Cosmetic fading is generally excluded from warranty coverage unless it resulted from a defect in materials or workmanship under the applicable warranty. Apple must inspect the phone to assess the cause and determine any service fee.
Is a fading iPhone finish covered by Apple’s warranty?
Not automatically. Apple’s warranty terms generally exclude cosmetic damage and deterioration from normal wear or aging. In the United States, Apple’s warranty says the cosmetic-damage exclusion does not apply when the damage results from a defect in materials or workmanship. That is US warranty language, not a guarantee that every country uses identical terms. Check the warranty applicable to your country or region.
Apple describes its one-year limited warranty as covering manufacturing issues and says warranty coverage is additional to consumer-law rights in the customer’s country or region. Your eligibility can therefore depend on where you bought or use the phone, whether its coverage is still active, what caused the finish to fade, and any local consumer protections.
Will Apple repair or replace a discolored iPhone?
Apple makes that decision after assessing the specific device. Its service page says, “We’ll need to inspect your product to provide a personalized estimate.” The published service information does not promise a finish-only repair or replacement. The outcome and any fee depend on the inspection and the applicable coverage.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Before approving paid service, ask Apple or the service provider whether the assessment is covered and what the proposed service will cost. Apple says the final fee is determined after inspection.
How to ask Apple to assess the fading
- Document the change. Photograph the affected areas in good light. Note when you first noticed the fading and which parts of the phone are affected.
- Gather purchase and coverage details. Keep your proof of purchase and check the iPhone’s current coverage before contacting support.
- Contact Apple or arrange an inspection. Use Apple Support to discuss the issue or book in-person service with an Apple Store Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Apple also lists mail-in service. Options vary by location and parts availability.
- Confirm charges before authorizing work. Ask what the assessment covers and what, if anything, you will pay if the issue is not covered.
Can a case fix the fading?
No. A case made for the exact iPhone model can cover the affected finish and help protect the exterior, but it will not restore the finish or determine whether Apple will provide warranty service.

- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Apple warranty wording and regional terms
Apple’s US warranty lists cosmetic damage among exclusions, with an exception when the damage results from a defect in materials or workmanship. Apple also publishes separate warranty terms for other regions, including EMEA English. Read the terms for your location rather than assuming the US wording applies worldwide.
