Usually, a Community Guidelines warning by itself does not automatically block a YouTube channel from livestreaming. YouTube’s general eligibility rule requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. A strike or a separate live-stream restriction can disable access, so check the notice on your own channel in YouTube Studio before scheduling a stream.
Does a warning stop you from going live?
Not necessarily. YouTube distinguishes a Community Guidelines warning from an active livestream restriction. The warning label alone does not establish whether your channel currently has live access; the restriction shown for your account is what matters.
YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. A strike or a policy-based enforcement action can restrict livestreaming, including a strike related to an active or archived livestream. Check the specific notification in YouTube Studio rather than assuming either that a warning blocks you or that it has no effect.
How to check your channel’s live access
- Open YouTube Studio and review the channel’s policy or violations notices, including the Channel violations card.
- Read the full notice. Look for whether it says warning, strike, or livestream restriction, and whether it gives an end date or other instructions.
- Check live-stream eligibility. Confirm the channel is verified and that YouTube Studio does not show an active live restriction.
- If the status is unclear, follow the notice’s account-specific instructions or use YouTube’s official live-streaming help page. Public policy guidance cannot reveal the private status of an individual channel.
Warning, training, strike, and restriction: what is the difference?
Warning
YouTube says a first Community Guidelines violation is typically a warning. Some warnings offer optional policy training, but training is not available for every warning. If training is offered and completed, the warning expires 90 days after completion.

Repeat violation
If YouTube finds the same policy violation within that 90-day period, the warning may not expire and the channel may receive a strike. A different policy violation after training may result in another warning. See YouTube’s Community Guidelines warning and strike guidance for the applicable details.
Strike or live restriction
A strike can include a temporary posting penalty that stops livestreaming. YouTube also says a strike on an active or archived livestream may disable live access. A separate policy enforcement may restrict live access as well; the exact status and duration for your account should be in its YouTube Studio notice.

What to do if you think the warning or strike is wrong
YouTube says warnings and strikes can be appealed within six months of issuance through the Channel violations card in YouTube Studio. Review the notice, choose the appeal option if available, and explain clearly why you believe the decision is mistaken. Deleting the content does not clear a strike. YouTube’s appeal guidance explains the process.
Do not use another channel to get around a restriction
If YouTube has restricted your livestream access, do not stream from another channel to bypass that restriction. YouTube prohibits using another channel to livestream while the restriction is active, and circumvention can lead to account termination. Wait until the restriction ends or pursue the appeal route described in your notice.
