No. Proton is used to run some Windows-only Steam games on Linux; it is not a way to run PC games on a PlayStation 5. On Linux, anti-cheat support depends on the individual game and whether its developer enables Proton support.
Why Proton does not run on PS5
Proton is part of Valve’s Steam Play approach for Linux. Valve says Steam Play “can allow support for Windows only games to potentially work on Linux as well,” so it is a compatibility layer for a Linux gaming setup—not a PS5 feature. Valve’s Steam Play description explains that platform context.
Sony’s PS5 support material covers games for the console and compatible peripherals; it does not provide a Proton or Linux-on-PS5 method. The fact that Sony says the overwhelming majority of more than 4,000 PS4 games are playable on PS5 describes backward compatibility, not Proton support. Sony’s PS5 backward-compatibility information addresses that separate question.
How anti-cheat support works with Proton on Linux
Anti-cheat compatibility is possible for some Linux games, but it is not automatic. Valve said in an April 7, 2022 announcement that BattlEye and Easy Anti-Cheat provide a streamlined path for developers who choose to enable support for Proton and Steam Deck. Valve’s announcement describes an option for developers, not a guarantee for every game.

For Easy Anti-Cheat, Valve’s Proton changelog notes support when a game has enabled a Linux module. The Proton changelog therefore reinforces that support must be enabled for the particular title.
How to check whether a specific game’s online mode works
No game is named here, so compatibility with its anti-cheat or official online servers cannot be established generally. For a particular title, check both its current developer or publisher support information and its Steam compatibility details:

- Find the developer’s or publisher’s current support statement for Linux, Proton, and the game’s anti-cheat system.
- Check the game’s Steam compatibility information, including any notes about online play or anti-cheat.
- Confirm that the online mode and official servers you want to use permit the Linux/Proton configuration. Compatibility can vary by game and may change over time.
