Not officially. An RTX 4070 Ti can use some DLSS 4 upgrades, but NVIDIA reserves its Multi Frame Generation (MFG) override for RTX 50-series GPUs. A reported, unofficial workaround has exposed MFG on an RTX 40-series card, but the hands-on coverage supplied here tested an RTX 4070 Super—not an RTX 4070 Ti. That distinction matters: the workaround does not turn a 4070 Ti into a Blackwell GPU or establish reliable, supported performance on that exact model.
What “DLSS 4” means for an RTX 4070 Ti
DLSS 4 is a group of features, not a single switch that is either enabled or unavailable by GPU generation. NVIDIA says its transformer-model upgrades for Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, and DLAA are available to all GeForce RTX users. Its upgraded Frame Generation model covers RTX 40- and 50-series cards. The NVIDIA App’s MFG override, however, is limited to RTX 50-series users, according to NVIDIA Support’s DLSS 4 override instructions.
For the RTX 4070 Ti, that means DLSS 4 can still bring supported model upgrades, but the officially supported MFG override is not among them. NVIDIA’s comparison of the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 5070 Ti labels conventional Frame Generation for the RTX 40-series and Multi Frame Gen (4X Mode) for RTX 50-series cards: NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series comparison.
What Multi Frame Generation adds—and what it does not
NVIDIA describes MFG as generating up to three AI-created frames for each traditionally rendered frame. That is the source of its “up to” 4X mode designation; it is not a promise that every game, GPU, or scene will produce four times the native rendering performance. Displayed frame rate can include generated frames, so it should be judged alongside image quality, responsiveness, and the underlying rendered frame rate.

NVIDIA’s stated technical explanation is that DLSS 4 changes the network architecture and uses capabilities of Blackwell GPUs, including fifth-generation Tensor Cores. NVIDIA Research says the new MFG architecture “splits the neural component of DLSS 3’s Frame Generation in half,” reusing part of the network across an input-frame pair and running a smaller portion for each generated output frame. NVIDIA says this design is intended to meet latency targets and improve flow estimation. See NVIDIA Research’s DLSS 4 technical explanation.
Those design choices explain NVIDIA’s generation divide; they do not prove that MFG could never run in any form on older hardware. An unofficial software path may expose behavior that NVIDIA does not support, but it cannot add Blackwell hardware or establish feature parity. NVIDIA’s January 2025 announcement describes the feature and hardware context at NVIDIA Newsroom.

What the RTX 40-series workaround is—and its risks
PC Gamer reported an unofficial installation flow that uses ReShade HDR Installer to install “RTX 40 MFG” and “OptiScaler,” then applies a profile override. The report advises checking that the game supports MFG. These are third-party files and configuration changes, not an NVIDIA-approved setup; compatibility can vary with the game, driver, app, and mod versions. Read the reported procedure and caveats in PC Gamer’s RTX 40-series MFG how-to.
Anti-cheat warning: The report cautions that unofficial files can trigger anti-cheat detection and recommends choosing a single-player game. That does not establish that every anti-cheat system will flag the files, nor that multiplayer use is safe. Do not try the workaround in a competitive or protected online game unless the game’s publisher explicitly confirms it is permitted.

What has—and has not—been shown on a 4070 Ti
The available hands-on report is on an RTX 4070 Super. Its author said the unofficial unlock felt smooth in their experience, while also noting that even official MFG on RTX 50-series can bring blurry frames and latency concerns. Those observations are reporter-specific; they are not measurements for an RTX 4070 Ti. The coverage also notes that game support and the selected multiplier matter, and some games do not offer every multiplier. See PC Gamer’s RTX 4070 Super hands-on report.
NVIDIA Research provides separate, launch-era timing examples: around 3.25 ms for one 4K DLSS 3 generated frame on an RTX 4090, and around 1 ms on average for each of three DLSS 4 generated frames on an RTX 5090 at launch. These are NVIDIA’s figures for those GPUs and conditions, not independent benchmarks and not evidence of RTX 4070 Ti performance.

| Choice | Support and compatibility | Image quality, latency, and risk | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keep using the RTX 4070 Ti with supported DLSS features | Official support applies to the DLSS upgrades NVIDIA makes available to RTX users and the conventional Frame Generation model for RTX 40-series. MFG override remains RTX 50-series-only. | No unofficial MFG files or their associated anti-cheat and update risks. Image quality and responsiveness still depend on the game and settings. | When your current performance meets your needs or you prefer supported features. |
| Try the unofficial MFG path | Unofficial; a PC Gamer report describes the workflow and hands-on experience on a 4070 Super. Exact RTX 4070 Ti reliability across games and versions is not established. | Generated frames may affect clarity and responsiveness; compatibility and anti-cheat detection are risks. Driver, game, or mod updates may change behavior. | Only for cautious experimentation in a supported single-player game, after weighing those risks. |
| Move to an RTX 50-series GPU | NVIDIA officially assigns the MFG override to RTX 50-series users; its product comparison identifies 4X MFG for the RTX 5070 Ti. | Official eligibility does not remove the need to assess game support, image quality, latency, or whether the performance gain suits your target resolution and refresh rate. | When official MFG support is a priority and the upgrade fits your budget and performance goals. |
NVIDIA’s RTX comparison presents results for specific games, settings, and feature modes, not a universal ranking. It is useful for checking the RTX 5070 Ti against the RTX 4070 Ti, but the feature label alone does not establish that an upgrade is worthwhile for every player.
