YouTube has a built-in Live Redirect setting, but its documented workflow is to choose a specific eligible Premiere or live stream—not to automatically find the next event in a recurring schedule. Set and check the destination for each source stream in YouTube Studio before it starts. The official instructions reviewed here do not establish a supported third-party tool that automates choosing or updating that destination.
What Live Redirect does—and what it does not automate
YouTube Live Redirect sends viewers from a live stream that is ending to a selected Premiere or eligible live stream. You configure the destination through YouTube Studio or Live Control Room; an encoder sends the video feed but is not the documented place to configure redirects. YouTube’s Live Redirect instructions describe the destination setting, while its stream settings guidance covers encoder connection details.
This is a hand-selected destination, not a documented “go to whatever stream is next on my schedule” automation. If the next event changes, the reviewed YouTube materials do not say the redirect will update itself. Plan to verify the destination for each source stream.
Available options for automating the redirect
| Option | Does it automatically select the next scheduled event? | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Live Redirect | No, not in the documented workflow | You select a destination in Studio/Live Control Room. YouTube says viewers move to that selected destination when the source stream ends. |
| Third-party redirect automation | Not established | No specific service or documented, supported integration for automatically configuring or triggering this redirect is established here. Verify the exact capability, integration, handling of schedule changes and unavailable destinations, and commercial terms before relying on a service. |
Do not buy an encoder, capture card, or control surface expecting it to automate this software-side destination choice. Those tools may help with video production or sending a feed, but YouTube’s redirect setup is a separate Studio setting.

Set a redirect for a scheduled stream
- Check eligibility first. YouTube’s help page lists more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes as requirements for the source creator. Review the current eligibility and redirect instructions for your account.
- Choose the next event. Identify the exact upcoming live stream or Premiere viewers should see after the current source ends. YouTube recommends setting up the Premiere before setting up the live stream.
- Open the source stream’s settings. In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Live, edit the source stream, then open Customization.
- Set the destination. Under Redirect, select the intended eligible Premiere or live stream and save the setting.
- Check cross-channel permission if needed. Redirecting to another channel requires that channel’s permission. YouTube provides choices involving subscribed channels, all channels, or specifically approved channels; its help page describes a limit of 100 specifically approved channels.
- Recheck before going live. Confirm that the intended destination is still upcoming or active and that permissions allow it. If your schedule changed, choose the new destination yourself; do not assume YouTube will resolve “next scheduled stream” dynamically.
- Set viewer expectations. YouTube advises telling viewers they may need to wait a few seconds for the screen to reload after the source ends; its stream settings guidance says to allow about two seconds.
YouTube’s May 3, 2022 Live Redirect announcement described sending an audience to a chosen Premiere or live stream, including another creator’s channel subject to its permissions. Destination availability matters: the announcement describes an active or upcoming live stream or an upcoming Premiere.
Keep a scheduled sequence reliable
- Configure the redirect on each source stream rather than treating it as a channel-wide recurring rule.
- Record the intended next event alongside the source stream’s schedule so a changed event is caught during the pre-live check.
- Verify that a destination is eligible and available when you configure and recheck it. The cited guidance does not promise a fallback destination if it becomes unavailable.
- For a cross-channel handoff, arrange the receiving channel’s permission before relying on the redirect.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for keeping an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube 24/7; it does not configure Live Redirect or send a camera feed. To use it, upload your recording, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.
