Yes, but only the advertising that Google makes observable. The Google Ads Transparency Center lets you find ads by advertiser or website, and its interface says that API access to this data is available. That does not mean you can download a competitor’s complete Google Ads account. Public records do not establish the competitor’s spend, bids, budgets, audiences, performance, account structure, or every historical creative.
The ordinary Google Ads API is a separate product. It is designed for an advertiser’s own account, with a manager account, developer token, and authorized access. It is not a public competitor-library export API. For monitoring, use the Transparency Center manually or a separately documented third-party service, preserve the identifiers and timestamps you receive, and label the result as the Center’s observable inventory.
What the Google Ads Transparency Center API can actually provide
Google describes the Ads Transparency Center as a searchable hub of ads served from verified advertisers. Its interface is intended for public discovery: you can search by an advertiser’s name or website, inspect returned creatives, and filter the results. The Center covers ads appearing on Search, YouTube, and Display, subject to what Google currently exposes in your region and for your selected filters.
That public view is narrower than an advertiser’s account data. An export can help you study visible messaging, creative formats, destinations when they are exposed, platforms, and dates. It should not be presented as a dump of the competitor’s campaigns or as a performance report.

| Information | What a Transparency Center result may show | What you should not infer |
|---|---|---|
| Advertiser identity | Advertiser name, website association, and an advertiser identifier when returned | That every account, subsidiary, or agency account used by the business has been found |
| Creative | Ad copy, images or video references, creative format, and an ad or creative identifier when exposed | The competitor’s unpublished variants, rejected ads, drafts, or complete creative library |
| Placement | Platform information such as Search, YouTube, or Display, subject to the selected filter | Exact inventory, placements, auctions, or targeting rules |
| Timing | Dates or date ranges supplied in the returned record | Complete historical retention or a guarantee that an ad was shown continuously |
| Commercial data | Only fields that Google or the retrieval service explicitly returns | Spend, impressions, bids, budgets, audiences, conversion data, or return on ad spend |
Google’s 2023 launch announcement called the Center “a searchable hub of all ads served from verified advertisers.” Read “all” in the context of that public product: it describes the Center’s discoverable inventory, not all information held in a private advertising account. Google also reported that more than 30 million people interact with its ads transparency and control menus each day. That is a product-engagement figure, not an API usage, quota, or export-completeness statistic.
Do not confuse three different Google products
Ads Transparency Center
This is the public discovery layer. A person can search for an advertiser or website, confirm the identity shown by Google, and inspect the ads that the Center returns. The interface itself states that API access to its data is available. Because the public pages do not establish a universal quota, retention period, or completeness guarantee, record what you searched, which filters you selected, and when you retrieved it.
Google Ads API
Google’s official Google Ads API lets an application manage and report on an advertiser’s own Google Ads account. Google requires a manager account and developer token, with authorization following the account hierarchy. This API supports campaign management, reporting, and related workflows for accounts to which the user has access. Possessing Google Ads API credentials does not authorize a query for every competitor’s Transparency Center record.
Independent Transparency API services
A third-party provider can expose a structured search and detail workflow for publicly discoverable ads. SearchAPI’s documentation, for example, describes an endpoint that searches advertisers or campaigns and then uses an ad ID to retrieve details. Treat that as an independent vendor implementation, not as a Google-operated guarantee. Before building around it, verify current coverage, quotas, latency, pricing, data-retention terms, regional behavior, and the provider’s permitted use.
Manual export: the reliable starting procedure
Manual inspection is useful even when your end goal is automation. It establishes the advertiser identity and lets you see exactly what the public interface returns for your market.

