Yes, but only if the actual license expressly covers repeated, continuous live streaming on YouTube and the relevant rights, territories, term, monetization and any archived replay. Owning a track or having a general license is not enough to establish that permission. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party content, so even a permitted track can interrupt a stream if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID.
What “licensed” needs to cover
A license for a music track may authorize one use—such as including it in an uploaded video—without authorizing a 24/7 live broadcast. Check the license itself rather than relying on the word “licensed,” a purchase receipt, a free-use label or a credit in the video description. YouTube makes the streamer responsible for obtaining all necessary rights for live content. Its Livestream terms and conditions say those rights include music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants.
For a continuous YouTube stream, ask the licensor or rights administrator to confirm in writing that the permission covers:
- Use type: continuous and repeated live streaming on YouTube, not just use in an uploaded video.
- Rights covered: both the sound recording and the underlying composition, including any necessary permissions involving the label, publisher, performers and other royalty participants.
- Territories: every territory where the stream may be available. YouTube’s live terms refer to the necessary rights worldwide, subject to the applicable agreement and territory.
- Duration: the planned continuous-stream period, including any renewal requirements or expiry date.
- Monetization: whether the stream may earn revenue, if monetization is enabled.
- Archive or replay: whether the license also permits an archived recording or video-on-demand replay of the stream.
- Content ID handling: whether the owner will add the channel to its Content ID allowlist.
These are practical checks, not substitute contract language. The specific agreement controls. If its wording is unclear, ask the licensor or a qualified lawyer familiar with the relevant jurisdictions.

Creator Music does not license live streams
YouTube’s Creator Music is not a way to clear a track for a 24/7 live broadcast. YouTube’s Creator Music FAQ says it currently does not support licensing for live content. Its Creator Music usage guidance limits licensed or revenue-sharing tracks to eligible long-form video uses, not live streams or Shorts; most such licenses are for a single video.
Creator Music availability and eligibility can vary. YouTube’s FAQ describes availability for U.S. creators in the YouTube Partner Program, with expansion beyond the U.S. pending. YouTube also says it began phasing out paid Creator Music licenses in August 2026 in favor of gratis licenses; existing licenses remain subject to their terms and are not renewable under the old terms. Check the current Studio terms for a track, but do not treat this change as live-stream permission.

Permission and Content ID are separate checks
A valid license establishes permission under its terms; it does not necessarily prevent YouTube’s automated systems from detecting the music. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may warn you, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it or terminate it. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams recommends asking the content owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist if you have licensed the material.
Allowlisting can reduce the risk of an interruption caused by a Content ID match, but it is not a license and does not expand the rights you have. YouTube’s live Content ID matching feature is for eligible partners with global rights and exclusive ownership requirements; it is a rights-management tool, not permission for a streamer to use someone else’s music.

Check the archive as well as the live broadcast
If YouTube archives the stream, the replay is a separate use to verify against your license. YouTube says Content ID claims may be made after a live stream ends if the creator archives it. Confirm that the license covers the resulting recording and replay, not just the live transmission, and check whether its territory, term or monetization conditions differ.
Safer music choices for a continuous stream
YouTube recommends using its Audio Library, original music, Creator Music for eligible video uses, or third-party music whose license you have checked. For a live stream, verify the specific rights rather than assuming that a source’s “free” label or a required credit prevents a Content ID match. A credit does not itself grant rights or guarantee that the stream will not be interrupted.
