No. AWS documents Elemental MediaPackage as a service that packages and originates streams, not as a playback engine that repeatedly plays a prerecorded file. To make prerecorded video appear as a continuous live broadcast, looping must happen in an upstream playout or encoding component that produces a live stream. MediaPackage may be used afterward if you need its packaging and delivery functions.
What MediaPackage does in a live workflow
AWS describes MediaPackage as a just-in-time packaging and origination service for live, video-on-demand (VOD), live-to-VOD, and catch-up TV use cases. In its documented live flow, an upstream encoder sends a live HLS stream to MediaPackage. A player or content delivery network (CDN) requests an output from a MediaPackage endpoint, which dynamically packages the stream according to endpoint settings and serves it over HTTPS. AWS’s live setup guide describes the channel as the input for live content from an encoder and the endpoint as the output for players or downstream CDNs. You can associate multiple endpoints with one channel for different output settings or formats. That architecture makes MediaPackage a packaging-and-delivery stage, not a documented file playback scheduler.
Where prerecorded playback and looping belong
The component before MediaPackage must turn the prerecorded material into a continuous live stream. AWS names Elemental MediaLive as one possible upstream encoder. Its input documentation lists MP4 as a VOD input, and identifies HLS as live or VOD depending on its buffer-segment setting. It also lists TS files as supported static file inputs, with MP4 and HLS paths available from HTTP(S) servers or Amazon S3. These input options show that MediaLive can ingest certain prerecorded assets; they do not establish that it automatically repeats a file indefinitely. A defensible high-level design is therefore:
- Playout or encoding: use a component configured to play the prerecorded material continuously and emit a live stream.
- Optional packaging: send that live stream to MediaPackage if you need its packaging and origination capabilities.
- Delivery to YouTube: use an output and ingest route that YouTube currently supports.
The AWS documentation cited above does not establish a specific MediaLive repeat setting for a file, nor does it settle whether MediaPackage belongs between your encoder and YouTube.
What the AWS documentation does not establish about YouTube Live
The AWS pages describe AWS service roles and input types; they do not verify YouTube’s current ingest protocol, accepted endpoint formats, or a direct MediaPackage-to-YouTube integration. Do not assume that a MediaPackage endpoint can be entered as YouTube’s ingest URL. Before building the destination side, check YouTube’s current official live-streaming and encoder requirements for the protocol and configuration you intend to use. Without that verification, a complete AWS-to-YouTube recipe would be guesswork.
