Yes. vMix can loop video content and send it to YouTube Live, including from a Windows VPS, if that VPS provides compatible graphics support and enough sustained outbound bandwidth. vMix describes this as basic 24/7 streaming—not a full television-style schedule with time-of-day programming. A Windows VPS alone does not guarantee that the setup will work reliably.
Choose List or PlayList in vMix
Use List for sequential media files
For a sequence of local video or audio files, use vMix List. Enable Auto Next to advance to the next file, and use its Loop control to return to the beginning after the list ends. vMix says List does not require all videos to be loaded at once, which can use fewer resources than loading each file as a separate input. Use PlayList to switch among inputs
Choose PlayList when you want to sequence multiple vMix inputs rather than play a collection of files through one List input. Its Loop option restarts the playlist after completion. Items can have individual start positions, durations, transitions, and transition times. A vMix playlist belongs to the active preset in which it was created, so retain that preset with your setup. Details are in vMix’s scheduling guidance.
Neither option provides time-of-day scheduling. vMix characterizes its 24/7 looping capability as suitable when videos do not need to play at specific times; it says the software is primarily designed for live events, not full broadcast automation.

Set up the YouTube Live output
- Prepare the media and preset. Add the files to List or configure the inputs and PlayList. Enable the appropriate Auto Next and Loop controls, then save the preset.
- Choose a streaming destination. Use vMix’s YouTube Live workflow, or choose Custom RTMP Server and enter the destination URL and stream key supplied by YouTube. vMix’s streaming settings guide describes the configurable quality and stream status controls.
- Start the stream and check its status. In vMix’s documented YouTube workflow, sign in, create a stream or select an event, and start streaming. Interface labels may have changed since the guide was updated in 2021, so follow the current vMix and YouTube screens. That guide also states that ending the stream in vMix ends it on YouTube: Creating a YouTube Live Stream Now stream in vMix.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it as a credential: anyone with access to it may be able to stream to your channel. If it is exposed, use YouTube’s current controls to replace or reset it, then update vMix.
Check whether the Windows VPS is suitable
vMix is Windows-only. Its current hardware requirements table specifies Windows 10 or 11. Before renting a VPS, confirm that its actual virtual graphics and networking—not just its operating-system label—meet the workload.
- Graphics acceleration: vMix’s published table calls for a dedicated DirectX 10.1-compatible graphics card at minimum and recommends a dedicated NVIDIA card with 2 GB or more of memory. The graphics hardware affects how many inputs, outputs, and production tasks can run. A VPS that exposes only a basic virtual display may not meet the requirement. See vMix supported hardware.
- Upload capacity: The VPS needs persistent outbound bandwidth appropriate to the stream bitrate, with headroom for network variation. vMix notes that streaming quality depends partly on the internet connection; select quality settings that the VPS can sustain rather than assuming that a high advertised port speed guarantees stable streaming.
- Windows and driver access: Confirm the provider supports the required Windows setup and lets you use compatible graphics drivers. Ask specifically about virtual GPU access if the provider’s offering is unclear.
- Remote administration: Ensure you can remotely access the machine to configure vMix, inspect playback, and recover from problems.
- Operational recovery: vMix documents playback and streaming features, but that documentation does not guarantee unattended recovery after an application crash, Windows update, network disconnection, or host maintenance. Plan monitoring and a way to restart the workflow separately.
vMix’s requirements and setup documentation do not certify a particular VPS provider or configuration. Validate the actual virtual graphics, drivers, upload capacity, and remote-management options before committing. You can review the vMix download page alongside its hardware requirements.

Common problems and what to check
- The VPS cannot start vMix or graphics performance is poor: Check whether the virtual machine exposes a compatible dedicated GPU and drivers. A Windows desktop or basic virtual display by itself does not establish that the graphics requirements are met.
- Playback stops at the end of the files: Check that Auto Next is enabled for List and that its Loop control is on. For PlayList, verify its Loop option and confirm the intended inputs are in the playlist.
- The playlist does not play at a specific time: Looping is not time-of-day scheduling. vMix’s scheduling guidance distinguishes basic continuous playback from full programming automation.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check the selected destination, RTMP URL, stream key, and vMix stream status. If using the YouTube workflow, make sure the correct account and stream or event are selected.
- The stream is unstable: Check whether the VPS can sustain the configured bitrate and whether outbound connectivity varies. Reduce the selected streaming quality if necessary, then verify stability at the revised setting.
- The YouTube stream ends when you stop vMix: This is expected in the documented YouTube Live workflow. Do not stop the vMix stream if you intend for the YouTube broadcast to continue.
- The stream fails after a restart or interruption: Confirm that the saved preset and media remain available and that vMix is running. Recovery from crashes, updates, provider maintenance, or disconnections requires separate monitoring and restart arrangements.
