The restriction depends on the enforcement YouTube applied: a first general strike carries a one-week restriction on uploads and live streams, while a strike tied to a restricted live stream can block live streaming for 14 days. Check the notice and your YouTube Studio status for the rule and timeline that apply to your channel.
What deleting the video changes—and what it does not
YouTube Help states, “Deleting your content doesn’t remove a strike.” Deletion is not a way to clear the enforcement or regain live access. YouTube also says deleting the video removes the opportunity to appeal that video or strike. If you think the decision was mistaken, do not delete the video as a workaround; use the appeal option in YouTube Studio instead. YouTube Help: Community Guidelines strike basics
Which waiting period applies?
YouTube describes different periods for different enforcement contexts. They are not interchangeable: identify what kind of notice you received and check your channel status rather than assuming one duration applies to every strike.
| Situation | What YouTube says | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| First general Community Guidelines strike | The channel cannot upload videos or live stream for one week from the time the strike is acknowledged. YouTube says those privileges are restored automatically after that week; the strike remains on the channel for 90 days. | The strike notice and the date you acknowledged it. YouTube Help: strike basics |
| Strike associated with a restricted live stream | YouTube says a strike will prevent live streaming for 14 days. | The live-stream restriction notice and Studio status. YouTube Help: live streaming tips |
| Baseline live-stream eligibility | YouTube’s live-stream tips require a verified channel and no live-stream restrictions in the past 90 days. | Verification and the channel’s restriction status. This 90-day eligibility condition is not a promise that deleting content clears a restriction or that every account’s restoration date is the same. YouTube Help: live streaming tips |
Because these rules describe distinct contexts, do not add the periods together or substitute one for another. Your signed-in YouTube Studio and the notice on your channel are the best guides to whether a restriction remains active; public help pages cannot determine the status of an individual account.

How to check your channel and appeal a strike
Check the active restriction
- Sign in to YouTube Studio with the affected channel.
- Review the notification or enforcement notice and note whether it identifies a Community Guidelines strike, a live-stream restriction, or another issue.
- Open the Studio Dashboard and look for the Channel violations card. Review its status and any available actions before attempting to stream.
Appeal if you believe the strike is wrong
- In YouTube Studio, open Dashboard and select the Channel violations card.
- Select Appeal and follow the on-screen steps. YouTube allows an appeal within six months of issuance, and each strike may be appealed only once.
- Wait for YouTube’s decision. If it grants the appeal, YouTube says it will reinstate compliant content and remove the strike; otherwise, the strike remains.
See YouTube Help’s appeal instructions for the current process. Deleting the video does not resolve a strike and can remove your chance to appeal it.
If live access is still blocked
A Community Guidelines strike is not the only possible reason for a live-stream restriction. YouTube lists stream removals and other policy issues, including copyright matches with another live broadcast, certain minor-safety situations, and streams involving someone holding, handling, or transporting a firearm. YouTube may also restrict live-stream access at its discretion. The restriction notice matters because these issues do not necessarily share the same duration. - Read the exact notice in Studio; do not infer the cause from a deleted video alone.
- Do not use another channel to evade an active live-stream restriction. YouTube prohibits evasion.
- If Studio shows no active restriction but live access still is unavailable, check that the channel is verified and review any other requirements or notices shown for the account.
Or let it run in the cloud—after YouTube restores access
StreamNeo cannot remove a strike, shorten a YouTube restriction, or bypass a channel’s eligibility rules. Once YouTube permits the channel to stream again, it can keep uploaded videos looping as a 24/7 YouTube live stream: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The stream runs in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded quality is kept up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day once your channel is eligible.
