Not reliably. A licence does not guarantee that YouTube will let an overnight livestream run without interruption or a later Content ID claim. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and says a stream can be interrupted even when the creator has licensed the material if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. For bhajan recordings, you may also need permission for both the recording and the underlying music and lyrics, with separate terms for livestreaming and any replay.
Why a licensed bhajan stream can still be interrupted
YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content. If its system identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, issue a warning, temporarily interrupt it, or terminate it if the content remains. YouTube Help specifically warns: “If your channel isn’t added to their allowlist, your live stream can be interrupted even if you’ve licensed the third-party content.” Ask the relevant rights holder or its Content ID administrator to add the exact channel to its allowlist before the broadcast.
Allowlisting addresses the platform’s handling of matched content; it is not a substitute for permission. Conversely, having permission does not guarantee that a match will not occur. YouTube may also place a Content ID claim on an archived livestream after it ends. A claim or interruption is a platform action, not by itself a court finding that copyright was infringed.
Which rights may be involved in an Indian bhajan recording?
A recording can contain more than one protected layer. IPRS explains that its licences concern the musical and literary works in its repertoire, while sound-recording rights may need to be obtained from the recording owner or administrator. The exact rights holders depend on the track and the relevant contracts; an IPRS licence alone should not be assumed to clear the recording.

IPRS says its public song database is updated constantly but may not be exhaustive. A missing listing therefore does not prove that a song is outside its repertoire or free to use. Check the database and contact IPRS for repertoire feedback where necessary, then confirm track-specific rights with the relevant parties.
What written permission should cover before you schedule an overnight stream
Build a clearance list for every recording rather than treating a playlist as one blanket permission. Get written confirmation that addresses the actual way the channel will use each track.

- Rights and parties: name the sound-recording owner or administrator and the parties covering the composition and lyrics.
- Platform and format: specify YouTube livestreaming and the intended overnight duration. Ask for the channel’s exact YouTube identity to be allowlisted by the relevant Content ID owner or administrator.
- Territory: state whether viewers may watch only in India or worldwide. A geographic restriction does not replace the allowlist step YouTube describes.
- Commercial use: make clear whether monetization, ads, sponsorship or other revenue is permitted.
- After the live stream: state whether the completed broadcast may remain available as a replay, and for how long. Do not infer replay rights from permission to broadcast live.
- Evidence and response: retain permissions, track lists, allowlist confirmations and any instructions for resolving a claim. Make sure the person monitoring the stream can access them.
If a stream is interrupted, check YouTube Studio for the stated restriction or strike, stop or remove the flagged material as instructed, and use YouTube’s resolution process. Do not assume that a broadcast with no on-air warning will remain free of claims once archived.

Does the religious-ceremony exception cover an overnight YouTube feed?
The Copyright Office’s summary of section 52 describes an exception for performance or communication of a literary, dramatic or musical work, or a sound recording, in the course of a bona fide religious ceremony. That wording is limited: the summary does not establish that every devotional broadcast, monetized stream, or continuous overnight music feed qualifies. It also does not settle whether a particular channel’s format is a bona fide religious ceremony.

Do not rely on the exception simply because the songs are bhajans or the stream is devotional. Whether it applies depends on the specific facts; obtain advice on the planned program rather than treating it as a general exemption.
What the IPRS online-event tariff does—and does not—tell you
The IPRS online live-events tariff document describes licensing for live-streamed online events involving live music, music videos or DJ sound recordings. It says the licensee is responsible for obtaining additional licences required for exploitation of works or sound recordings, excludes synchronization licensing, and says later hosting or repackaging requires a separate applicable licence. It also labels itself as subject to member approval and states applicability from 1 July 2020. Confirm directly with IPRS whether the tariff is current and fits an overnight bhajan stream before relying on it.

The document lists minimum per-event fees of ₹20,000 for free, ad-supported or ticketed events without a sponsor up to two hours, and ₹30,000 for those events above two hours. For sponsored or sponsor-backed ticketed events, it lists ₹60,000 up to two hours and ₹1,00,000 above two hours. It states the fee is the greater of 5% of gross revenue and the applicable minimum. These are figures in a document dated as applicable from 1 July 2020, not a verified current quote for this stream; check current tariff, scope, taxes and eligibility with IPRS. A long overnight broadcast should not be costed by simply extrapolating those event figures.
