Yes for music, but not as a phone-video display. An iPhone can send audio to a compatible LG Sound Suite speaker with AirPlay 2, and an Android phone can send music from Google Cast-enabled apps. Either phone can also use Bluetooth. Video is different: Sound Suite speakers are audio endpoints. The LG H7 soundbar connects to a television through HDMI eARC and has no HDMI input for direct video pass-through, so your phone must cast or mirror video to a compatible TV or display first, with the TV sending sound to the Sound Suite system.
The exact menu names and discoverability depend on the Sound Suite model, country, network and whether the speaker is operating alone or in a grouped configuration. The procedures below cover the documented behavior for the M5, M7 and H7 systems.
What works from each phone platform
The practical answer depends on whether you are sending audio or video and which network protocol your phone supports. AirPlay 2 is the normal Wi-Fi route from an iPhone. Google Cast is the normal Wi-Fi route from Android when the music app supports casting. Bluetooth is a device-to-device fallback for audio when Wi-Fi casting is unavailable.

LG’s current FAQ lists Sound Suite high-resolution playback up to 24-bit/96 kHz. It separately lists Apple Music over AirPlay 2 at up to 16-bit/44.1 kHz. Those are published capability figures, not a promise that every app, track, phone or connection will use those settings.

How to AirPlay music from an iPhone
Prepare the network and speaker
- Turn on the compatible M5, M7 or H7-based system and complete its initial setup.
- Connect the iPhone to the Wi-Fi network you intend to use for the speaker.
- Connect the Sound Suite speaker to that same Wi-Fi network. LG’s manual states: “Make sure that this product and your iOS device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.” A guest network, mesh segment or extender that isolates devices can prevent discovery even when both devices appear to have internet access.
- If the speaker belongs to a Stereo Pairing or Dolby Atmos FlexConnect group, switch it to a supported standalone-speaker arrangement for setup and testing. LG’s guidance says AirPlay and Google Cast are supported in standalone speaker mode; a grouped configuration may need to be disconnected before an individual speaker appears.
Start playback with AirPlay
- Open Apple Music or another app that offers AirPlay audio.
- Start a song, then tap the AirPlay icon in the player. If the app does not show it, open Control Center, touch the audio playback panel, and tap the AirPlay control.
- Select the Sound Suite speaker from the list. The speaker name is the name assigned during setup, so check the model or room name if several devices appear.
- Use the iPhone’s volume buttons or the app’s volume control. To stop sending audio, open the AirPlay picker again and switch back to iPhone or another output.
AirPlay control requires iOS 11.4 or later according to LG’s online manual. Apps decide how prominently they expose AirPlay, so the absence of an AirPlay button in one app does not prove that the speaker is incompatible. Try Control Center or a known AirPlay-capable music app before changing the speaker setup.
What AirPlay does and does not carry
AirPlay sends audio to the Sound Suite endpoint. It does not make an H7, M5 or M7 a screen for the iPhone’s video. For an AirPlay video service, choose a compatible AirPlay television or streaming display as the video destination; then connect that display’s audio output to the Sound Suite system through the TV connection supported by your model. The H7’s documented TV path is HDMI eARC.
How to cast music from Android to an LG H7, M5 or M7
Use a Cast-enabled music app
- Put the Android phone and the Sound Suite device on the same Wi-Fi network. Avoid a guest SSID or any router setting that blocks wireless client-to-client communication.
- Open a music service that supports Google Cast. LG’s H7 manual says you can listen using “hundreds of Google Cast-enabled apps on your phone, tablet or laptop.”
- Play a track and tap the Cast button. In some Android versions, an output switcher also appears in the media controls; choose the Sound Suite device there if the app supports that route.
- Select the speaker, wait for the connection confirmation, and adjust volume from the app, the Android media controls or the speaker.
- To end the session, tap the Cast button and choose This phone, Disconnect or the equivalent option shown by the app.
Google Cast hands playback control to the Cast session, so the phone can often be used for other tasks while the speaker continues playing. The precise controls, account requirements and app support are set by the individual music service.

Android video casting is a display workflow
Google’s Android help distinguishes Cast speakers from Cast displays. The output switcher can target Cast speakers for audio, while video casting targets compatible displays such as Chromecast or Google TV. Therefore, do not select the H7 as though it were a Chromecast video receiver. Cast the video to a television or display device, then let the TV send audio to the H7 through HDMI eARC or another supported TV audio connection.
Bluetooth: the fallback for either phone
Bluetooth is useful when Wi-Fi casting is unavailable, the router prevents device discovery, or an app has no AirPlay or Cast control. It is an audio connection, so it does not solve the video-display limitation.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the iPhone or Android phone.
- Put the Sound Suite model into Bluetooth pairing mode according to its on-device or remote-control instructions.
- Select the LG Sound Suite model in the phone’s available-device list and accept the pairing request.
- Open the music app and choose the paired LG device as the phone’s audio output if it is not selected automatically.
Bluetooth normally requires the phone to remain within wireless range and does not offer the same multi-room, app-level handoff or network playback behavior as AirPlay 2 and Google Cast. Use it as a reliable fallback rather than as a way to add video to the speaker.

