Apple documents how to save a Safari webpage as a PDF, and separately documents running JavaScript on an active Safari webpage. Those instructions do not show a Shortcut that automatically captures the rendered screen as an image and saves that screenshot as a PDF. If you want a readable PDF of the page, Safari’s built-in save flow is the supported option.
First decide which kind of PDF you need
A PDF of a webpage and a PDF containing a screenshot are different outputs. Safari’s documented PDF flow saves webpage content as a PDF; it is not described as a picture of exactly what was visible on the screen. A screenshot PDF, by contrast, would contain an image of the rendered page or screen.

- Want a readable, searchable page document? Use Safari’s Share and Markup flow to save the webpage as a PDF.
- Need the exact screen image inside a PDF? Apple’s cited instructions do not establish an automatic Shortcut for that result. The availability of a user-created Shortcut or another technique is not settled by those instructions.
Save a Safari webpage as a PDF
Apple documents this manual Safari route. The precise menu entry point can vary with Safari’s layout: use the page menu or Share button shown on your iPhone.
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap the page menu or the Share button.
- Tap Markup.
- Tap Done.
- Choose Save File To, enter a filename, and select where to save it.
This creates a PDF of webpage content. Apple’s instructions do not characterize this sequence as an automatic Shortcuts screenshot capture.

What Shortcuts can do with a webpage
Apple’s Run JavaScript on Webpage action can retrieve data from or modify an active Safari webpage. Apple describes it as a way to “retrieve specific data from a website, or to modify the contents of a webpage.” It is webpage scripting, not a documented screenshot-to-PDF action.
Requirements for the JavaScript action
- The shortcut needs an active Safari webpage as input and should be launched from Safari’s share sheet.
- In Shortcuts settings, enable Allow Running Scripts.
- Keep the script short: Apple says the action is subject to a time limit.
Shortcuts supports Safari webpages as an input type, and shared input from an app is passed to the shortcut’s first action. These capabilities let a Shortcut work with a webpage; they do not establish that it can save a screenshot of that page as a PDF.

Can you automate the exact screenshot-to-PDF result?
The official Apple guidance cited here does not provide a version-specific recipe for automatically capturing a webpage screenshot and exporting that image as a PDF. That is not proof that no user-created Shortcut or alternate iOS technique exists. It means the documented Safari PDF flow and the documented JavaScript action should not be presented as confirmation of that exact automation.
If an image of the rendered page is essential, verify any proposed Shortcut against your iOS version and confirm that its resulting PDF actually contains the screenshot rather than a webpage-formatted PDF. Apple’s documentation reviewed here does not establish such a workflow.

Save a PDF that is already open in Safari
If Safari is displaying a PDF already, Apple documents saving it separately: open the PDF, tap Share, then choose Save to Files. This saves the existing PDF; it does not convert an arbitrary screenshot into a PDF.

Markup or Save File To is missing
Open Safari’s page menu or Share menu and look for Markup. The entry point differs by Safari layout. The cited Apple guide documents the page-menu-or-Share route, but not every possible interface variation.

The Shortcut does not receive the webpage
Launch the Shortcut from Safari’s share sheet while the webpage is open, and ensure its input accepts Safari webpages. When a Shortcut is launched from an app, that app’s shared input is passed to its first action.

Run JavaScript on Webpage does not run
Check that Allow Running Scripts is enabled in Shortcuts settings, that the action receives an active Safari webpage, and that the script finishes within the action’s time limit.
The saved PDF is not a screenshot
That is expected from Safari’s documented webpage-to-PDF flow: Apple describes saving the webpage as a PDF, not capturing the rendered screen as an image. The cited documentation does not confirm an automatic screenshot-to-PDF Shortcut.