- Open the official Ads Transparency Center. Use the Google interface rather than assuming that a normal Google search has found every public record.
- Search by the competitor’s advertiser name or website. Try the legal or brand name shown on the competitor’s site, then check the website association in the results. Similar names can belong to different advertisers.
- Confirm the identity. Record the displayed advertiser name, website, advertiser identifier if present, country or region, selected platform, and the retrieval timestamp. If the result does not clearly match the business, do not merge it into your dataset.
- Choose filters deliberately. Note whether you selected Search, YouTube, Display, or no platform filter, along with any date window. The interface warns that ads shown before September 4, 2023 do not appear when a platform filter is selected.
- Enumerate the returned ads. Retain every ad or creative identifier shown by the interface. Capture the visible copy and creative references, plus destination information only when Google exposes it.
- Save evidence with the export. Keep the raw page or response, the query terms, filters, region, and timestamp beside your normalized spreadsheet. A later disappearance may reflect a filter or a change in Google’s exposed inventory rather than a confirmed stop in advertising.
How to automate competitor-ad monitoring
Automation should reproduce the manual controls instead of hiding them. The useful unit is a repeatable observation: one advertiser, one region, one platform selection, one retrieval time, and the records returned under those conditions.
1. Build an advertiser registry
Create one record per confirmed advertiser. Store the advertiser name exactly as displayed, the associated website, the advertiser identifier, the country or region, and notes explaining how identity was confirmed. Keep aliases separate until you have evidence that they represent the same advertiser.

2. Search and page through results
Use the documented search method of your chosen client or vendor. If it returns a campaign or ad list, continue through every available page rather than saving only the first response. Save the request parameters and response metadata so you can distinguish an empty result from a failed request or an exhausted page.
3. Retrieve details by stable identifier
Where the service supports ad-level retrieval, pass the returned ad ID to its detail operation. Do not use headline text as a key: copy can repeat across ads and can change over time. Keep the original ID, advertiser ID, source name, and retrieval timestamp in every row.
4. Normalize without destroying the raw record
Maintain an immutable raw response and a separate normalized table. A practical normalized record contains:

- advertiser name and advertiser identifier;
- ad or creative identifier;
- platform and region;
- retrieval timestamp and any supplied start or end dates;
- primary text, headlines, descriptions, and calls to action when separately exposed;
- creative format and references to images or video;
- destination URL or destination description when returned;
- source client, request parameters, and response status.
Use a null or “unavailable” value when a field is absent. Never turn a missing spend, audience, or performance field into a zero.
5. Diff observations, not assumptions
Compare the current record with the previous observation by advertiser ID, ad ID, creative content, platform, and dates. Mark a creative as newly observed, unchanged, changed, or no longer returned. “No longer returned” is safer than “stopped running” because public availability can change and the Center does not promise complete historical retention.
6. Keep an audit trail
Log the retrieval time in a consistent time zone, the selected region and platform, the client or vendor version, request outcome, and any rate-limit or authorization response. Store access credentials in a secret manager and restrict who can export or redistribute raw responses.
Coverage limitations that affect every export
Platform and date filters
The September 4, 2023 notice is material: selecting a platform filter excludes ads shown before that date. A platform-specific export therefore cannot be compared directly with an unfiltered historical search unless you account for that boundary. Include the platform selection and date window in filenames, database columns, and reports.
Regional variation
What Google exposes can vary by region. Run a country-specific search only when your business question is country-specific, and retain the region with each observation. Do not treat a result found in one market as proof that the same inventory is visible everywhere.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Incomplete historical inventory
The official material does not publish a retention period, an export-completeness percentage, or a guaranteed count of all historical creatives. A small result set may mean the advertiser has few discoverable ads, that the selected filters narrowed the result, or that older records are no longer exposed. State which interpretation your evidence supports.
Fields that are not public performance data
The Center is not a substitute for an account owner’s reporting. Public results do not establish competitor spend, impressions, bids, budgets, audiences, conversion rates, or profitability. If a vendor adds an estimated field, label it as the vendor’s estimate and do not present it as a Google-reported fact.
Manual research, a vendor API, or the official Google Ads API?
| Approach | Best use | Advantages | Important limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official Transparency Center interface | One-off checks, identity confirmation, and small evidence sets | Direct public view, no competitor account permission required, easy to inspect visually | Manual labor; filters and visible fields govern coverage; no published completeness or quota figure |
| Documented third-party Transparency API | Scheduled monitoring and structured ingestion | Search and ad-detail operations can be integrated into a database; repeatable retrieval | Coverage, quotas, pricing, latency, retention, and terms depend on the vendor; implementation is not Google’s guarantee |
| Official Google Ads API | Managing or reporting on accounts your organization is authorized to access | Supported account workflows, campaign operations, and reporting with Google authorization | Not a public competitor-library export; requires manager-account and developer-token access plus account authorization |
| Browser scraping or an unofficial proxy | Not a defensible default | May appear to bypass missing API features | Can violate Google policies, break when the interface changes, and create privacy, security, and audit problems |
Choose manual work when the question is narrow and the evidence must be visually checked. Choose a documented vendor API when you need recurring, structured observations and can accept its contractual and technical limits. Use the official Google Ads API only for accounts that have granted the required access.
Compliance, authorization, and responsible automation
Google’s developer policies describe approved uses such as creating or managing campaigns and reporting or monitoring that benefits users. They also prohibit scraping Google data in violation of Google’s policies and prohibit programmatic proxy services that re-expose Google Ads capabilities while letting downstream parties bypass their own developer access and verification.
- Use an interface or API according to its current terms, not merely because a request technically succeeds.
- For an organization’s own Google Ads account, authenticate the actual authorized user or manager account; do not pool credentials for unrelated customers.
- If your product serves multiple customers, design tenant-level authorization and audit logs so each customer’s permissions are checked independently.
- Do not claim that your service provides Google Ads capabilities to users who have not completed the required developer access or verification.
- Limit collection to the public fields you need, protect raw responses, define retention periods, and honor deletion or access requests where applicable.
- Review Google’s current developer terms and the third-party provider’s contract before launch, because policy and product behavior can change.
Troubleshooting common export failures
The search returns no advertiser
Check spelling, website association, region, and whether you searched for a brand rather than the legal advertiser name. Search again without a platform filter, then compare the displayed identity before creating a new registry entry.

