Yes, potentially—but running a 24/7 recorded education stream does not guarantee monetization. Your channel must qualify for the relevant YouTube Partner Program (YPP) features, pass YouTube’s channel review, follow monetization and copyright rules, and meet any feature-specific requirements. There is also a major practical caveat: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as archives, which can affect whether the stream remains available as a public video and whether its watch time counts toward YPP thresholds.
How a 24/7 recorded stream can earn money
YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as ways to monetize live streams. Which options are available depends on your channel’s eligibility, the relevant monetization features, and your location. For Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue, a channel must be in YPP and accept the Watch Page Monetization Module. YouTube’s live-stream monetization guide explains the available live options.
Enabling monetization does not ensure that ads will appear on every viewing or at every ad break. YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve; its systems consider viewer experience, creator earnings, and advertiser values. Mid-rolls can be automatic or manual, while pre-roll and display ads may also be available. Revenue therefore depends on actual ad delivery and viewer activity, not simply on keeping a stream online.
What eligibility threshold applies to Watch Page ads?
As shown in YouTube’s official feature guidance accessed October 3, 2026, the Watch Page ad threshold is 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the previous 365 days or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Meeting the numbers is not the same as approval: YouTube reviews the channel and applies other YPP requirements. Check the current status and requirements in YouTube Studio’s Earn tab.

YouTube’s expanded YPP has a lower entry threshold in eligible locations: 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the previous 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Those thresholds can unlock some fan-funding and Shopping features; they are not the Watch Page ad threshold. Availability varies by location and feature. Can repeated recorded lessons pass YouTube’s originality review?
Education is not a blanket exemption from channel monetization policies. YouTube expects monetized content to be original and authentic, rather than generic, mass-produced, or repetitive. Its policy says content “should be made for the enjoyment or education of viewers, rather than for the sole purpose of getting views.” It also says that when videos follow a similar pattern, their substance should be materially varied and deliver creative, educational, or other value. A continuously repeated loop of the same recorded material may create risk if the channel appears templated or offers little variation or value. That is a risk assessment, not a rule that every loop is prohibited: YouTube reviews a channel in context. Reviewers may consider the channel’s overall theme, most-viewed and newest videos, watch-time distribution, metadata, and About section. Make the educational purpose and your contribution clear, and assess the whole channel—not just the stream title or subject—before relying on monetization.
Do the stream’s watch hours count toward YPP?
Do not assume that every hour watched during a live broadcast will count. YouTube says public watch hours from live streams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD do not count toward YPP thresholds. For a continuous stream, whether it is retained and publicly available as an eligible video matters. YouTube’s archive guidance warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Read the current archive guidance before planning your broadcast schedule.

One continuous broadcast or shorter segments?
A single uninterrupted broadcast is simpler operationally, but it carries the documented archive risk once it exceeds 12 hours. YouTube says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours; it does not promise capture for longer streams. Shorter scheduled segments are a practical way to plan around that limit, but segmentation does not guarantee an archive, eligible watch hours, or monetization approval. Keep a local recording as a backup and verify YouTube’s current live setup and archive instructions.
Do you have the rights to everything in the stream?
Monetization-policy originality and copyright permission are separate checks. YouTube’s livestream terms require you to have the rights needed to exploit the live content, including applicable music rights. A lesson recording can still contain third-party material—such as music, images, clips, slides, or readings—that requires permission or another valid rights basis. Confirm that your rights cover broadcasting the material live and making any resulting archive available. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions set out the relevant obligations.

How to reduce avoidable monetization and archive problems
- Check eligibility in YouTube Studio. Review the Earn tab and confirm which YPP features are available to your channel and location. Treat the Watch Page ad threshold separately from expanded-YPP access to some fan-funding and Shopping features.
- Review the channel as a whole. Make the educational purpose, creator contribution, and meaningful value apparent across the channel. Avoid relying on a minimally changed loop as the channel’s sole evidence of originality.
- Clear rights before going live. Verify the rights for every element in the recording, including music and third-party media, and check that your permissions cover live transmission and any public VOD.
- Plan for archives under 12 hours. Use shorter broadcast segments if you need retained VODs, keep a local recording, and check YouTube’s current archive guidance. This reduces dependence on a stream longer than YouTube says may not be captured.
- Enable only the features you qualify for. For Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue, join YPP and accept its Watch Page Monetization Module. Review live ad options and remember that an enabled ad slot may not serve.
Keep a recorded YouTube stream running without leaving a computer on
For a do-it-yourself setup, use YouTube’s live-streaming controls with your chosen broadcast software or encoder, provide the stream key as directed in YouTube’s current setup instructions, and keep the encoder and connection running. Schedule segments that stay below YouTube’s 12-hour archive risk, and retain a local recording. The exact encoder settings depend on your chosen software and video; YouTube’s guidance should be used for current setup requirements.

A 24/7 recorded education stream can be monetized in principle, but the outcome is channel-specific. Eligibility thresholds do not guarantee YPP acceptance, educational subject matter alone does not establish originality, and rights must be cleared independently. Most importantly for continuous programming, a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived; plan around that limitation rather than assuming a full-day broadcast will become a retained, eligible public VOD.
