Yes, if the exact Creative Commons (CC) license permits your planned use. For a monetized channel, the music must allow commercial use; a license with the NonCommercial (NC) condition is not enough unless you obtain separate permission. You also need to follow the license’s attribution and adaptation terms, clear the rights to the actual recording and all its elements, and meet YouTube’s separate monetization rules. A CC license does not guarantee that a 24/7 channel will be approved for monetization or avoid a live-stream interruption.
Check the specific Creative Commons license first
“Creative Commons” is not one blanket permission. Check the license name and version attached to each track, then match its conditions to what you plan to do: stream it continuously, monetize the channel, and possibly edit, mix, synchronize, or loop it. All six standard CC licenses require attribution, but they differ on commercial use and adaptations.
| License condition | What it means for a lofi livestream |
|---|---|
| CC BY | Commercial reuse and adaptations are allowed with attribution. Follow the license’s conditions. |
| CC BY-SA | Commercial reuse and adaptations are allowed with attribution. If your use creates adapted material, ShareAlike requires that material to be offered under the same or a compatible license. |
| CC BY-ND | Commercial redistribution is allowed, but adaptations are not. Do not assume that a particular sync, edit, loop, or mix is unadapted; that depends on the facts and applicable law. |
| CC BY-NC | The NonCommercial condition restricts use to noncommercial purposes. If the channel may earn revenue, get separate permission for commercial use. |
| CC BY-NC-SA | NonCommercial restricts commercial use; ShareAlike also applies if an adaptation is permitted and made. Get separate commercial permission before monetizing. |
| CC BY-NC-ND | NonCommercial restricts commercial use, and NoDerivatives restricts adaptations. Get separate commercial permission and confirm that the planned use is allowed. |
Revenue is not limited to ad income: if you intend to monetize the channel or otherwise use it commercially, make sure the permission covers that use. YouTube says, “You can monetize Creative Commons content if the license agreement grants you rights to use it commercially.” That is a rights requirement, not a promise that YouTube will approve a particular channel for monetization.
Clear the actual recording, not just the track title
A CC label only helps if the person offering the license controls the rights they are offering. A music track can involve separate rights in its composition and its particular recording, along with samples, performers, or collaborators. Before scheduling a track, check that the licensor has authority over the relevant rights and that any included samples or contributions are cleared for your intended use.

- Save a copy of the license page or written permission, including the license name and version and the date you checked it.
- Confirm the permission covers commercial YouTube use if the channel may run ads, receive sponsorship, or otherwise generate revenue. For an NC track, obtain separate written commercial permission.
- Check whether your planned looping, editing, mixing, or synchronization is allowed, especially under ND or SA terms. When the terms or effect of a change are unclear, ask the rights holder for written clarification rather than treating every loop as automatically permitted.
- Keep any permission and rights-holder correspondence with the track’s records so you can respond to a claim or interruption.
Attribute every track clearly
Follow the license’s specific attribution terms. YouTube recommends crediting the work title, author, source URL, and license information. Put the credit in a reasonable place, such as the livestream description, and retain it in the archived stream description where applicable. YouTube Audio Library tracks marked with a Creative Commons license also require attribution in the description.
A useful credit includes the track title, creator, source link, and exact license name and version. Do not rely on a vague “music by” line when the license requires more detail, and keep the license record separately in case a description is changed or a dispute arises.
Expect Content ID checks during and after a live stream
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; if the content remains, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. YouTube specifically warns that a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel has not been added to the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist.
- Before using a licensed third-party track live, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
- Keep written permission and any allowlist confirmation. A license and an allowlist address different risks; having one does not establish that the other is in place.
- Check the archived stream for claims after the broadcast. Content ID claims may be made after a live stream ends and is archived.
- Maintain a fallback playlist made up of tracks whose rights and platform terms you have documented, so you can replace a disputed track.
An allowlist request does not replace checking the license, and a license does not guarantee that YouTube will not detect or act on a match.

Music permission and YouTube monetization are separate tests
YouTube requires commercial rights to all audio and visual elements in monetized content. It also says monetized videos must be original and non-repetitious, among other requirements. A license can establish permission to use a song, but it does not establish that a channel built around continuous lofi playback meets YouTube Partner Program eligibility or originality rules. Assess the whole channel format against YouTube’s current monetization policies; do not infer approval from a CC license alone.
Consider YouTube Audio Library tracks as a platform-specific option
YouTube says YPP members can monetize Audio Library music and that downloaded Audio Library music will not be claimed by a rights holder through Content ID. For tracks marked Creative Commons, include the required attribution in the description. This assurance applies to YouTube’s Audio Library as described by YouTube; do not extend it to unrelated “royalty-free” catalogs or assume that every outside library has the same rights or Content ID terms.

Keep the livestream running separately from clearing the music
Once the tracks are cleared, you still need a way to keep the YouTube stream running. StreamNeo is a cloud service for playing uploaded videos on YouTube: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It can keep the stream running with your computer off, but it does not grant music rights or guarantee monetization. See StreamNeo.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload your cleared recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. A cloud streaming service does not replace track-by-track licensing, attribution, Content ID preparation, or YouTube monetization eligibility. Start a StreamNeo free day.