The API returns fewer ads than the interface
Confirm that pagination completed, the same region and platform were supplied, and the vendor’s documentation defines the same date window as the interface. Preserve both responses. Do not fill the gap with inferred ads or claim that either result is complete.
Older ads disappear after a platform filter is added
This is expected for records shown before September 4, 2023, according to the interface notice. Re-run an unfiltered search when historically older observations matter, and keep the two result sets labeled separately.
A destination or creative field is blank
Report it as unavailable. The public record may not expose that field, or the vendor may not have mapped it. Never guess the landing page from ad text.
Requests are rejected or throttled
Check the provider’s current authentication, quota, and retry rules. Use bounded retries with backoff, record the failure, and avoid creating parallel request floods. If you are calling the official Google Ads API, verify the developer token, manager-account hierarchy, and account authorization rather than substituting a public advertiser ID.
A defensible reporting format
Every report should state what was observed and under what conditions. A concise header can include the advertiser, website, region, platform filter, date window, source interface or vendor, and retrieval time. The body can then list ad IDs, visible copy, formats, destinations when exposed, and the change status since the previous observation.
Use wording such as “ads returned by the Google Ads Transparency Center for this advertiser and filter on [date]” rather than “all of the competitor’s ads.” If a field or historical period is not available, say so explicitly. That distinction protects readers from treating a public transparency view as private account intelligence.
Quick Recap
Which approach should you choose?
- Need a single competitor snapshot: use the official Center, verify identity, record filters and timestamps, and save the returned IDs.
- Need a weekly or daily watchlist: use a documented third-party Transparency API only after checking its current coverage, quotas, cost, retention, and terms; retain raw responses and diff normalized records.
- Need campaign changes, spend, or performance for your own organization: use the official Google Ads API with the required manager-account and developer-token authorization.
- Need a competitor’s spend, bids, audiences, or complete account history: the Transparency Center does not establish those values, so do not promise them in a report or product.
