A separate native PC port of the original Nintendo 64 game is available for Windows and Linux, including Steam Deck, but its documentation does not describe a selectable third-person camera. These are two distinct projects, so the third-person feature should not be attributed to the native port.
What “third-person GoldenEye on PC” means
The clearest documented third-person gameplay feature belongs to GoldenEye 007 Plus, a community modification. Its project repository describes third-person gameplay, adjustable camera settings and crosshair tuning. The cited development tree was refreshed through internal checkpoint V90 on September 28, 2026. That is a dated development snapshot, not confirmation of a finished, publicly installable PC release or independent verification of how the camera behaves.

Separately, a native PC port reconstructs the 1997 Nintendo 64 game. Its README mentions positioning Bond’s model in third person, but that refers to the rendered player character; it does not document a selectable third-person gameplay camera. Calling that port a third-person version would confuse model rendering with the camera mode.
The two projects at a glance
| Project | What it is | Third-person gameplay | PC availability and prerequisites | Documented maturity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GoldenEye 007 Plus | A community modification of GoldenEye 007. | Repository documentation describes third-person gameplay with adjustable camera and crosshair tuning. | A reproducible end-user PC build, installation steps, supported operating systems and ROM requirements are not stated in the reviewed project page. | R22-derived development tree through internal checkpoint V90, dated September 28, 2026; this does not establish a finished release. |
| Native GoldenEye PC port | A native PC port compiled from reconstructed source for the 1997 N64 game. | No selectable third-person gameplay camera is documented. The README’s third-person reference concerns Bond’s model positioning. | Windows and Linux x86-64 bundles, with Linux support including Steam Deck. Requires a user-supplied supported NTSC-U ROM in .z64 format. | Version 0.4.0, released September 28, 2026; pre-1.0. The project README reports all 20 solo missions playable end to end at a steady 60 fps. |
What the native PC port offers—and what it requires
The native port’s README identifies version 0.4.0, released September 28, 2026, as pre-1.0. The project reports that all 20 single-player missions can be completed from start to finish at a steady 60 fps. Those are project-reported status claims, not results from independent performance testing.
To run it, you must provide your own supported NTSC-U (US) Nintendo 64 ROM as a .z64 file in the data folder specified by the port’s README, then launch the executable. The project says it does not bundle the ROM or game assets. PAL and Japanese ROM support are listed as roadmap items, not supported versions for this release. Use only game files you are legally entitled to use; the project is not a source for obtaining a ROM.
Controls include keyboard and mouse, as well as a modern dual-stick controller layout. A compatible USB PC game controller is optional if you prefer sticks; the README says rumble-pak vibration works with supported pads but does not name a tested retail model.

What is and is not established about GoldenEye 007 Plus
The Plus repository describes third-person gameplay alongside adjustable camera and crosshair tuning, cutscene handoff fixes, and work aligning projectiles, beams and tracers. Those details indicate that third-person behavior is part of the mod’s development, but the repository snapshot does not provide an end-user PC release route, installation instructions, supported PC operating systems or exact camera options. Without those details, it is not possible to give reliable PC installation steps or promise that a typical player can launch it now.

The GoldenEye Depot lists GoldenEye 007 as a 1997 Nintendo 64 release with 20 single-player levels and multiplayer for two to four players. It records a decompilation milestone on August 17, 2026. This background helps explain the native port’s source-reconstruction approach; it does not make the Plus modification and the port the same project.
