Not by itself, according to its documented options. wkhtmltoimage can produce a tall image when the page’s content is already laid out, but setting a height or waiting after load does not make it scroll the page to trigger content that appears only on scroll.
What wkhtmltoimage does with a long page
wkhtmltoimage converts an HTML page into an image. Its documented default screen height is calculated from page content, so it may produce one tall image of a long document when that content is already present in the page layout. That is different from taking successive screenshots while scrolling. The Debian Bookworm wkhtmltoimage manpage documents rendering options, but does not describe scroll simulation.
The distinction matters because some pages do not create all their content at once. A site may load more items only after a scroll event, or display content inside an independently scrolling panel. In those cases, a tall output image is not proof that wkhtmltoimage scrolled through the page or revealed every section.
When a tall image is likely to work
If all the content is in the document layout before capture, try the converter with a deliberate width and a short JavaScript delay:

wkhtmltoimage --width 1280 --disable-smart-width --javascript-delay 2000 https://example.com/ page.pngThis sets a 1280-pixel rendering width, makes that width strict, and waits two seconds after page loading. The command is an example, not a guarantee that arbitrary page scripts or remote resources will finish within that time. Check the resulting image for missing sections, clipped content, or an unexpected height.
Width and height are rendering settings, not scroll gestures
The --width option controls rendering width; --disable-smart-width prevents smart-width behavior from changing the specified width. The documented --height option sets screen height, while the default is calculated from page content. Neither option instructs wkhtmltoimage to scroll through the page. A delay is not a universal readiness check
JavaScript is enabled by default, and --javascript-delay <msec> gives scripts extra time. The project’s library settings reference describes the delay as lasting until its interval has elapsed or JavaScript calls window.print(). A fixed wait can help when a page completes ordinary setup shortly after load, but it cannot guarantee that a particular site has finished every task.
When content depends on scrolling
If a page reveals sections only after they enter the viewport, the documented wkhtmltoimage options do not promise to generate the scroll events needed to reveal them. A delay helps only if the site loads the content without an explicit scroll event. For scroll-triggered content, use a browser automation workflow that explicitly scrolls, waits for new content, and then captures; alternatively, arrange for the page to render the required content before running wkhtmltoimage.

Pages with an internal scrolling area can behave differently from a document that scrolls as one continuous page. The project usage documentation discusses viewport sizing for custom scrollbars and CSS overflow. Identify whether the missing content belongs to the main document or to an overflow container before choosing a capture method.
How to check a capture and troubleshoot omissions
- The image ends before the expected content: inspect the page in a browser and determine whether the omitted section was already in the document or appeared only after scrolling. If it is scroll-triggered, a taller height or longer delay is not a substitute for explicit scrolling.
- The page needs more time after load: increase
--javascript-delayand compare the output. Treat the delay as a timing allowance, not a page-specific completion signal. - Content sits in a panel with its own scrollbar: check the panel’s overflow behavior and viewport sizing. A document-height capture may not expose the contents of an internal scrolling region.
- JavaScript-based page setup remains incomplete: inspect the output and try a workflow with explicit readiness checks. A project issue records one report of setup not completing before image generation despite timing options; it illustrates a possible case, not a failure that applies to every installation.

Will increasing –javascript-delay load lazy content?
Only when that content loads without a scroll event and finishes during the wait. Verify the output on the target page.
