Yes. AWS Elemental MediaLive can stream an MP4 file continuously to YouTube: create a file input, attach it to a channel, and set Source end behavior to LOOP. MediaLive starts the file again when it reaches the end, provided the channel and YouTube destination remain operational.
How MediaLive loops an MP4 for YouTube
MediaLive treats an MP4 as a video-on-demand (VOD) file input, not as a live source. It ingests and transcodes the file, then sends the channel output to the configured destination. AWS supports pulling an MP4 from an Amazon S3 bucket or an HTTP(S) server. AWS documents file inputs and their source-end behavior; its file input setup guidance covers supported source locations.
The setting that causes repetition is Source end behavior: LOOP. AWS describes it in the API reference as: “Input source end behavior. Loop input if it is a file. This allows a file input to be streamed indefinitely.” See the MediaLive InputAttachment API reference.
Set up the continuous stream
- Make the MP4 available. Store it in an Amazon S3 bucket or make it reachable from an HTTP(S) endpoint. For an S3 input, AWS’s example URL format is
s3ssl://bucket-name/object-key.mp4. - Create the MediaLive input. Choose an MP4 file input and specify its source location. Attach that input to the channel you will use for the stream.
- Enable looping. In the input attachment settings, set Source end behavior to LOOP. Without that behavior, the file does not restart automatically at its end.
- Configure the YouTube output. Use the ingest protocol and current destination details shown for the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. AWS has published a MediaLive-to-YouTube workflow example, but the appropriate endpoint and account-specific values must come from your current YouTube setup.
- Start the channel and verify it. Check the YouTube live control room for stream health and confirm that playback begins. Continue monitoring the channel and destination; LOOP repeats the source file, but does not guarantee that the channel or destination stays online.
What to check before relying on it
- Source availability: The S3 object or HTTP(S) file must remain accessible to MediaLive. Confirm the location and access configuration before starting the channel.
- Destination values: Use the current ingest protocol, endpoint, and stream details supplied for your YouTube stream. AWS’s published workflow is guidance, not a replacement for the values shown in your account.
- Operational monitoring: MediaLive’s loop behavior handles the end of the file. It does not remove the need to monitor the MediaLive channel and YouTube stream.
AWS’s cited YouTube and prerecorded-video workflow examples date from 2021. Console labels, YouTube ingest options, and endpoint details may change, so check the current AWS documentation and YouTube Live Control Room while implementing.
