Yes. Vimeo can loop a prerecorded video in a live event and simulcast that event to YouTube. Set the video’s playback behavior to Loop, add YouTube as a destination, and start the event. Depending on how YouTube is connected, you may also need to start the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room.
What the Vimeo-to-YouTube workflow does
The video loops in Vimeo’s event production workflow; YouTube receives the event as a simulcast destination. Vimeo’s instructions explain how to send the event to YouTube, but do not establish whether YouTube labels it as prerecorded to viewers or how YouTube will classify a particular broadcast.
Vimeo’s relevant live-event features require an Advanced or Premium account, or an Enterprise account with the Events feature. YouTube requires a verified account to livestream. Check both requirements before setting up the event. See Vimeo’s instructions for streaming a video as a live event and its YouTube simulcast guide.
Set up a prerecorded video to loop on YouTube
- Create the Vimeo event. From the video’s settings page, choose Stream live to create an event from that video; Vimeo says the video is preloaded in the new event. Alternatively, create an event and add the video to a scene.
- Set the video to loop. In the event production tool, select the video and set its playback behavior to Loop. Vimeo defines this behavior as restarting the video from the beginning when playback reaches the end. Confirm that the intended video is in the scene before going live.
- Add YouTube as a destination. In the event’s Destinations settings, choose one of the connection methods below.
- Start the event and check YouTube. Start the event on Vimeo. With a direct YouTube integration, enabling the destination and going live on Vimeo starts the simulcast. With a scheduled YouTube event connected by RTMP, check YouTube Live Control Room: a separate Go live action may be required.
Choose how Vimeo connects to YouTube
| Connection method | What you set up | What to check when starting |
|---|---|---|
| Direct YouTube integration | Connect your YouTube account in Vimeo and enable YouTube as the event destination. | Going live on Vimeo starts the simulcast when the destination is enabled. |
| Custom RTMP | In YouTube Studio, get the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in Vimeo’s RTMP destination fields. | For a scheduled YouTube event, you may need to select Go live separately in YouTube Live Control Room. |
Vimeo documents both methods in its simulcast setup instructions. Keep the stream key private: it is used to connect an encoder or service to your YouTube stream.

Important limits and checks
- Captions: Vimeo says captions or subtitles included in the uploaded video are not displayed when that video plays back live. If live captions are important, do not assume the file’s existing captions will appear for viewers.
- Destination counts: Vimeo’s current help guidance allows up to 10 integrated simulcast destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations for an event. These are separate destination types, not a promise that every platform supports every configuration. See Vimeo’s simulcasting overview.
- Platform-side actions: Some destinations may require an additional action in their own portal before viewers can see the stream. For scheduled YouTube events using RTMP, specifically check Live Control Room for the separate start action.
- Copyright and platform rules: Use video and audio you have the rights to stream, and make sure the content complies with YouTube’s applicable policies. A successful technical connection does not establish that a video is authorized or eligible to remain live.
Common problems and what to check
- The video ends instead of restarting: Return to the Vimeo event production tool and check that the video playback behavior is set to Loop.
- The Vimeo event is live but YouTube is not: Confirm that YouTube is enabled as a destination. If you used RTMP for a scheduled YouTube event, open YouTube Live Control Room and check whether Go live is still required.
- YouTube does not receive the RTMP feed: Check that the stream URL and stream key were copied from the intended YouTube Studio event into Vimeo’s custom RTMP fields. If the event was rescheduled or replaced, verify the destination details for the event you are actually starting.
- Captions are missing: Vimeo does not show captions or subtitles embedded in the uploaded video during live playback. Plan for that limitation rather than expecting the file’s captions to carry through.
