Yes—for a continuous loop of prerecorded videos, Gyre can replace OBS as the tool sending the stream to YouTube. Gyre stores uploaded files and streams them from its cloud, so your computer does not have to stay on. It is not a proven replacement for OBS when you need camera inputs, custom scenes, graphics, or hands-on live production.
What “replace OBS” means in this case
YouTube lists Gyre among cloud services for continuous prerecorded-video streams in its encoder guidance. In this narrower workflow, Gyre takes over the stream-source role: it plays your uploaded videos and sends the broadcast from its cloud infrastructure. A local OBS setup instead depends on a computer running the playback and sending the stream.
That is a task-specific substitution, not evidence of full feature parity. If you use OBS to combine a camera, microphones, graphics, browser sources, scenes, or live interaction, the available information does not establish that Gyre can reproduce that production setup. You may still need OBS for those jobs.
How Gyre’s prerecorded-stream workflow works
- Prepare your video files. Upload the actual source files to Gyre Storage. Gyre’s help article says that even videos already published on YouTube must be uploaded to Gyre for this workflow; a YouTube URL or playlist by itself is not the source material. See Gyre’s video preparation guide. Its detailed encoding recommendations may have changed, so check current YouTube and Gyre guidance rather than treating older technical values as current requirements.
- Build a playlist. Arrange the uploaded videos in the order you want. Gyre describes the playlist looping when it reaches the end.
- Connect the YouTube channel. Gyre describes an API authorization route that can create the broadcast, bind a stream key, and send metadata such as the title, description, tags, and thumbnail. Manual configuration with a YouTube stream key and RTMP address is also available.
- Set the broadcast details and launch. Check the destination, title, description, thumbnail, and stream state before starting. Once launched, the stream is sent from Gyre’s cloud rather than from your home computer.
Gyre describes its service as automating continuous playback, stream restarts, and scheduling. These are vendor-described features, not a guarantee that every interruption or account issue will be resolved automatically.

Check YouTube access and monetization settings
Channel eligibility
For the API workflow, Gyre’s September 2026 update says the channel must be verified, live streaming must be enabled, and the channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Confirm the channel’s current status and YouTube’s current requirements before depending on API authorization; eligibility conditions can change.
Monetization defaults
Gyre says broadcasts created by third-party tools may not automatically use the channel’s monetization settings unless the YouTube Studio option to apply monetization defaults to third-party streams is enabled. Check that setting if relevant. Neither using Gyre nor enabling a setting guarantees revenue.

Content rights and YouTube policies
Use videos and audio you have the rights to stream, and follow YouTube’s current copyright and live-streaming rules. The available sources do not establish a blanket policy ruling for every continuous stream or reuse of previously published material. A stream being technically live does not itself establish that its content is permitted or eligible for monetization.
Gyre versus OBS for this specific job
| Decision point | Gyre | OBS workflow |
|---|---|---|
| Where playback and stream sending happen | Gyre’s cloud infrastructure; the creator’s computer need not carry the outgoing stream. | On the locally operated desktop setup being compared. |
| Source material | Video files must be uploaded to Gyre Storage, including files previously published on YouTube. | Playback and source configuration are managed locally. |
| Best fit | A continuous loop of prerecorded videos. | A workflow requiring local control or production elements such as live inputs and scenes. |
| YouTube setup | API authorization can automate broadcast creation and metadata; manual stream-key setup is also supported. | Stream configuration is managed in the local encoder workflow. |
| Price established here | Gyre’s pricing page displays a seven-day trial and paid plans beginning at $49 per month; see the limits below. | A current OBS price is not established by the available sources. |
Choose based on the workflow you actually need, rather than assuming one tool replaces the other in every situation. If you only need to keep uploaded files looping, Gyre addresses that job. If you rely on OBS for a custom live production, compare those specific requirements before switching.

Gyre trial, plans, and limits
Gyre’s pricing page, accessed in 2026, displays a seven-day free trial with one HD stream, 20 GB of storage for up to 15 files, and a Gyre watermark during the trial. The same page shows paid subscriptions beginning at $49 per month. A Gyre product update published in September 2026 describes its paid range as $49–$169 per month and says concurrent stream counts vary by plan. These are vendor-published terms, not independent test results; confirm the current plan details on Gyre’s pricing page before subscribing.
Compare the plan’s storage, stream quality, concurrency, and watermark conditions against your intended playlist and schedule. The trial’s stated one-stream and storage limits may not fit a larger library or multiple simultaneous channels.
