Yes. Under an expanded Atmel–Mentor Graphics agreement announced on December 13, 2004, Precision RTL Synthesis was integrated into Atmel’s FPSLIC FPGA and ProChip Designer CPLD development systems. The agreement also covered ModelSim simulation for Atmel CPLDs and continued ModelSim and Seamless co-verification support for FPSLIC users. This is a historical announcement, not confirmation of current software availability or support.
What the 2004 Atmel–Mentor Graphics agreement included
EE Times reported that Atmel Corporation and Mentor Graphics Corporation expanded a multi-year OEM relationship for synthesis, simulation and verification tools. Precision RTL Synthesis was added to Atmel’s FPSLIC FPGA and ProChip Designer CPLD development systems. ModelSim support extended to all Atmel CPLD devices, while FPSLIC users retained support for ModelSim and Seamless co-verification. EE Times announcement
Precision RTL Synthesis was presented as a professional design tool with ASIC-strength static timing analysis and project-management features intended to help engineers analyze, diagnose and resolve complex design issues. Mentor Graphics said it was optimizing support for Atmel CPLDs and FPSLIC FPGAs. The announcement anticipated extended device support in a later release and new development-system configurations the following year; those were plans at the time, not evidence of present-day releases.
Which Atmel platforms were covered?
| Platform | Role in the announcement | Tools named |
|---|---|---|
| FPSLIC FPGA development systems | Atmel devices combining programmable logic, memory and a microcontroller | Precision RTL Synthesis, ModelSim and Seamless |
| ProChip Designer CPLD development systems | Atmel CPLD design | Precision RTL Synthesis and ModelSim support for Atmel CPLDs |
FPSLIC: integrated logic and microcontroller
Atmel described the AT94K and AT94S FPSLIC families as SRAM-based monolithic devices combining programmable logic, memory and a microcontroller. AT94S added serial configuration memory. That enabled in-system programming and remote updates, while protecting FPGA and AVR microcontroller code, according to the announcement.

ATF15xx: CPLD specifications cited
The same announcement described ATF15xx CPLDs as pin-compatible supersets of popular 7000- and 3000-series devices. Its published specifications were:
- Macrocells: 32–128; 256 was described as coming soon, so it was a planned capacity rather than an established device specification in that announcement.
- Propagation delay: 7.5–15 ns for 5 V standard-power versions; 15 ns for 3.3 V versions.
- Programming: JTAG in-system programming across the family.
What the announcement does—and does not—establish today
The announcement documents the tools’ integration and support scope in 2004. It does not establish whether Precision RTL Synthesis, ModelSim, Seamless, the Atmel development systems or the cited devices can currently be licensed, purchased, downloaded or supported. Designers evaluating a legacy project should verify present-day licensing, hardware supply, device documentation and tool compatibility independently before planning a new design or maintenance workflow.
