Samsung’s reviewed guidance does not show a way to lock one selected text message in the regular Galaxy messaging inbox. You can put a separate copy of a messaging app in Secure Folder and protect that folder with a lock, but that protects the folder—not a single message—and Samsung’s instructions do not explain how to move an existing SMS conversation into the copy.
What Secure Folder can—and cannot—protect
Secure Folder is a separate protected area for apps and private data. Samsung’s UK guide says it can be protected with a PIN, password, pattern or biometric access on supported devices, using Samsung Knox: Samsung’s Secure Folder guide.
Adding a messaging app creates an independent copy. Samsung says, “Apps added to Secure Folder work independently from the versions outside the folder. This means you can use separate accounts, settings and data without affecting the original app on your device.” Samsung Canada’s Secure Folder instructions do not describe transferring a selected SMS thread from the regular inbox into that copy. Do not assume your existing conversations will appear there automatically.

How to add a messaging app to Secure Folder
- On your Galaxy, open Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings > Secure Folder. Samsung Canada lists this path, but labels can differ by device and software. If it does not match, search Settings for “Secure Folder.” If the feature is absent, your phone may not support it.
- Follow the setup prompts and choose a PIN, password or pattern. Samsung’s UK guide says setup requires a Samsung account; it also notes that some older models may no longer support Secure Folder.
- Open Secure Folder, tap Add apps, and add the messaging app if it is available. This creates an independent app copy with its own data and settings; it does not, by itself, move a conversation from the original app.
- Review Secure Folder’s notification and auto-lock settings. Samsung Canada notes that apps in Secure Folder can be allowed to show notifications while the folder is locked, so check whether message previews appear on your device.
Check device and notification behavior
Secure Folder is not available on every Galaxy model, and both the menu path and feature behavior vary by model and software version. Samsung Saudi Arabia cautions that “Available features may vary depending on device and software version.” Samsung Saudi Arabia’s Secure Folder guide explains that availability is device-dependent.

Hiding the Secure Folder icon can make the folder less visible in the app list, but it does not establish that message previews or other notifications are suppressed. Check notification settings on your phone rather than treating a hidden icon as a complete privacy measure.
