It can attract viewers, but there is no evidence that keeping a prerecorded stream live 24/7 automatically grows a YouTube channel. YouTube supports scheduled livestreams, but growth depends on whether viewers find the programming useful or enjoyable, return to watch, and engage. A continuous stream is worth testing when the format suits your content and you can keep it original, policy-compliant, and worth watching.
What a 24/7 stream can—and cannot—do for growth
A continuous stream gives viewers a live destination they can join at different times. That may fit ambient music, a rotating educational program, or other content people want to leave on. It does not establish that YouTube will recommend the channel more often or that viewers will subscribe simply because the stream is always available.
YouTube’s official guidance explains how to set up and schedule livestreams, but it does not claim that continuous prerecorded streaming boosts channel growth. There is also no official head-to-head comparison here showing that a 24/7 stream outperforms regular uploads. Treat growth as a hypothesis to test with your own channel’s data, not a platform promise.
When the format may suit your channel
- Your viewers have a reason to tune in for an ongoing experience rather than a single, discrete video.
- You can provide enough original, varied material to make the stream worthwhile over time.
- Scheduling, notifications, or live chat fit how your audience discovers and uses your content.
- You can monitor the stream and assess viewer response without neglecting your other publishing work.
When regular uploads may be a better fit
If viewers mainly want a particular song, lesson, review, or other standalone item, a searchable, individually packaged upload may serve them better than a long-running loop. Use your audience’s behavior—not the stream’s uptime—as the deciding evidence.

How to test whether the stream is helping
Make the experiment measurable before you launch. Compare the stream’s results with your own ordinary uploads over a meaningful period. The right period depends on how often you publish and how much audience activity your channel gets; YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe a test duration.
- Set a specific outcome. Decide whether you want more returning viewers, subscribers, watch time, or another audience outcome. Do not treat ad revenue per hour as proof of channel growth.
- Record a baseline. Note comparable performance from your existing uploads and the period covered. Keep the comparison as consistent as you reasonably can.
- Give the stream a clear purpose. Make its title and description tell viewers what the ongoing program offers. Use a schedule when it helps people anticipate the stream.
- Review the audience response. In YouTube Analytics, compare relevant measures such as views, watch time, subscribers, and returning-viewer behavior with your baseline. Consider whether viewers return and whether the stream supports your channel as a whole.
- Decide whether to continue. Keep it only if the results and workload make sense for your goals. If viewers do not return or the stream distracts from stronger content, revise the format or stop it.
Keep prerecorded programming original and monetization-safe
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams as well as long-form videos and Shorts. They say monetized content should be original and authentic, not generic, repetitive, or mass-produced. YouTube reviews a channel as a whole; factors it may consider include the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, share of watch time, metadata, and About section. A repetitive 24/7 loop deserves careful consideration, but the policy does not say every loop is automatically disallowed.

Reused content is not the same question as copyright
YouTube describes reused content as material repurposed from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Its examples of potentially qualifying transformation include critical review, changed dialogue with a voiceover, explanation of sports moves, commentary, and edits that add a storyline. Permission to use material—or choosing a copyright-safe source—does not by itself establish that it meets the reused-content standard. Copyright and other policies still apply.
In a July 10, 2025 clarification, Sarah of TeamYouTube said, “These guidelines apply regardless of how the content was made.” The same clarification explained that the policy renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that the longstanding rule covers mass-produced or repetitive content. It also distinguished reused content: it can continue to monetize when significant original commentary, modifications, or educational or entertainment value has been added. What scheduling can do for discovery
YouTube lets creators schedule livestreams, edit their metadata, and reuse settings from an earlier stream. A scheduled stream may appear as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can choose “Notify me.” YouTube also describes notifications for scheduled streams starting within the next 24 hours. Those are discovery opportunities, not a guarantee of views or recommendations. Its live settings guidance says tags have a minimal discovery role except when a title or topic is commonly misspelled; do not rely on tags as a primary growth tactic. Potentially, if the channel and stream meet the relevant requirements. YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships for livestreams; eligibility varies by feature. Shopping and YouTube Premium are among the broader ways eligible creators may earn. Availability of a monetization feature should not be mistaken for guaranteed income.

YouTube says pre-roll and display ads turn on automatically when monetization is enabled for a livestream, while mid-rolls can be automatic or manual. It cautions that “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve.” Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue for livestream videos requires YouTube Partner Program participation and acceptance of the Watch Page Monetization Module. Consult YouTube’s guidance on monetizing a livestream, choosing how to monetize, and ways to earn on YouTube for the applicable requirements.
YouTube has reported that creators who chose automatic live mid-roll ads saw an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels without that setting. The reported comparison covered 207 countries in January 2024. It concerns ad revenue per hour—not subscriber growth, watch time, a causal effect, or prerecorded 24/7 streams specifically—so it is not an earnings or growth forecast for your channel.

Keep the stream running: do it yourself or use the cloud
YouTube’s live settings guidance covers streams using an encoder or mobile device. For a continuous prerecorded program, choose a workflow that can supply the planned content, keep the stream available, and let you manage its schedule and metadata. The official setup material does not establish that any particular computer, encoder, stream length, or configuration improves growth. Whatever method you use, follow YouTube’s stream setup guidance and check performance in your own Analytics.
