Yes, vMix can stream to YouTube while looping video files, but the documentation does not confirm that playback from a Windows network drive or NAS will remain reliable unattended. vMix supports looping through its List and PlayList features; it does not provide full time-of-day scheduling. What vMix can do for a 24/7 YouTube stream
vMix lists YouTube as a streaming destination and supports video-file inputs. Its playback tools can repeat a collection or sequence of videos, so a basic loop is possible. The important uncertainty is the network drive. The playback documentation describes lists and playlists, but does not establish how mapped drives, UNC paths, SMB shares, or NAS devices behave during continuous playback or a network interruption. General file support is not a guarantee of unattended network-share reliability.

Use List for a straightforward repeating collection
Choose List when you primarily need a set of media files to advance automatically and loop, optionally in randomized order. A List does not require every video to be loaded at once, which can avoid the system-resource demand of loading the full collection together. A List can also be used within a standard PlayList.
Use PlayList for item-specific playback or input changes
Choose PlayList when you need to switch between vMix inputs or control an individual item’s start position, duration, or transition. Enable its Loop setting if the sequence should restart when it finishes.

Set up and test the network-drive workflow
- Prepare the media location. Decide on the path form you intend to use, such as a mapped drive or UNC path, and ensure the Windows account running vMix has access to the share. The documentation does not specify which path form or credential arrangement is supported for unattended use, so treat this as a deployment-specific check.
- Create the playback sequence. Add the files to a List or arrange them in a PlayList, depending on whether you need a simple collection or per-item controls.
- Set the repeat behavior. For a List, confirm Auto Next and enable Loop. For a PlayList, enable Loop. Check that the expected next item starts at each transition.
- Configure YouTube in the current vMix installation. Select YouTube as the destination and verify the stream settings for your account and current YouTube requirements. vMix’s older live-streaming article discusses RTMP and encoding, but it was last updated in 2015 and should not be treated as current YouTube policy: vMix live-streaming article. Check current YouTube Help for account eligibility, live-stream rules, and archive handling.
- Run a full-cycle test. Using the same Windows account, path, permissions, and vMix preset planned for production, let playback pass through the complete media set and repeat. Watch for missing files or failures to load the next item.
- Test interruptions and restart recovery. In a controlled test, check what happens if the network share becomes unavailable and then returns, and whether restarting the host restores the intended playlist. Keep a local fallback copy of essential media if a share interruption would take the channel off air.
- Verify the stream itself. Confirm the YouTube broadcast is receiving the intended program and check reconnection behavior rather than assuming a looping playback control guarantees stream availability.
These are practical checks, not behaviors vMix documents as guaranteed. Its documentation establishes basic looping and playback, not network-share reconnection, local caching, or continuous-playback reliability.
When vMix is not the right fit
If your requirement is a schedule with programs starting at particular times, vMix’s native List and PlayList features are not a complete broadcast automation system. vMix’s scheduling guidance says it does not support time-of-day scheduling. It mentions a third-party vMix Scheduler project but cautions that it is unmaintained and may not work with current vMix versions. Verify any separate automation tool against the vMix version you plan to run.
