Possibly—but whether these two DDR5 registered DIMMs can be repaired depends on what failed, whether a technician can identify it, and whether the modules pass validation afterward. First identify the exact part numbers and check the seller’s or manufacturer’s warranty/RMA route. If you replace them, match the replacement to the exact server or workstation; “DDR5” by itself does not establish compatibility.

Why a DDR5 RDIMM can fail in more than one way

A registered DIMM (RDIMM) is a board assembly, not just a row of memory chips. Along with DRAM, it may contain a registered clock driver (RCD), power management IC (PMIC), SPD hub, temperature sensors and supporting components. A fault can involve a memory device, power delivery, module identification, clocking, a passive component or the PCB itself. The failed system symptom alone may not reveal which part is at fault.

Micron describes an RDIMM as using a register to buffer communication between RAM chips and the memory controller, improving signal integrity and enabling higher memory capacity and stability in server systems. Micron’s RDIMM overview explains the registered design and its intended system context.

What to do before authorizing repair

Identify the modules and document the symptom

  • Photograph both sides of each module and its label; record the manufacturer, full part number and serial number.
  • Keep the purchase receipt and note the purchase date and seller.
  • Record the host system’s make and model, the slot locations, error messages, event logs and any memory-test results.

If the concern is an ECC alert, an error does not by itself prove that a particular DIMM is defective. Intel’s server guidance frames decisions around error frequency and impact on the system, so use the system logs and diagnostic procedure to establish whether the fault follows a module or has another cause. Check warranty or RMA first

Contact the original seller or the module maker with the label details and proof of purchase before permitting third-party board rework. Whether these sticks are covered cannot be determined without their make, purchase details, jurisdiction and damage history. A third-party repair may also affect warranty options, so ask the seller or manufacturer about the consequences before proceeding.

Get a written specialist diagnosis

At the time of its October 2026 price listing, ResolderWorks advertised DDR5 RDIMM diagnostics and component-level work that includes SPD hub recovery, PMIC and DRAM replacement, RCD replacement, passive-component work and PCB repair. These are the provider’s own service claims, not an independent assessment of its quality or a guarantee that either of these modules is repairable. Ask for the diagnosis, test method, post-repair validation and repair guarantee in writing. Confirm shipping, customs and return costs for your location. ResolderWorks DDR5 RDIMM repair service.

Repair or replace: compare the actual options

There is no source-supported universal price threshold for choosing repair over replacement. Compare the written diagnosis and quote with the cost and lead time of a compatible replacement, the repair guarantee, any warranty implications and the system downtime. A repair quote is meaningful only after the failed component and the post-repair test plan are clear.

Option What to establish
Specialist repair Confirmed fault location, itemized quote, whether parts are included, diagnostic and validation methods, repair guarantee, shipping and customs costs.
Compatible replacement Exact supported RDIMM type and specifications for the system, total replacement cost and availability, and expected downtime.

ResolderWorks’ October 2026 listing gives a $14 diagnostic fee per module and labor starting at $10. Its listed reference labor prices include $38 for PMIC/SPD replacement and $63 for DRAM/RCD replacement. Parts may cost extra, and the provider says the final cost depends on diagnosis; these are dated provider prices, not a market average or a guaranteed quote. ResolderWorks repair pricing.

How to choose a replacement that will work

Registered memory must be supported by the host platform. Kingston warns that mixing DIMM types may cause a system not to boot, while Micron describes RDIMMs as intended for systems that support registered memory. Check the exact server or workstation documentation—not just the memory generation—before buying.

  • Confirm the supported registered DIMM type and ECC requirements.
  • Match capacity, speed, rank and organization to the platform’s supported configurations.
  • Check the permitted module count, slot population order and any system-vendor restrictions.

Kingston’s server memory guidance discusses memory types and compatibility considerations. Micron’s RDIMM overview describes the RDIMM category. Without the failed modules’ labels and the host-system model, a compatible replacement SKU cannot be named.
