No. Gran Turismo Sport is a PlayStation 4 game, while RPCS3 emulates PlayStation 3 software. RPCS3 therefore cannot load a Gran Turismo Sport disc, download, or game dump. The supported way to play Gran Turismo Sport is on PlayStation 4 with a legitimate PS4 copy. If you were looking for a Gran Turismo game that RPCS3 can handle, you need a PlayStation 3 title and the corresponding official PS3 firmware instead.
The compatibility issue in one sentence
Gran Turismo Sport and RPCS3 belong to different console generations. Sony lists Gran Turismo Sport’s compatibility as “PlayStation®4,” with Blu-ray Disc and download editions. RPCS3’s own FAQ describes it as “an open-source Sony PlayStation 3 emulator for Windows and Linux.” An emulator does not automatically support every PlayStation product; it reproduces the hardware and operating-system behavior of one target platform. A PlayStation 3 emulator cannot provide the PlayStation 4 environment that Gran Turismo Sport requires.
This is why the game does not appear in RPCS3’s game list and why adding a PS4 file to RPCS3 will not make it boot. The problem is not a missing setting, a graphics option, or an underpowered PC. It is a platform mismatch.

What you need to play Gran Turismo Sport legitimately
PlayStation 4 hardware
You need a working PlayStation 4 console. The game was not released as a PlayStation 3 title, so a PS3 console and RPCS3 cannot substitute for the PS4 hardware.
A PS4 copy of the game
Use either a legitimate Gran Turismo Sport PS4 Blu-ray Disc or a digital copy associated with a PlayStation account. Sony’s product information lists both disc and download formats, including the PlayStation Hits and Spec II editions. A PS4 disc is not an RPCS3-compatible file or license; it is media intended for a PS4’s optical drive.
Storage headroom
Sony’s product page lists storage figures of over 60 GB for PlayStation Hits and over 110 GB for Spec II. Treat those as edition-specific figures from the product listing, not a universal PC requirement. Before installing on a PS4, leave additional free space for system files, patches, and saved data rather than planning to fill the drive to the listed number.

How to install and start the game on PS4
- Confirm the edition. Check that the case, store listing, or account library identifies the PS4 version of Gran Turismo Sport. Do not buy a similarly named product expecting it to run in RPCS3.
- Prepare the console. Start the PS4, sign in to the account that owns the digital license if you are using a download, and make sure the console has enough free storage for the edition and its updates.
- Install from the correct source. Insert the legitimate Blu-ray Disc and follow the PS4 installation prompts, or select the game in the account’s library and begin the digital download.
- Allow the installation to finish. The console may copy data from the disc or download a large package before the title is ready. Do not remove the disc if the disc edition requires it as a license check.
- Launch from the PS4 home screen. Start Gran Turismo Sport directly on the console. Nothing needs to be configured in RPCS3.
If your goal is specifically to see the game running on a computer monitor, the supported game platform is still the PS4. You can connect the console to a monitor or television that accepts its video output, but that does not turn the game into a PC application or make it compatible with RPCS3.
What changed when Gran Turismo Sport’s online service ended
Sony announced that the online services for the PlayStation 4-exclusive Gran Turismo Sport ended on January 31, 2024, at 06:00 UTC. This shutdown affects network-dependent features, not the game’s basic offline installation.

These service changes do not create an opening for RPCS3. Emulating a PS3 would not restore PS4 online services, and no official documentation establishes a supported PC port or PS4 emulator for Gran Turismo Sport.

Why common RPCS3 fixes cannot solve this case
Changing the game folder
RPCS3 expects PlayStation 3 software in formats it can identify. Renaming a PS4 folder, changing an extension, or placing the files in a different directory does not convert the executable code or operating-system calls to PS3 equivalents.

Installing PS3 firmware
RPCS3’s firmware step is real, but it is for the emulator’s PlayStation 3 environment. Installing the official PS3UPDAT.PUP file may allow RPCS3 to run supported PS3 software; it cannot supply PlayStation 4 firmware or make a PS4 game compatible.
Changing graphics settings
Renderer choices, resolution settings, and patches can address problems in a game that already belongs to the emulator’s supported platform. They cannot bridge the PS3-to-PS4 generation gap.

Using a PS4 disc in a PC drive
A computer’s Blu-ray drive cannot make a PS4 disc an RPCS3 game. The disc is licensed and authored for PlayStation 4 software, while RPCS3 is designed for PlayStation 3 software.
If you actually meant a PlayStation 3 Gran Turismo game
Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6, for example, are PlayStation 3-era titles, whereas Gran Turismo Sport is not. If your intended game is a PS3 release, use RPCS3’s own documentation and compatibility information rather than treating it as Gran Turismo Sport.
- Identify the exact PS3 title and region. The name, product code, and edition matter when checking compatibility.
- Obtain the game legitimately. Use software you own and are entitled to use. Do not download unauthorized ISOs, decryption keys, or modified packages.
- Install RPCS3 from its official project distribution. Select the build for your operating system and follow the project’s Quickstart instructions.
- Install official PS3 firmware. RPCS3 documentation directs users to install the official PS3UPDAT.PUP firmware file. Follow the documented firmware menu and wait for the installation to complete.
- Check the compatibility database for that specific game. Compatibility is reported per PS3 title and can vary by version, so do not infer support from another Gran Turismo entry.
- Install or add the PS3 game using the format described in the Quickstart. Keep the original game identity and region information intact so RPCS3 can match it correctly.
- Apply only documented fixes. If the compatibility page lists required settings, use those settings exactly; otherwise, changing options at random can make diagnosis harder.
Those steps are appropriate for a PS3 game. They are not an alternate installation method for Gran Turismo Sport.

Troubleshooting the symptoms readers commonly report
“Gran Turismo Sport does not show up in RPCS3.”
That is the expected result. Verify the title and platform: Gran Turismo Sport is PS4, and RPCS3 is PS3. No library refresh or path change will alter that classification.
“RPCS3 reports that the file is invalid.”
A PS4 package is outside RPCS3’s supported software model. Do not try to repair it by downloading replacement files from unofficial sources. Confirm whether you intended to install a PS3 game instead.
“I installed PS3UPDAT.PUP, but Gran Turismo Sport still will not start.”
The firmware installation may be correct and the game may still be incompatible because firmware does not change the emulator’s target generation. Use the firmware only with a supported PS3 title.
“The game starts on PS4 but online menus fail.”
Online services ended on January 31, 2024 at 06:00 UTC. Community, Open Lobby, Sport Mode, custom-livery sharing, and other server-dependent functions are no longer available. Test the offline portions instead; Sony says those and purchased add-ons remain playable.
“I bought a PS4 Blu-ray and expected it to work on my PC.”
The disc is the correct physical product for a PS4, not for RPCS3. Use it in a PlayStation 4 console. A disc’s presence does not imply Windows or a PS3 emulator can execute its software.

If you want to use RPCS3 on a computer, choose a genuine PlayStation 3 title, install the official firmware, and verify that title in RPCS3’s compatibility database.
