Yes, conditionally. vMix can run in a cloud Windows environment if the VPS gives the guest operating system access to a directly attached GPU with virtual display support. A standard Windows VPS with virtual CPUs but no suitable GPU/display path is not enough. No Indian provider’s current GPU availability or 24/7 suitability is established here, so verify the exact plan and test it before relying on it for a continuous YouTube stream.
What an Indian Windows VPS must provide
The deciding factor is not simply whether the plan runs Windows or advertises a GPU. vMix’s cloud guidance requires directly attached graphics with virtual display support. Its support matrix recommends dedicated NVIDIA graphics and explains that the required GPU speed depends on the number of inputs and simultaneous outputs.
- GPU and virtual display: Confirm that graphics are exposed directly to the Windows guest and support a virtual display. Ask the provider which NVIDIA driver branch is supported for the plan.
- Windows edition and licensing: Confirm the Windows Server edition and that its license is included or otherwise covered. vMix’s cloud example specified Windows Server 2019 x64 and at least four allocated CPU cores; that guide dates to 2020, so its requirements are a historical example, not a current recommendation for a particular Indian provider or instance family.
- Network capacity: Ask about sustained outbound throughput and fair-use limits, then test the actual route and workload. A stated port speed alone does not establish that the VPS can sustain your stream bitrate.
- Operations and access: Check maintenance and reboot policies, recovery options, storage for any local recording, and remote-control methods compatible with vMix.
- Location: Verify the physical region of the exact instance rather than assuming that an Indian company or plan means the server is in India.
No Indian provider, current regional GPU inventory, pricing, bandwidth guarantee, driver compatibility or service-level commitment has been verified for this setup. Compare the exact instance’s GPU/display exposure, driver, sustained network performance, location, Windows licensing, recovery commitments, remote console, storage and full-time cost.
How to test vMix before putting the stream into production
- Get provider confirmation in writing. Ask for the GPU model, whether it is directly attached with virtual display support, the supported NVIDIA driver, Windows licensing, network limits, maintenance/reboot policy and available remote console options.
- Install vMix on the exact VPS plan. Do not infer compatibility from another plan, a provider’s general GPU claim or a different cloud platform.
- Use a compatible remote-control method. vMix says not to control its cloud setup through Windows Remote Desktop (RDP). Its guide names VNC, TeamViewer, AnyDesk and Teradici as alternatives. Set the GPU-connected display as primary and disable other Microsoft Basic Adapter displays, as the guide directs.
- Run the graphics acceptance check. Render a test MP4 in vMix. If the MP4 is blank, vMix may not be able to access the GPU; resolve the display, driver or GPU assignment with the provider before proceeding. A successful test file is an initial compatibility check, not proof of continuous uptime.
- Exercise the intended workload. Run the actual scene, input count, output count and encoding configuration on the exact plan. Check rendering and upload stability under representative load, and test what happens when the stream connection is interrupted.
- Run a private or otherwise controlled YouTube test stream. YouTube recommends testing the stream and checking stream health. Confirm that the selected ingest settings work before making the feed public.
vMix warns that shared-cloud performance is not guaranteed. A successful setup test cannot establish a 24/7 reliability rate for a provider or plan.

Configure the YouTube output
For a broadly compatible 1080p stream, H.264 is the conservative encoder choice. YouTube’s current live-encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval. It supports H.264, H.265 and AV1, up to 60 frames per second.

These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not a promise that a VPS network path will sustain the rate. YouTube recommends a speed test and a test stream. Leave network headroom for overhead and normal variation, and verify health in YouTube’s live control room rather than assuming that an advertised VPS port speed is sufficient.

Use H.265 or AV1 only after confirming that the installed vMix version, GPU hardware encoder and YouTube ingest workflow support the chosen format together. vMix documentation says hardware encoding on supported GPUs is required for AV1 and HEVC, and its release notes describe YouTube Live support for those formats.
Prepare the channel, stream key and content
- Account eligibility: YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Its current help information lists a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key.
- Stream key: Use the stream key configured for the YouTube broadcast in the encoder’s live-output workflow. Treat it as a credential: do not publish it, include it in screenshots or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to the channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live settings and update the encoder.
- Rights and platform rules: Use only video, music and other material you have the rights to stream. Continuous playback does not exempt a channel from YouTube’s content policies or copyright requirements. Reused or repetitive material can also raise monetization and channel-policy concerns; a technically successful stream is not a guarantee of monetization approval.
- Recovery planning: Test how the vMix output behaves after a dropped connection and how you will restart or reconnect it. A running VPS does not by itself guarantee that YouTube ingest, the encoder or the network will recover as intended.
A continuous live feed is not the same as a complete archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. If preserving the whole programme matters, record it locally or use another independent archive path. A scheduled restart into shorter segments may make archived segments practical, but it interrupts an unbroken feed; choose based on which requirement matters more.