Why the H7 cannot play phone video directly
The H7 is a soundbar designed to receive television audio. LG’s UK setup guide says: “The LG Sound Suite H7 (Model #H7) connects to the TV via HDMI eARC and does not include an HDMI input for direct video pass-through.” That specification has two consequences:

- The H7 cannot accept an HDMI video signal from a phone, Chromecast or game device and forward that picture to a screen.
- The H7 can still be the audio part of a phone-video setup when the phone’s video reaches a separate display and the display sends sound back over eARC or another supported connection.
A workable iPhone arrangement is iPhone AirPlay to an AirPlay-compatible TV, with the TV connected to H7 by HDMI eARC. A workable Android arrangement is Android Cast to a Chromecast or Google TV display, with the TV connected to H7 by eARC. If the display does not support those protocols, use an appropriate wired or wireless phone-to-display method; the Sound Suite unit remains the audio endpoint.
Standalone speakers, Stereo Pairing and Dolby Atmos FlexConnect
Sound Suite expansion speakers and the H7 can be used in different system arrangements. Discoverability is simplest when the target speaker is operating by itself. LG documents AirPlay and Google Cast support in standalone speaker mode and warns that some grouped Stereo Pairing or Dolby Atmos FlexConnect configurations may need to be disconnected before an individual unit is discoverable.

When a grouped system is not listed
- Pause playback and identify whether the speaker is assigned to a stereo pair, surround arrangement or Dolby Atmos FlexConnect setup.
- Temporarily disconnect or remove the group using the Sound Suite setup controls.
- Confirm that the individual speaker is on the same Wi-Fi network as the phone.
- Test AirPlay or Google Cast with the individual speaker.
- Rebuild the group after testing, then check whether the current system configuration supports casting to the group as a whole.
Do not assume that a speaker that works in a group must appear as a separate AirPlay or Cast target. Group membership changes the endpoint that the network advertises, and LG notes that behavior can vary with the current configuration.
Troubleshooting: the speaker is not found
Check the network first
- Read the Wi-Fi name on the phone and in the Sound Suite setup information. They should be the same local network, not merely the same broadband account.
- Disable a VPN temporarily if it changes local-network routing.
- Move the phone off a guest network and onto the main household SSID.
- Restart the phone, speaker and router if the speaker recently changed networks.
Check the protocol and app
- On iPhone, try Control Center’s AirPlay picker as well as the app’s own AirPlay button.
- On Android, verify that the music app actually supports Google Cast; a generic Bluetooth or web player may not expose a Cast button.
- For video, look for a compatible TV, Chromecast or Google TV target rather than the H7 soundbar.
Check the speaker’s operating mode
- Temporarily leave Stereo Pairing or Dolby Atmos FlexConnect and test the unit in standalone mode.
- Make sure the speaker has completed setup and is not waiting for a firmware or account step.
- If multiple similarly named LG devices appear, rename them by room or model so the intended endpoint is unambiguous.
Use Bluetooth to isolate the fault
Pair the phone directly over Bluetooth. If Bluetooth plays music but AirPlay or Cast does not list the speaker, the speaker’s amplifier and basic audio path are working; concentrate on Wi-Fi discovery, app support or grouping. If Bluetooth also fails, repeat pairing and confirm that the Sound Suite unit is in pairing mode.

For maximum documented Sound Suite quality, LG lists up to 24-bit/96 kHz high-resolution playback. Apple Music over AirPlay 2 is listed by LG at up to 16-bit/44.1 kHz. These figures describe the platform paths LG documents; they do not mean every streaming catalog, Bluetooth session or grouped mode will deliver the same resolution.

Country, model and software qualifications
LG documents AirPlay and Google Cast behavior for the M5 and M7 speakers and the H7 soundbar, but the exact feature set and menu presentation can differ by country and can change without notice. Confirm the model number and regional documentation for the unit you own, especially if a product was imported.
Network discovery also depends on the current Sound Suite configuration, router behavior and software versions. A successful setup on one M-series speaker does not guarantee identical labels or grouping behavior on another model. Keep the speaker’s software and phone operating system current, but treat any new option as model- and region-dependent until LG’s documentation for that unit confirms it.
