How to think about the MOBILE-to-HNT migration
Coinbase’s migration notice tells holders to use the Helium Wallet app to migrate MOBILE to HNT. It does not establish that Coinbase automatically converts every balance, that migration is reversible or fee-free, or that the process is available in every jurisdiction. Confirm the current instructions and any costs or eligibility details before moving tokens.
- Read Coinbase’s current migration notice. Confirm whether MOBILE is still listed as disabled and follow any current requirements: Coinbase MOBILE migration help.
- Use official Helium Wallet instructions. Helium says its wallet displays HNT and MOBILE, as well as IOT, DC, SOL, and USDC. See the Helium Wallet app documentation for wallet guidance.
- Protect your recovery phrase. Wallet recovery depends on the seed phrase. Never share it with anyone, and follow Helium’s official wallet guidance when securing or recovering access.

HNT is Helium’s native network token
Helium documentation identifies HNT as the Helium Network’s native cryptocurrency and protocol token. Hotspot hosts and operators can receive HNT rewards. MOBILE is associated with the Helium Mobile subnetwork
MOBILE is a separate token associated with Helium Mobile. Helium’s HIP 138 overview describes consolidating network rewards into HNT. It says legacy MOBILE and IOT remain tradable and redeemable for HNT on Solana until full implementation. That transition’s implementation status can change, so do not assume it is complete without checking Helium’s latest official information.
Check the route, costs, and status before trading
If Coinbase presents a DEX route, review the trade details and fees before submitting. Coinbase’s guidance does not establish that the same route is available to every user; regional access, liquidity, network charges, and the options shown in an individual account can vary. Use the costs displayed at execution rather than relying on an older estimate, and do not treat a MOBILE DEX guide as overriding the separate disabled status in Coinbase’s migration notice.

Do you need a Helium hotspot to buy or hold the tokens?
No. A Helium Mobile hotspot is an optional physical product for people interested in deploying network coverage, not a requirement for buying or holding MOBILE or HNT. Helium describes its Mobile Network as a decentralized carrier-offload network using community-deployed Mobile Hotspots and converted Wi-Fi networks.
