Xiaomi’s AI Cube, by contrast, is described in an October 1, 2026 report as a prototype, and its reported capacity and model-size claims have not been verified. There is no matched benchmark establishing that the Mac is faster than the Cube.
What the comparison actually establishes
The Mac Studio has published Apple specifications, an announced U.S. starting price, and an announced shipping date. The Xiaomi AI Cube’s reported figures come from secondary coverage that labels it a prototype and says key product details remain unverified. That makes “tops” a headline framing, not a proven performance result.
To compare local-AI performance fairly, a test would need to run the same model and quantization at the same context length, using identified software/runtime versions, and report measured throughput. The available sources provide no such head-to-head test.
Mac Studio M5 Ultra: price, memory and bandwidth
Apple’s August 25, 2026 announcement lists a U.S. starting price of US$5,499 for Mac Studio with M5 Ultra and says deliveries would begin September 22, 2026. Apple lists 96GB of unified memory as the starting configuration, with options up to 256GB or 512GB. The 512GB configuration was announced for late October; as of October 3, that timing is still in the future. Check Apple’s current listing for availability and price before buying.

Apple specifies memory bandwidth of 1.2TB/s. Its technical specifications distinguish two chip configurations: the base option has a 30-core CPU and 64-core GPU, while a configurable option has a 36-core CPU and 80-core GPU. These are distinct options, not one combined specification. Apple also claims up to 4.3× peak AI compute performance versus M3 Ultra; that is Apple’s comparison, not an independently verified result or a direct comparison with Xiaomi’s prototype.
Apple describes MLX as optimized for Apple silicon and positions Mac Studio for on-device AI. Those vendor statements indicate intended software support, but do not independently establish ease of use, privacy outcomes, or performance against the AI Cube.

Xiaomi AI Cube: what is and is not known
An October 1, 2026 Geeky Gadgets report describes Xiaomi AI Cube as a prototype. It reports 80GB of memory and a claimed ability to support models with 120 billion parameters, but explicitly says the claims lack verified benchmarks and detailed technical documentation. The report also does not establish a confirmed price or release timeline. Treat those numbers as reported claims, not Xiaomi-confirmed specifications or proof that a particular model will run at a useful speed.
No official Xiaomi product specification or benchmark is established in the available sources. That does not prove none exists; it means the cited report does not provide a basis for treating the Cube as a currently purchasable, independently tested rival.

How to judge local-AI memory claims
Capacity determines what may fit
Memory capacity can help determine whether model weights and other working data can be loaded, but parameter count alone is not a complete measure of memory needs. The result also depends on choices such as quantization, context length, runtime overhead and the task. A claim that a system supports a 120-billion-parameter model is not enough to establish its usable speed or quality without those details.
Bandwidth affects data movement, not a guaranteed answer speed
Memory bandwidth describes how quickly data can move between memory and processors under specified conditions; it is not itself a real-world model-throughput measurement. Apple’s 1.2TB/s figure is a manufacturer specification. It cannot be directly ranked against Xiaomi’s reported 80GB capacity, which is a different kind of figure, and the available sources give no comparable Xiaomi bandwidth result.

Ask for a reproducible performance test
Before treating either system as faster, look for a test that names the model, quantization, context length, software and runtime versions, and measured throughput. Without those controls, differences in setup can outweigh hardware differences, and a capacity figure or peak-compute claim cannot settle the comparison.

Which system makes sense to consider now?
- If you need a documented product: the Mac Studio is the concrete option in these sources, with Apple-published configurations and announced pricing and availability. Verify current stock and the exact memory/GPU configuration before ordering.
- If you are evaluating the AI Cube: treat it as an unverified prototype report until Xiaomi publishes product specifications, confirms availability and price, and independent testing establishes performance.
- If your priority is speed: do not choose based only on the headline, memory capacity, or bandwidth. Wait for comparable tests using the models and workloads you intend to run.
