSS as a way to create episode videos from the feed, while its Live API describes an incoming stream associated with a broadcast. These are not interchangeable inputs.
Choose the workflow that matches your goal
For a podcast playlist on YouTube
Use YouTube Studio’s RSS delivery feature if your channel owner’s location is eligible and you can complete setup and ownership verification. YouTube creates videos using the podcast’s show art for episodes you select, and can automatically upload later episodes. This publishes episodes as videos, not as a live event.
If your goal is to make episodes available only to a restricted audience, review each episode’s visibility settings and the podcast’s publishing behavior before publishing. Initial uploads are private, but after the podcast is published, episodes are public by default unless you change visibility.

Can YouTube pull from an authenticated private RSS feed?
The official RSS setup instructions require ownership verification with a code sent to the email address in the feed. They do not say whether YouTube accepts password-protected URLs, tokenized URLs, or other authenticated feeds. Treat compatibility as unconfirmed; check with YouTube or your podcast host before relying on direct RSS import. This open question does not change the live workflow: RSS ingestion creates episode videos, while a live broadcast receives an incoming audio/video stream.
Check rights before playing an episode live
A private or unlisted audience does not exempt a stream from YouTube’s live copyright matching. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
