A 24/7 YouTube Live stream can play multiple prerecorded educational videos in sequence, provided an encoder or compatible streaming service sends that playlist to YouTube. YouTube documents both a hardware option and cloud-service examples, but does not describe a universal playlist scheduler built into YouTube Studio. Choose a solution that supports your intended playlist, looping, transitions, and recovery—and confirm you have the rights to every video and audio element.
How a continuous stream of recorded lessons works
An encoder takes the output of prerecorded media playback and sends it to YouTube Live. The playback source can be local equipment or a hosted cloud service, depending on the product. The key is that the encoder or service—not YouTube Studio alone—must support playing the recordings in sequence and delivering that output continuously.
YouTube’s encoder guide describes AJA HELO Plus optional PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media and streaming it directly to YouTube Live without a computer. The guide also names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. These are examples, not required products or endorsements. Check each provider’s current capabilities and limits before relying on it.
Choose a playback and streaming setup
Local hardware or computer
A local encoder or computer-based setup can send a playlist of recordings to YouTube, if its playback and encoding software supports the sequence and looping you need. You control the equipment, but the source and connection must remain available. Plan for power or network loss, and test how the encoder behaves if a file fails or playback ends.

Set up and test the YouTube Live workflow
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The account must also meet YouTube’s age requirement. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Confirm rights for every item. Make an inventory of recordings, excerpts, images, music, and other audio or visual elements in the playlist. Confirm you have permission for the live broadcast and any resulting archive in the territories where it will be available.
- Select an encoder or service that supports the workflow. Verify that it can play the recordings in sequence, loop or schedule them as intended, handle transitions, and recover from failures. YouTube’s documentation describes encoder-based streaming but does not prescribe a universal playlist format.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Configure the stream key and destination in the encoder or service according to its instructions. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Preview before going public. Check that the image, audio, and stream status appear as expected in the YouTube preview before making the broadcast public.
- Test the complete rotation and failure cases. Run through a transition between videos, the end of the list, a restart, a network interruption, and recovery after a source-file or encoder failure. YouTube recommends preparing for failover; these playlist-specific checks are practical safeguards rather than a YouTube-mandated test protocol.
- Monitor while live. Arrange who will respond to alerts and how the stream will be restarted. Check audio, video, and stream availability during operation.

YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that an uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will be saved as one complete video. If keeping a complete archive matters, verify YouTube’s current behavior and arrange a separate recording or archive plan.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The channel cannot start a live stream: Check verification, any live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and whether first-time activation has finished. Activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The playlist stops or repeats incorrectly: Confirm the encoder or service supports the playlist order, loop behavior, and end-of-list handling you configured. Test the full sequence before launch.
- The feed drops during a network or power interruption: Identify whether the failure is on the local source, network, encoder, or service side. Test failover and recovery, and make sure someone knows how to respond.
- The video is live but has no usable sound or picture: Inspect the preview and check the source files and encoder output. Monitor both audio and video rather than relying only on an “online” status.
- A recording or soundtrack raises a rights concern: Remove or replace the disputed material unless you can establish the necessary rights for the live broadcast and any archive.
- The stream is longer than the expected archive: Do not assume a 24-hour broadcast will become a single complete YouTube archive; the documented automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours.
