Yes—an Intel Mac mini can send a YouTube livestream using OBS, but whether it can handle your particular stream continuously depends on the Mac’s model, workload, network, and monitoring. OBS recommends x264 for streaming from Intel Macs; its Intel VideoToolbox support is for recording, not streaming. Treat a 24/7 setup as something to test and maintain, not as guaranteed unattended service.
What determines whether your Mac mini can handle the stream?
“Intel Mac mini” covers multiple generations and configurations, so there is no reliable yes-or-no performance verdict without the exact model and stream settings. Apple’s specifications for the 2018 Mac mini, for example, list a 3.6GHz quad-core Core i3 configuration, six-core Core i5 and configurable six-core Core i7 options, Intel UHD Graphics 630, and memory configurations up to 64GB. Those specifications apply to that model, not every Intel Mac mini. Apple’s 2018 Mac mini technical specifications can help identify its configuration.
OBS lists Intel or Apple Silicon CPUs, an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU, and macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later among its basic macOS requirements. Meeting those requirements establishes compatibility, not capacity: OBS warns, “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” Its stated workload factors include encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. A simple, mostly static scene places a different demand on the computer than multiple live sources, animated overlays, browser sources, filters, or capture devices. That is a reason to test your actual setup, not evidence that a particular Mac mini has been benchmarked for it.

Which OBS encoder should you use on an Intel Mac?
For OBS streaming on an Intel Mac, use x264. OBS says Intel Mac VideoToolbox streaming is unsupported because it does not provide the constant-bitrate support required by most streaming services. Its separate support for Intel Mac H.264 VideoToolbox applies to recording; do not mistake it for support in an OBS YouTube livestream. OBS Hardware Encoding
Although hardware encoding can move work away from the CPU in supported situations, that general advantage does not override OBS’s specific Intel Mac streaming guidance. Keep the scene and output settings manageable, then check the stream in a representative test.

Recommended YouTube encoder settings and network checks
YouTube’s recommendations help you configure the feed, but they do not guarantee that a Mac mini can encode it or that your connection can sustain it. Choose quality to fit your upload capacity, test before going live, and watch YouTube’s stream-health messages. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate recommendations

YouTube transcodes incoming streams into output formats for viewers on different devices and networks. That does not reduce the need for your encoder to send a stable feed at the settings you choose.

If the Mac and router support it, wired Ethernet is a sensible connection option. Apple lists Gigabit Ethernet on the 2018 Mac mini. A cable can connect the Mac to a wired network, but it cannot create upload bandwidth, prevent ISP outages, or guarantee a stable connection.
How to test a 24/7 setup before relying on it
- Identify the Mac and software. Check the Mac mini’s model and processor, confirm that its macOS version meets OBS’s listed macOS requirement, and install a compatible OBS version.
- Build the real scene. Include the sources, overlays, filters, audio, and other elements you intend to use; scene complexity affects workload.
- Configure OBS for Intel streaming. Select x264 for streaming, set a manageable resolution and frame rate, use CBR, and configure a two-second keyframe interval.
- Match the YouTube ingest settings. Use a suitable codec and bitrate, and prefer RTMPS where available. YouTube’s bitrate figures are recommendations, not a Mac performance test.
- Check the connection and test the feed. Run an upload speed test, then test with representative audio and video movement before the planned broadcast.
- Monitor stream health. Watch YouTube’s health indicators and messages during the test and while the feed is running. Plan how you will respond to a dropped connection, power loss, or software problem.
YouTube says first-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming ahead of a planned launch. Its statement that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived describes shorter-stream archiving; it does not promise that a 24/7 feed will be preserved as one complete recording, nor does it say that a longer stream cannot remain live. What a Mac-based 24/7 stream does—and does not—guarantee
There is no official guarantee in the cited Apple, OBS, or YouTube guidance that a particular Intel Mac mini can run unattended without interruption. The computer, encoding workload, local power, internet connection, software, and response to failures all affect real-world continuity. A successful short test is useful, but it cannot certify uninterrupted operation indefinitely.
For a 24/7 feed of prerecorded video, YouTube’s verified-encoder directory lists a cloud service and describes it as supporting continuous streams of prerecorded videos. That establishes cloud hosting as an alternative category, not a guarantee of any provider’s price, uptime, or suitability. Compare whether the source is live or prerecorded, where the stream is hosted, dependence on your local computer and connection, recovery and monitoring arrangements, target quality, and current service terms.
