Technically, yes—but not reliably by default. PRISM Live Studio can keep broadcasting to YouTube while it runs in the background on an Android phone, but that does not guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 stream. Network loss, heat, device strain, or a platform issue can stop it. And a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube, even if it stays live.
What PRISM Live Studio can do in the background
PRISM says its Android app can continue broadcasting while running in the background, such as when you open another app or answer a call. To enable that behavior, allow the app to display over other apps in Android settings. Follow PRISM’s background-broadcasting guide for the permission flow.
This permission is not a promise that the phone will keep streaming with its screen off, stay cool, remain connected, or run for a full day. Android behavior and power management can vary by phone. Check how your particular device behaves before relying on it.
Will YouTube save a 24-hour stream?
PRISM says YouTube has no maximum live-stream duration, so a 24-hour broadcast is technically possible. But live duration and replay availability are separate: PRISM says YouTube auto-archiving is supported only for streams under 12 hours, and warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be archived at all. Do not count on a complete replay of a 24-hour stream. See PRISM’s guidance on ended streams and archiving.

If keeping a replay matters, consider ending and restarting the stream at intervals below 12 hours. Check current PRISM and YouTube guidance before choosing a schedule, and verify that each shorter broadcast is archived as expected.

- A verified channel.
- At least 50 subscribers.
- No live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- Live streaming enabled and an Android 8.0-or-later device.
YouTube says first-time mobile live activation may take up to 24 hours. These are eligibility requirements, not a guarantee of stream stability or continuous operation.
How to attempt a long PRISM stream
- Confirm eligibility first. Check your channel verification, subscriber count, live-stream status, recent restrictions, and Android version against YouTube’s mobile requirements.
- Enable PRISM’s background permission. In Android settings, allow PRISM Live Studio to display over other apps, following PRISM’s instructions. Confirm the app continues broadcasting when you switch away from it; do not assume this also proves screen-off operation.
- Test the exact setup. Run a shorter trial with the same phone, PRISM version, connection, power arrangement, and YouTube account you intend to use. Check YouTube’s live status and confirm whether the broadcast behaves as expected.
- Plan monitoring and recovery. Arrange a way to see whether YouTube still reports the stream as live and to restart it if it ends. PRISM can detect whether the destination platform reports the stream as on air, but a detection feature is not an uptime guarantee.
- Manage heat, network, and phone load. Use a stable connection, close apps competing for CPU or memory, and reduce heat where practical. PRISM’s stability tips identify network instability, device processing, and heat as relevant concerns. A compatible charger or cooling accessory may help with your particular phone’s conditions, but neither guarantees a 24/7 stream.
- Choose a replay plan. If an archive is important, plan shorter sessions under the 12-hour threshold and verify the resulting recordings rather than assuming a longer broadcast will be saved.
What can end the stream—and what to check

Phone streaming or an encoder workflow?
PRISM on Android is a mobile-app approach; YouTube also supports encoder-based streams. YouTube’s live-streaming tips describe encoders as useful for formats such as gameplay and overlays and advise monitoring stream quality continuously. Its encoder setup guide covers that separate workflow.

Neither workflow has a source-backed guarantee of unattended 24/7 uptime. A phone can be convenient for starting a broadcast, but a continuous channel needs a monitoring and recovery plan as well as a tested setup.
