Yes. A 24/7 YouTube stream can earn money if its channel is eligible for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), the creator enables monetization for the live stream, and the creator accepts the Watch Page Monetization Module for Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue. An ad blocker may stop ads from appearing for a viewer using one, but YouTube’s guidance does not say that ad blockers disqualify an otherwise eligible channel. Neither continuous streaming nor monetization settings guarantee that an ad will serve or that every view earns revenue.

What an ad blocker changes—and what it does not

YouTube says viewers using ad-blocking software or browser extensions may not see ads. For a 24/7 stream, that can mean fewer ad opportunities in sessions affected by blockers. YouTube does not publish a blocker-specific revenue-loss percentage, and its documentation does not establish how much a particular channel loses because of ad blockers.

A blocker affecting one viewer’s ad delivery is different from a channel losing YPP eligibility. Eligibility, monetization settings, policy compliance, and whether an ad is served are separate questions. YouTube may also show ads on content from creators who are not eligible to share in the revenue, so seeing an ad—or seeing a stream remain online continuously—does not prove the creator earns from every view. YouTube Partner Program overview

What a channel needs to earn from a live stream

  • YPP eligibility: The channel must qualify for the YouTube Partner Program and comply with its terms and monetization policies.
  • Watch Page monetization: The creator must accept the Watch Page Monetization Module to earn Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue.
  • Live-stream monetization: Monetization must be enabled for the stream. YouTube’s policies apply to live streams as well as other video formats.
  • Rights and advertiser suitability: The stream and its content must meet the applicable copyright, originality, and advertiser-suitability requirements.
  • Valid traffic: Avoid traffic-boosting schemes and never ask viewers to click ads. YouTube says invalid traffic can result in revenue adjustments, ad limits, payment delays, or loss of monetization.

Eligibility and feature availability depend on YouTube’s current terms and the channel’s circumstances. Check the applicable requirements in YouTube’s YPP guidance and monetization policies.

How live-stream ads are delivered

With monetization enabled, pre-roll and display ads are automatically turned on. For mid-rolls, creators can choose automatic placement, scheduled breaks, or manual placement. YouTube’s systems decide whether an ad slot serves; viewers may receive ads at different times, and if no ad runs, they can continue watching the stream. As YouTube Help puts it: “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” Monetize your live stream

Automatic, scheduled, and manual mid-rolls

  • Automatic: YouTube recommends automatic mid-rolls. Creators may use the Live Control Room’s delay feature for automatic mid-rolls during important moments.
  • Scheduled: YouTube describes scheduled breaks at 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minute intervals. A schedule creates potential ad opportunities, not a promise that an ad will run at each break.
  • Manual: A creator can insert breaks manually. These also do not guarantee ad delivery.

Choose settings with the viewing experience in mind: frequent potential breaks may interrupt a continuous program, while fewer breaks mean fewer planned opportunities. Check the current Live Control Room options and the stream’s Analytics rather than assuming a fixed cadence or yield.

What YouTube’s automatic mid-roll comparison means

YouTube reported that creators who chose live automatic mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour. This was a YouTube-reported comparison of channels with the feature enabled against channels without it across 207 countries, based on a January 2024 measurement. It is not a guarantee for an individual channel, does not estimate ad-blocker losses, and does not by itself establish that automatic mid-rolls caused the difference.

How to check what your stream earns

  1. Open YouTube Analytics for your channel and review revenue for the relevant period.
  2. Use the Live filter to examine live-stream and live-replay ad revenue.
  3. Compare periods and streams in context; Analytics does not identify ad-blocker-attributed losses in the reviewed metrics.

RPM is a creator-focused measure of total revenue after revenue share across the listed sources. Playback-based CPM is an advertiser-focused measure related to monetized playbacks and advertiser spend before revenue share. Neither metric, as described in YouTube’s guidance, isolates the effect of ad blockers. Understand ad revenue analytics

Other YouTube revenue options

Depending on eligibility and feature terms, YPP may offer revenue from YouTube Premium, channel memberships, Super Chat and Super Stickers, Super Thanks, and Shopping. These are possible ways to diversify a channel’s revenue; they do not mean that a viewer whose ad blocker prevents an ad from appearing necessarily generates any of these other forms of revenue. Check feature access and terms in YouTube’s monetization features guidance.

Keep a 24/7 stream running without leaving a computer on

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud. It is not a camera-based live broadcast service. An ad blocker does not change the service’s core role: it keeps the stream running, while YouTube controls monetization eligibility and ad delivery.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required; one free day is available per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.

StreamNeo supports YouTube only. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
